How do you mean worst?
The Alabama fans I met at the NCG last year, for the most part, couldn't have been nicer (yes, even before the game) - though maybe that sample is skewed by those who could afford to go? Other big-time school fans can be arrogant (ahem, Michigan, USC) but they generally seem to respect Notre Dame.
My biggest beef has always been with the chip-on-their-shoulder types from Purdue and BC. They're the ones who pick fights.
Also, living in St. Louis: Mizzou fans suck. They have no idea how much they don't know about college football. They'd all secretly rather be watching the Cardinals anyway.

A close second is any fan of an SEC school that touts their conference and haven't ever won squat.

LSU in the 2006 Sugar Bowl was the worst I experienced at ND. People were just cold-cocking ND fans on the way out of the game. Michigan was also a rough crowd, but I never saw things escalate like at the Superdome.

It does seem like those who have experienced LSU fans almost universally consider them the worst. I can honestly say I have never encountered any LSU fans (other than on the intersweb) that I can remember, so...

Lol the same thing happened in section 410 of Yankee Stadium at the Pinstripe Bowl... between two Irish fans of all people. There was one drunk dude who was trying to pump people up with "WE ARE ND" and "LET'S GO IRISH" chants, but nobody was feeling it. Eventually the other guy gets out of his seat and threw popcorn in his face, and things escalated from there. The drunk(er) guy ended up getting ejected for repeatedly standing on the platform where the camera man was.

I am sure the answer to my question depends on who you are exposed to, for me I am surrounded by PSU and Rutgers fans so obviously they annoy the heck out of me.

The Bama Fans just surprise me, they have had SO MUCH success over the last 5 years yet its never enough for them and you hear stories like this and you hear the madness like the death threats against their kicker or the lunatic with Toomers Trees.......it's just amazing and appalling at the same time. What do they honestly expect, to win the NC every year? I just scratch my head at them.

Bama for Football, Kentucky for Basketball. Clay Travis wrote some articles where he counted down the worst fans in the country. Bama, Kentucky, Notre Dame, Tennessee, West Virginia, Arkansas, and Ohio State were the college fan bases in his top 10, and he made some very good points on each.

This should be a fleeting condition, but Sparty fans have been insufferable for the past three days. You'd think they just won their fourth consecutive NC with the amount of 'tude spewing out of East Lansing. I mean, I get it. They are excited about a big win, and the promise of the future. If this goes on much longer, I may* find myself pining for the halcyon days of Wolverine arrogance. At least the delusions in Ann Arbor were grounded in a false sense of normalcy.

I guess the part that made me mad was when you see the guy she kicked turn around and he's smiling. That shit hurt I guarantee it. LSU (probably the lowest average IQ)
Bama
Kentucky (basketball fans are obnoxious and oblivious to Calipari's shenanigans)

Honestly, most of the B1G fans I know are at least informed about their teams and about college football in general. The "worst" fans have to be Miami, who can't even sell out conference games when they're undefeated.

I have heard horror stories about LSU fans but I've never encountered any except 1 and she's not a die hard so she's pretty chill about football.

Personally I find UGA fans to be the worst. They are the quintessential SEC school that hasn't won squat but pumps up the SEC as if that means anything. Everyday all I hear is "SEC! SEC! SEC!" from Georgia fans and they talk of "winning the National Championship" as if Carter wasn't still in office the last time they won a title.

I've met a number of Bama fans who weren't a-holes when it came to the Tide; we have a few around here. I have met only a couple of Buckeye fans who aren't shameless, defensive, blind homer delusional pains-in-the-ass when it comes to Ohio State. Many of the latter category are relatives and close friends who I love and would otherwise trust my life to.

In terms of:

attitude: Georgia, Georgia, OH Lord Georgia (Some of the cockiest fans I've met and I'm not sure why? They haven't won sh*t in decades)

loyalty: Miami and USC (In their hay-day these teams would sell out. Nowadays, they'd be lucky to fill half of their stadiums.)

Seems like most of us are on the same page in terms of criteria. Common things I'm seeing include:

Ignorance about college football in general
Ignorance about their own team
Ignorance about team history
Obnoxiousness
Treatment of other fans
Cockiness (especially in relation to success)
Blind conference loyalty
Lack of general intelligence
Lack of support when team is bad

Am I missing anything?
