No. Meyer's got a better shot of winning titles at Ohio State, I'd think. And they'll pay him as much as Texas would. Will be interesting to see who Texas goes after though.

No word yet on whether Kiffin has advised Saban to deflate footballs, run swinging gate plays or change jersey numbers to confuse opponents.

Kiffin's Tennessee squad played Alabama in 2009, in one of those "they set football back 50 years" type of contests -- the Tide won, 12-10, in a game that had five field goals and no touchdowns until the final two minutes. One can only guess what kind of offensive wizardry Kiffin can provide to the Tide, whom F/+ has as the 12th-best offense in the land.

Alabama offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier is rumored to be a hot coaching candidate, and Kiffin made his name as an offensive coordinator with USC. Could the Kiff be returning to coordinating duties with the Tide? Given his history of falling upward, never rule anything out.

Never been an issue with Lane's ability to be an OC... HC is a whole other story. Plus, he is an A+ recruiter. If anybody can keep Boy Wonder in check, it would be Nick. But, I hope Nuss sticks around. He has been great for the Tide's program.

I just hate Lane on so many levels and this would not do anything to lessen it. Probably make it worse, because then he would be a winner, and that.... I cannot abide

that is what is so perplexing to me....he is the offensive genius when he was an OC however he was doing the play calling at USC and they were terrible...clay helton takes back over when ed o is hc and they were day and night...im sure other factors were there..but makes u wonder...is he really a great offensive mind or was he just smoke and mirrors because he had A+ talent w/ bush, white,qb play, wr's out the ying yang etc

Could be he is like his dad and defense. What worked yesterday doesn't always work today. But being HC and calling plays has to take away from his time to prepare a solid offensive game plan IMO. If nothing else, let him be a position coach but have him recruit as much as possible. He is a great recruiter for whatever reason.

You know what is odd to me with all this madness??? Fisher and Briles (and others) have recently signed extensions but are considered leading candidates for the Texas job if you believe what you read. Yet, after a year plus of smoke and ‘insider’ backed rumors about Saban, when Texas did not have an opening mind you, suddenly now that the job is open he seems off the table because he signed an extension?? I realize the money is different but it just seems odd to me. You have to think UT goes all in with some kind of offer to at least be able to say to their alumni base that they tried. I have been on the Saban is staying boat for a while before he even signed, so don't get me wrong here, but I still don't see how this story just goes away now... not after all this... I mean it just dies a day before the job finally opens?? lol

Keep in mind that Saban does not have a buyout. The story may not be dead just yet.

Maybe. But if Nuss gets a HC job, Saban will need to bring someone in to fill that void. Nuss has been great at getting top offensive talent to play his system. Not saying Lane is the answer or Nuss is leaving but why not try to get in first if possible? Someone will hire Boy Wonder at some point.

Seriously?? How does THAt happen??

If this is true then there is no freaking way possible UT dosn't at least do their end... I have family ties to Austin, their base was pretty set... if they hire anyone else without so much as TRYING... this story is not dead IMO... doesn't mean anything will actually happen beyond an offer... but yeah.

I would bet the house Jimmy Sexton has been talking to UT since the Brown announcement. Will it go anywhere? Probably not. But one has to think the calls are being made.

Oh surely. I've gone back and forth on this one, probably argued both sides on here but what I think I've settled on is that there's no way Saban takes the Texas job, simply because he's not capable of being nice on a regular basis to the number of people (read: idiots with large pocketbooks) it would require. At this point I personally don't think money can be a big enough factor to get him to leave, so I don't think it happens. 5 million to 10 million is a lot different than 7 million to 10 million IMO.

Mike Gundy.

That is my prediction.

Whoa. That is amazing.

I'm with ACamp, I do not understand how all the Saban chatter just stopped after he signed the extension. EVERY coach that is being mentioned is under a contract. What makes Saban different(well, no buyout makes him different)?

Did he sign the contract just so the media would leave him alone and he could negotiate with Texas in peace?

Really TTT - No buyout? unbelievable.

Must have been the only way Saban agrees to sign... which, if that were the case would only fuel the fire of the rumors one would think... I can't imagine a situation where Bama doesn't want a buyout.

Like I said, it's just strange how it all went away... but strange things do happen I guess.

I don't think Saban has had a buyout clause since 2009. Could be wrong but the general consensus is if he were to leave it would take ... say $100 million so what's another $3-4 million if that's the case.

It's an interesting point, but if Texas doesn't announce a coach soon, the Saban rumors may heat up.

I still scratch my head when I read through all these articles on the coaching search... (My family drives me to follow most things UT/OU, so I’m really interested in this one…)… Just about every article has a line like this in the opening paragraph: “Saban is off the board, he just signed an extension”… Okay, fine,… then you go down the ‘valid list’ of candidates, and easily half of them have also just recently signed extensions… lol… Am I just really missing something here???

Probably the idea that anyone other than Saban would not consider the TX job, even if they had inked and extension. Going from AL to TX would be a lateral move for Saban, but it would be a MAJOR upgrade for someone like Sumlin, Malzahn, et al.
