I doubt that would even help us get him. I would be REALLY surprised if he chose us.

Oh I'd agree. He looks bound for Stanford, or maybe Texas. But he seems like a serious young man who might respond well to serious effort, as opposed to mailbombs. That's all.

And we've all seen the song and dance by Saban before about him not going anywhere. Until he actually tells Texas no, it's always still possible.

Personally, I won't believe it until a new Texas coach is announced and it isn't Saban

I've heard from a HS coach in Texas that word is Thomas may not gain admissions to Stanford.

"I also usually suspect admissions is the key factor for non-early commits, but I don't think that's the case here. In this article, he says he has a 4.5 out of 5.0 GPA. He's probably torn between us, Alabama, and staying home. The early 247 predictions had him going to Texas, but the more recent predictions point towards us. Mack Brown's troubles definitely work in our favor. I think they just fired their AD, and the fans are hoping Mack gets kicked upstairs. Maybe Thomas is waiting out the situation."

Patterson is still there. He has ties to the governor. Read the article on the front page of si.com if you haven't. Pretty enlightening.

The Jacob Logan Run for 21 will take place on December 21st in Coppell, Texas. Cam, and his brother Gavin, will be there, along with a much sought after defensive line recruit. If I were the Notre Dame defensive/ recruiting coordinator, I would be participating in this event. And bringing along the head ball coach might not be a bad idea.
This event, to honor his friend Jacob Logan, is very important to Solomon, and Notre Dame support will go a long way in Coppell, Texas. Hopefully, Cam McDaniel's recruitment was the start of a strong relationship with the Coppell program.

The poster PAND is quoting was talking about Patterson's predecessor, DeLoss Dodds. The quote comes from a Stanford board in September, when Dodds's removal was still news.

Coaches cannot be there. That is dead period and it would very obvious why they are there.

Kurelic at Bucknuts is being told that it won't affect Thomas's recruitment that Mike Sanford, the Stanford assistant who was recruiting Thomas, has been hired as the OC at Boise State. Thomas is interested in Stanford for the football/education balance and not so much the relationships with coaches. Now, if Shaw leaves, that will change things, but the assistants won't. FWIW, Kurelic thinks OSU is running a close second to Stanford.

Prob not worth bumping the thread but maybe also of note: Buckeye posters really want Urbie to make a run at Quenton Nelson, but the Bucknuts staff all say that Nelson is solid to ND.

They've been making a run at Nelson. For a whole year. They're just failing.

Also, Kurelic saying Ohio State a "close second" probably means they're deep in a pack of schools trailing Stanford.

Everyone keeps saying that he is interested in Stanford because they play great football and have great academics. If that's the case, I just don't get why we aren't getting a closer look from him.

Ohio State has its pluses and minuses but the bottom line is that it's just not a place where football players tend to get a great education, based on typical majors and GSR. He may be like Anzalone and just figure that it doesn't matter what the other players do because he is just a better student than they are. That kind of thinking is all too prevalent.

I agree and I don't get it. He's said all the right things including when it comes to football he'd prefer to play 3-4 DE yet we still haven't gotten anywhere. I really really like the defensive players we're bringing in but I think Thomas could start day 1 if Tuitt were to leave.

I think they have been a lot of assumptions during his recruitment. It seems to me that he doesn't share much of what is going on with him and some people are just making stuff up.

My brother in law is a trainer for am ex buckeye that was in the nfl util a nasty injury. While at osu, the coaches and "academic counslers" pushed into classes to keep him eligible and with no regard as to what he wanted in his education. Now that he is in a spot that requires him to use his mind instead of body, he is now regretting his time at osu. This happened during the jt era.

Yep. The thing is, I think kids like Thomas or Alex Anzalone and Jordan Sherit last cycle or other high achieving kids who end up at football factories look at themselves and say, "hey, school has never been hard for me before; why would it be hard in college? Yeah, these other idiots will struggle, but I'll pull a 4.0 with minimal effort like always." But they don't understand what kind of time pressure they'll be under as college students and D-I football players. They'll likely need help of one kind or another ... only to find that either they can't get the help they need or the people helping them don't actually have their best academic interests at heart. THIS IS WHY YOU GO TO ND or another high-GSR school (but mostly ND).
