I think somebody probably has too much time and/or money on his hands to be "in" to these things. Three quick questions, did you take your ascot and smoking jacket off to do either one of these things? Were these things done before or after your manicure? What the fuck is a "Thayer's rose witchazel?"

I usually drink Folgers (or 8 O'Clock, when I'm feeling randy)...already ground, in a coffee pot that I'm not even sure of the brand. I don't really shave (I'm usually bearded), but when I do, I like this fabulous razor called a Gillette Sensor Excel, with Gillette shaving gel.

Everybody stay tuned though, I will be rating handkerchiefs and driving gloves later this week.

Haha, fabulous post. And Folgers and Gillette are my "go to" brands also. The bolded sounds like something I found in Skyrim.

Bunch of heathens in here. Drinking swill coffee while hoping the TP they have stuck to their cut up face stays on.

Go to the Art of Shaving store in your mall and pick up a basic kit. You wont shave with a regular razor again.

Folgers... pfft...

Filarmonica #14 EPBD straight razor (Spanish), Rooney Finest badger brush, Martin de Candre soap, Thayer's rose witchazel, alum and a splash of Floris Santal aftershave. This is one of the sharpest and smoothest razors in my rotation and I plan to have it entombed with me when the time comes.

For a minute I thought you were referencing the literary work "Rose Wiitchazel" by the great english writer "Thayer".

Hmmmm

Well since shaving was mentioned......has anyone joined the dollar shave club? I've heard good things so far and razor prices are getting friggin ridiculous. Every time I grab 24 bucks worth of Gillette cartridges off the peg hook at the store I feel like I'm paying the entire stadium sponsorship for the patriots.

Worth every penny. Been doing it for a while.

Seriously Bob. Try out a straight razor kit. It's not complicated and you'll get a better shave. You'll even smell good for the lady. When I switched, I thought it would take longer and be a p.i.m.a, but it's actually just as simple as a disposeable shave. But you'll bleed less.

It is also cheaper than buying cartridges, maybe even cheaper than "dollar shave club" and you'll get a better shave than both.

Well it's going to be a high of 41 degrees today and my heat pump sucks at temperatures lower than 50 degrees so I am enjoying a cup of Folgers brewed in a knockoff French press, a Sunbeam space heater, and all of my Columbia gear which are all intended to keep me warm today.

I had to wear a coat today. That makes me sad. Then I looked at the main page of Yahoo and saw the temps up north - all is good.

I don't use shaving cream anymore. When I travelled, I tried to carry as little as I could, and I discovered using the hotel conditioner worked great as shaving cream(I shave head and face in the shower) so I have completely stopped with the shaving cream.

Razor cartridges are crazy expensive though. I do the Costco thing and buy in bulk.

The only time I've been shaved with straight razors was in barber shops. It is a great shave, but every time they pull that thing out, I can't help thinking I'm about to be assassinated. I guess I could give it a try. I have a goatee, is it harder to be accurate with for trimming edges or shaping?

I occasionally keep a beard, when the wife lets me, and I find a straight razor easier to shape with. The edge is, well.. the edge. Where the multiple blades on a cartridge are surrounded by plastic and are harder to shape with.

As far as the fear... don't let your wife shave you after an argument. ha.

For realz though.. it's like the old saying, "a sharp knife is a safe knife".

If anyone is looking for a good k-cup, try San Francisco Bay Coffee. They have three really good blends (Breakfast, Rainforest, and Fog Chaser). I'm not a big greenie or health nut but the coffee is all organic and is by far the best cup I've had out of the Keurig. Plus, they're only $30 for an 80-count box (Amazon Prime eligible), and any time you can find k-cups under $0.50 per box, you're doing all right.

I use a Kuerig K-cup machine. I saw that at Menards, but was leery of it since it's a hardware store selling it. The price for a 12 pack was $5.50 so I may give it a try.

Sorry, Tenacious, but you opened a door (perhaps) better left closed. It's now officially the off season and no holds are barred.

Yep, clearly misread the room......some of the other threads are starting to make sense now though.....lesson learned.

Yeah I had the same reaction the first time I saw it at BJs (which is like Costco).

Uh... What?

Is that a drug thing? Even Google seems stumped.

Maybe it's oolan-cha. I am unsure of the spelling. It was just a way Japanese people referred to oolong tea. Drug thing? Jump to conclusions mat?

Making an assumption here since you're part Greek, but is your beard real thick? I ask because my beard is thicker than shit. That's the main reason I usually have a beard. I HATE SHAVING! And since I'm at a point in my life where I don't have to shave every day, I choose not to. Plus, the acceptance rate of beards has not been this socially acceptable since probably the 19th century, so I gotta ride the trend while I can.

Is it easier/better shaving with a straight blade? Disregard this post if your beard isn't thick. Or if your beard, when kept, resembles that of a member of Color Me Bad.

I don't have a problem with the thread. The ribbing you were getting was in good fun. The thing that rubbed me the wrong way was:

I don't have the thickest beard on the planet, but find that the heavier grind razors do a good job of plowing through stubble.

Edit: by heavy, I mean something in the 1/4 hollow to wedge range.

Not at all. 2013 was a good year for French Vanilla K-cups. The aroma of the bouquet is reminiscent of a warm summer evening through the forests of Madagascar.
