It goes without saying that I freaking love Warrior.

To be honest, I love Under Armour gear too... far more than Nike. They make great stuff. I just don't know how I feel about them doing our Shamrock Series jerseys, etc.
Ugh I hate the Under Armour football stuff. I think it looks tacky as hell. Nike (when making uniforms for anyone other than Oregon) have such clean and classic looks.

Nike took these busy and tacky Vikings uniforms:

And cleaned them up so much:

In the Division III championship NW Missouri is wearing FAMILY instead of their names. I like that.

Just sitting here looking at this game on ESPN and thinking how in the hell does New Mexico have a better looking field than ND? Unacceptable.

Colorado State's UnderArmour green and gold are both ugly.

Using that logic, the Chicago Bears should really be embarrassed. You can't use "better" when what you really mean is "cleaner." Cleaner doesn't equal better for some people.

Anyway, point is that ND's field is f'n horrible and is unacceptable for a university of its stature.

The high school that I work closely with has 700 kids. It's field is nicer than ND's. It's unbeleiveable. ND and Soldier Field have 2 of the worst turf. Up there with Wembley.

This was already mentioned basically on the last page, but that decision on the field surface could come soon next year.

I don't get why everyone is talking about strictly the aesthetics of the uniform rather than the quality. There's only so many ways you can make a solid navy/solid white jersey and solid gold pants, and I'm confident that the designers at both Nike and Under Armour are competent enough to do so. Quality is the real issue to me. I've played in both Under Armour and Nike and here are my thoughts:

  1. Quality of the jerseys and pants themselves is pretty comparable, with maybe a slight edge to Nike based on its material being a little tougher (less susceptible to wear and tear problems)
  2. Main difference between the companies was in the quality of the "other stuff" (cleats, gloves, socks, visors, etc.)
  3. Nike was of better quality than UA in nearly everything in that category-better gloves, better socks, WAY better shoes
  4. I went through 3 pairs of UA cleats in my first season wearing them, the first of which didn't even make it out of summer camp before literally falling apart at the seams
  5. Only thing UA was better than Nike in in terms of quality was UA's bread and butter- the stuff you wear under your equipment like compression shorts and long sleeve shirts

Moral of the story, I think Nike is a better choice.

The trustees will meet Jan. 27-31 in Rome, Italy.
The school announced on May 2 it was studying stadium expansion and renovation, and originally the hope was to get a go-ahead in October. The most noticeable football change would be the addition of premium seating that would push the capacity of the stadium from its current 80,795 to an estimated 84,000.

Only at Notre Dame would trustees meet in Rome to consider Fighting Irish football revisions. Pope Francis will also be in attendance.

After being at the Pinstripe Bowl, I can say that I think I've been converted... on the video board. I'm still firmly anti-turf but having the video board made TV timeouts much more bearable. As long as we don't do stupid sh*t like the "subway race presented by Subway," I'm on board.

You shut your mouth Sox fan. The Subway race is a Yankees staple.

Really? You were at the bowl, and the horrible field conditions didn't change your mind about turf?

Please explain "anti-turf" because I don't get why anyone wouldn't want the surface to be best for the players.

Like I said, if we go with turf let's put a lid on the stadium so we can have absolute perfect conditions. That way the wind won't slow us down and the sun won't get in the receivers eyes.

It's not like every grass field is in the poor condition of Yankee Stadium. There are some really nice grass fields out there.

If his point is turf is in the name of player safety, I don't get your comparison to the inconveniences of wind and sun at all.

That's completely different.

you lay a field what a few weeks before a game, its always going to be total crap to play on. this always happens with soccer fields here after they relay them after concerts or big non soccer events. Problem then is all you can do is relay but there isnt enough time for the turf to bed in because of ongoing fixtures.

I've never seen Notre Dame Stadium play as poorly as Yankee Stadium did this Saturday, especially on a 50-degree dry day. If ND home games looked like the Pinstripe Bowl, I might have a different opinion.

I don't accept the premise that turf is necessarily "best for the players." I'm very much "best for the players," but I'm not convinced that artificial turf is it.

This. The "best for the players" and "perfect conditions" arguments can be taken to the extreme so the line has to be drawn somewhere. Otherwise we'd be playing every game in a dome with no fans.

This. Swarbrick said they're either going artificial or digging deep to install new drainage and irrigation systems. People act like "100% artificial" and "shitty natural" are the only two options. They're not.

This too.

EDIT: Obviously, the infield was newly-laid turf at the Pinstripe Bowl (which was where the worst of the slip-and-fall incidents happened), but was the outfield section the permanent Yankee grass or was that newly laid for the game as well?
