Crazy how off the radar he was until recently. Two traditional power programs fighting over the 247Composite #2080 recruit in the country.

If we add another cat in Williams I'm not sure there's room for another one. Have to get Morgan and/or Sykes at ILB.

Regardless of what is being said, Williams is a completely different prospect than Hill. The only prospect similar to Hill is Yeargin.

Explain. You want to move Hill inside?

Nah, not really what I'm getting at. What I'm saying is just because someone reports that they're being recruited for "CAT" doesn't mean that they're all playing the same position nor that they all project long term for the same roles. We have literally 6 guys -- Bonner, Yeargin, Blankenship, Williams, Hill, Trumbetti -- who have reported being recruited for "CAT" during the process. Obviously, we wouldn't be recruiting 6 people for 1 identical role.

How guys are used within the defense really moves away from strictly defined roles for DL/OLBs. Guys get moved all over the place like puzzle pieces. One play Okwara is in a two point stance playing true OLB off the line of scrimmage, the next he is lined up in a NG spot on a passing down and swatting a Taylor Kelly pass. Guys get plugged in wherever their skills warrant, and depending on the situation their uses can be quite variable.

So while the coaches might simplify where they're being recruited for to "CAT" when talking to them and showing them how they might be used, their intended uses due to their skills are likely different... and as we all know, the staff is apt to move "big skill" guys wherever they best fit after they get them in camp.

I get what you're saying in terms of being recruited for the "same" position in the sense of terminology, but in practicality how they will be used and fit in to the team will probably be starkly different. Talking to different people, it really doesn't seem like the staff views Hill and Williams as similar prospects, and while there is overlap in some of their traits (i.e. both can line up as an OLB and get after the passer) there are more traits where they don't overlap, and accordingly they will fill different needs/roles. And since they fill different needs/roles I wouldn't say it's the "same" position and I don't think one can really take the other's spot.

Agree 100%.^^^^^^^

Riddle me this though... Why was Ishaq covering receivers on 3rd downs in the 2nd half against BYU? It looked like he was playing a dime or nickle lol.

We only offered him a week ago, and we may fill up at this spot before he visits! The Texas interest seems pretty understandable.

interesting thing is that texas is usually filled up by now and only is recruiting "elite" national prospects at this point.

That model largely failed, though. They were evaluating Texas kids too quickly and were missing on all the "late" bloomers- i.e., the kids that developed after their Sophomore years.

Posted 26 mins. ago from Horns247, “If I got the offer from there, it would probably make me make my decision a lot sooner,” Hill said. “If they offered, they would be my favorite, there’s no doubt about it. As of right now Notre Dame is my top school, but if Texas offers me that all changes.” This is Kolin Hill speaking about what an offer from Texas would do to his recruitment. Also calls them "America's Team". He's actually visiting for a practice today and coming back for the game on Thursday. This seems to be a done deal.

He also told rivals that if he was offered from Texas today a commitment on the spot is "definitely" a possibility.

Maybe in Texas. Notre Dame has more national appeal if you ask me. Then again, Texas does have some moxie.

He lives an hour from Austin, not too hard to understand why UT would be his choice. Still, stay after him, never know with acoaching change looming for the Horns.

Doesn't look to good here, but as long as they don't offer we are good. I guess that is being optimistic.

I liked Williams's film better, and I seriously doubt we would have taken both anyways.

Either way, kudos for him for coming out and saying it. This way ND can't be caught with its pants down.

What if they don't? I don't think that's a good situation either. Would we want to take a commitment from a kid that clearly stated that he would go to Texas if they offered? What if Texas had an extra spot in the 11th hour and offered him at the last minute? Would he bail on us on NSD?

It's a tough situation, imo.

Huge bummer. Would be awesome if Texas just didn't offer him when he went to visit, but it seems like a foregone conclusion that they will.

Makes keeping Yeargin far more important than if Hill was an option.

Indeed it is. I guess with ND purposively over signing this cycle, loosing him late in the cycle wouldn't be as bad if we have a bunch of other guys in fold of similar skill sets.
It's the name of the game. It's how recruiting is conducted now a days. It's not very ethical, but what can you do.

I do applaud his honesty. Like already posted, at least we know what we're up against. I guess by the weekend we'll know if UT is going to offer.
