I really think unless USC brings in a home run (and they could easily do this) I think he is ours. I think he knows we are his best option, I just dont know if his heart is ready for him to leave Southern California

i.e. after they've hired a new coach

Give it up fellas, he's not coming here. ACamp can pack his bags and drive him to SC.

Sources close to the situation feel that distance could play a factor in his recruitment. Smith is the second oldest of seven children and is part of a very close knit extended Polynesian family. Smith has a cheering section of family members that runs about 50 people deep at his games. It's also worth noting that USC is his dream school and sources on the West Coast feel it would take the new USC staff messing things up with Smith to not have him staying home.

A major reason why Damien and JuJu took official visits to Alabama two weeks ago was because Viane was committed there and they wanted to experience it together. JuJu returned home with an Alabama towel and wore it during his game last week, so it will be interesting to find out how much Viane's decommitment means for both him and Damien moving forward. Again, I like USC's chances here. He canceled a trip to Michigan and scheduled one to USC for the same weekend Viane will be there.

Per BGI, The Irish are in his top 2 with USC. Will likely make a decision come signing day between those 2 schools. They like ND's chances. A major role will be who will be USC next head coach.

Gut feeling if it Orgeron or an absolute home run who sells USC then it will be USC.

If it is Del Rio, or a bland hire, then ND

Its all about who they hire. It seems like they are leaning towards Del Rio and if that is the case, I really think we land Smith

As a ND fan I would be good with a JDR hire for USC. But, I would think that a defensive recruit would listen long and hard to a head coach that is known for his defenses in the NFL. With the pipeline he has and the connections to the league he has, that would be pretty difficult to just walk away from.

I hope you are right, I am just not as confident as you are.

I am not confident he will end up at ND but I think there is at least a 50% chance that he will end up here. JUJU trusts the staff, plus it is a lot of effort to recruit just getting onto campus particularly if the player is not already committed.

Like others have stated The staff and university has put our selves in a good position for him. That's all we as fans can ask for right?

Yeah. Kid grew up a USC fan, lives down the road. He's their's to lose. If they lose him, there's a whole bunch of places he could go, but we're at the top of the list. That's not bad.

That's the toughest hurdle IMO. A bad hire for HC could do the trick. Orgeron won't be getting the job.

Interested to hear of his reaction. On one hand Sark and company are good recruiters but on the other hand I was thinking most USC fans aren't liking this hire and his parents are big SC fans so who knows

You don't commit to a coach. USC will always recruit well. I don't know where Wilfong and Loy feel so confident.

I think there optimism is waning as USC has picked up steam but he did tell them that Religion on campus and academics were the two most important factors in his recruitment and if thats true, we seemed like the obvious choice.

I get the feeling he may have been waiting for any reason to go to SC...

USC will lose as many recruits with Coach O leaving as they will gain with Sark coming in IMO

That quote doesn't do much for me.

Without context it's impossible to know, but just reading the language of the quote it seems like the predictable thing to say. He doesn't seem ecstatic about it, and he's not saying it's a deal breaker for USC.
