Then his ranked right where he should be. Special and great players are generally, 4 and 5 stars.

Because the recruiting services are paragons of objectivity?

He's 3 stars. Right where he should be.

He's a 4:s: on 247 now. Though that's probably just because he verballed to ND, right?

Not that people aren't happy for the kid, but let's stop with this

"guys!! he's truly better than every single recruiting service says...because I've watched the same game tape and come to a different conclusion. Oh, and he's a nice kid"

I really hope he proves them all wrong and outperforms his rankings...but I'll wait to call him a "breakout" until he, you know, actually breaks out.

Who said that? Link me to a post. This is just another bullsh!t strawman that you setup to knock down every time we offer a 3:s: recruit. There's no chorus of Pollyannas here that claims every one of our 3:s:s is a "sleeper" or a "diamond in the rough".

We get it. You're only happy with 4 and 5:s: recruits. Thanks for your insight, Pat.

Right. Tranquill is a project, plain and simple. I think everyone realizes that he is hardly a fully-fledged ILB right now. However, his athleticism gives him a lot of upside, and some people are excited about that. I don't see anything wrong with that.

Like kuehnja said the other day, the reaction to the reaction is sometimes worse than the original reaction around here.

This reminds me of that time we talked about football in a recruit's thread.

I'm just thrilled whenever a high character individual decides he wants to attend the school and play for the football program I've been a lifelong fan of. I have a good feeling about Drue and his future at ND. I really like his potential as a player and more importantly as a great citizen and teammate. Congratulations on your choice young man, I look forward to seeing you play.

Rivals article on where the D-1 players come from.

Indiana does not do so well however you want to cut it.

RivalsHigh - Talent pool: Where the DI signees come from

**Edit - I went back to football!

There will be more Division 1 talent coming out of three Miami high schools - Booker T(Overtown), Northwestern(Liberty City) and Miami Central(Little River) than the entire state of Indiana! The Overtown Rattlers, a Pop Warner youth program, has more potential Division 1 difference makers than the entire state of Indiana!

It was in reference to "Plenty here think he's better than the rankings indicate"...which is ludicrous given how little we know about a 3 star guy outta IN. Seriously. What the hell do any of YOU know about this kid that Rivals, ESPN, or any of the other ones know? One min he's a Purdue commit...the next he's "a 3 star that really plays better than his ranking". LOL. LOL.

You're ****ing right I am. This is ND. Not Purdue.

2013 - 8 out of 25
2012 - 9 out of 26
2011 - 5 out of 23
2010 - 10 out of 26
2009 - 9 out of 28

41 out of 128 or 32% of their recruits are 3 stars or lower.

(These numbers are based off of Rivals rankings)

That is a lot of 3 stars considering the dominance that program has exhibited.

They do have the luxury of over signing considering in a 4 year period they signed 100 recruits, which doesn't include any 5th year players they may have.

Find that publication. I call bullshit.

I wonder what the criteria was? That seems way out there.

There is so many good ones down here in TX (Dallas is really good) and CA...

I mean, could they be in the top 10 or even sneak into top 5? Sure. And it's all subjective. Even is some blogger put them up there, I still don't put them above a city like Dallas, Chicago, Houston, or even Atlanta.

But yeah, I'd like to see the criteria.

Every major city in CA, FL, TX, and GA would come to mind before Indianapolis.

Still doesn't make sense. All of these cities produce way more D1 talent than Indy.

- LA
- Chicago
- Miami
- Sherman Oaks
- Baton Rouge
- Dallas
- Houston
- New Orleans
- Jacksonville
- Youngstown, OH
- Honolulu

I have no idea how Indy could be put in the same room with those cities. Especially if it were based per capita.

Not making it up gentlemen. This was back in late July or early August as HS football was starting practice. I heard on the radio that a publication had Indy ranked the second best for 2013. I wasn't paying particular attention until I heard Indy and it caught my attention, they never repeated the publication once I started listening closely. Then one of the sports radio shows mentioned it in the afternoon. They never said what the criteria was. The next day I googled the crap out of the interwebby thing to see if I could find it, but couldn't. All I remember is they said the second most competitive. I would assume they are taking into consideration the suburbs as the city schools usually win 2-3 games a year (playing each other). I have no doubt that larger cities may produce more talent by default. Maybe by "most competitive" they thought all the teams were pretty equal. Either way Indy has been sending it's share of D1 talent to college. Sheldon Day can provide a long list of names just from Warren Central.

I could care less how many stars Drue has. If he signs his LOI, which I would expect him to do, he'll be a Notre Dame man and thats all that matters. Who gives a [Mark May] how many stars he has, he wants to be here when other talents did not. That's the important part.

LOL. And he's 3 stars on both ESPN and Rivals. 2-1.

I was simply pointing out the irony in your adamant insistence that his ratings are correct, when you didn't even know that half of the services have him at 4:s:s. So which is correct? Rivals and ESPN? Or 247 and Scout?

It was in reference to "Plenty here think he's better than the rankings indicate"...which is ludicrous given how little we know about a 3 star guy outta IN. Seriously. LOL. LOL.

But you know that he's ranked right where he should be? And I'm ludicrous for suggesting a 6'2'' athlete who just ran a laser-timed 4.45 is likely better than ESPN's rating of 3:s:, 39th ranked OLB?

I'd compare him to Baratti-- a high-character athlete with good size and borderline elite speed. I was high on Baratti for those reasons, and he's worked out pretty well; he'd probably be one of our starting Safeties right now if not for his injury.

You're ****ing right I am. This is ND. Not Purdue.

You realize 'Bama has as many 3:s: commits as we do right now, right? Of course not. Why let a little thing like facts get in the way of your polemical shenanigans?

Dude...half those were NOT 3 star. Kap and Stewart were studs from TX (Stewart was a 5 for some services), both solid 4 stars. Zach Martin was a solid 4 star. Shembo, Councell Spond, GAIII all were as well...

What?? Are you kidding me?
