regardless if Kelly named him stater or not, the staff trusts him. that's about 85% of being a stater imo. a coach will start a kid they trust over the most athletic/big play/sporadic kid almost everyday of the week.

Elijah has already been in big games, moments, and atmospheres.

he is going to be slaughter revamped, imo.

Yeah didn't mean that as a statement more of a question. Thus the question mark. It what it sounded like Kelly was saying, but it wasn't direct, so I wasn't sure. Sorry for the mixed signals. Either way, Congrats Elijah for killin' it.

He was pretty impressive last year. I expect bigger things from him this year.

I know it's neither here or there but the fact that 3 true freshman were in the national title game at one time on defense is pretty damn impressive! Day ES and Russell. Crazy upside for the future. Oh and now add mad max smith and EV. I'm getting to excited and it's not even 8am yet

I am most excited to see what Shumate will bring to the D this year especially if he holds down the starting spot. He helped us out tremendously last year but now he should really be a force at the back end!

That's pretty tough punishment on the rest of the team, it that's all it was.

Holtz put his leading rusher, Brooks, and leading receiver, Watters, on a plane for South Bend the morning of the USC game ... for showing up late to the team dinner.

Watters was also the punt returner and had returned two kicks for TDs that season.

While Holtz was head coach at Arkansas he sent his 3 top offensive players home for breaking curfew before the Cotton Bowl game against OU.

In both situations his undermanned team dominated the other team.

Discipline?

Or motivation?

Paging max redfield...

Also, Per II Hardy's father is the source for missing a team meeting being the reasons for the suspension.

Definitely a good point - Lou was an excellent motivator and a known stickler for discipline. I personally believe they got in trouble for something else and it's the usual "violation of team rules" excuse, but considering that the staff were much more picky during BYU week about the locker room being clean, lockers being organized, etc., Kelly might be trying to do the same thing. It's kind of a win-win. If we lose to Stanford, it's hardly an unexpected outcome considering our lack of depth at multiple positions, and the expectation of discipline is simultaneously bolstered. If we win, we win haha.

Two players show up late for a team meeting leading up to the toughest game of the year. To me, if I was the coach, it shows that they may not care about the importance of the game. Fine. They don't care, then I don't care. Stay home, boys.

We don't know if there was other warnings or what not.

But, this is bad--if injury or what not. Now we are stuck with Farley and his horrible angles and bad tackling.

It was already hard to beat Stanford, it just got harder.

You've never been late to something important?

If it is the first time I think it is a little harsh. However like others have said we don't know if this is the first time or what else they might have done to be warned before.

This sucks, it's not like we have some 5-star player who could just suddenly appear off the bench in a big game in his home state and make us forget about Shumate and Farley...

Now we are stuck with Farley and his horrible angles and bad tackling.

It was already hard to beat Stanford, it just got harder.

It worked last year!

Why were they late? To me, it shows a lack of focus and they should stay home. This is an important game. If anyone was late for a baseball meeting at ND under Pat Murphy, we were done for several months. Take some pride in being early and prepared. Zero sympathy from this guy!

I re-watched his game against Oklahoma. I did not realized until now how i hate the way he is used on the field. He is almost always the last man (you can not even watch him on the screen) and plays with a 15-20 yard cushion behind the LOS. It's curious because he has not much range and is not explosive in his reactions.

Do you guys think he could do more here? Call me crazy but i think Jaylon, in his position, he would tackle him

I would love to see him around the LOS as an Eric Berry type of safety, let him be aggresive and hit fellas! I think he is already a decent, maybe good safety as an centerfielder but i think he would be better playing in the box and not as a deep safety where he has too much responsibility covering the entire backfield (C1) or still covering a lot of field (C2).
