As a Bears fan, this is not a good deal. Cutler has not proven himself to be a winner. We just signed a talented but hit or miss QB to a 7 yr deal. Just dumb

So they're using the Al Davis business model now huh? Nice. Time to give Robbie Gould (sp?) a raise to make him the highest paid K.

Does this mean he will have more appearances on "The League"?

As a Bears fan, I'm happy with it. That could change depending on how much guaranteed money he is getting of course.

Bears management has done nothing but screw lately.

Cutler openly said that he was fine with taking a franchise tag.

Just because he's your best option doesn't mean you have to throw a 7 year deal at him.

I will withhold judgment until the terms are revealed. The 7 years is only to spread the cap hit in the NFL so that doesn't mean much.

Unfortunately, Emery fired a head coach on the heels of a 10 win season so anything that smells of rebuilding (accepting poor performance in the short term) will get him skewered by the press. This will be magniied by the fact that Lovie is going to be back in the NFC.

I agree with your logic here, but it's the whole deal that sucks. I don't think there is necessarily anyone better, but do you agree with a 7 yr deal?

I feel your pain, Bears fans. I too understand the plight of idiotic ownership.

"Dat Cuhtlar guy is sucks. I wanted MacCow back not Cuhtlar. Stuhpid ownarship"

In all seriousness, as a Bears fan, I'm happy to see Cutler back, but not a fan of the length.

Also must be said that Cutler under Trestman>>>Cutler under Lovie.

This is the NFL. Contract length is more about the cap hit than the actual length of the deal.

This will be good for the Bears offense. It's solidified now and Cutler will have the chance to play with the same coordinator for more than about 15 minutes. The Bears offense this year was maybe the best one I've ever seen. Cutler can't cover Randall Cobb.

On to the defense, which got old fast this year.

How much is guaranteed tho? Its easy to forget that NFL contracts are much different than contracts in other sports. I would not be surprised to see only a few years of guaranteed $$

Very, very true. If it's only two or three years guaranteed, then this is a good move. I haven't seen the fine print at all.

Yeah, now they need to figure out what to do with Melton an Peppers. I think both will be back next season but those costs need to be managed.

Absolutely need Melton back. It's the NFL, and injuries can't be an excuse. But the best player at each level (Melton on the DL, Briggs at LB, and Tilman at CB) were all injured for long stretches. Obviously, two of them are getting old and that might just be their MO from this point forward. But it killed us in a couple of close games.

Will be interesting.

Being reported that $54 million is guaranteed through the first 3 years. If true, then the Bears are on the hook for $18 million per season to him through 2016, or about 15% of their salary cap.

And people are quick to ridicule the Lions and Browns front offices?

They should've rented him for one more year under the franchise tag, if they were going to spend that cash.

Wow. I've always liked Cutler as a player and felt that he got a bad rap just because he seems a little standoffish at times, but that is crazy money for a guy who has never really proven anything. Good athlete, good QB, but I don't see how he's worth that kind of money.
