Wow! A lot of excitement for a low-rated prospect who we offered because others said no thanks. Anyway i hope he can be a steal with a nice career. Congrats Drue and welcome!

This kid is not your average 3 star recruit. He's a stud that should help us significantly at a position of dire need (athletic ILB). On top of that, he is a very well spoken kid that seems to have a great head on his shoulders. Watch his interviews and his game tape and you'll see why the board is so excited about Drue.

And as far as stars go, here's a list of 2 star recruits that panned out pretty well:

JJ Watt, Denario Alexander, Anthony Costanzo, Ryan Clady, BJ Raji, Sean Witherspoon, Aqib Talib, Eric Weddle.

As much as I'd love to have a class full of 4 and 5 star recruits, there are some programs that have built BCS teams out a bunch of players like Drue.

Welcome aboard kid. I, for one, am really, really excited to get your commitment!!!

Martini is a ILB so we were never going to strike out. Again, you don't offer a prospect in August because you are on the verge of "striking out". Not sure how else to say it. Is he the top prospect on the board, no but he's also not some bum we are grabbing because we have to. Also like Brian31 said he's had a very good senior year.

C'mon, in august we all knew that Mcmillan, Garrett, Young, Mouhon and Booker among others were not coming to ND (at least most likely).

The fact is that every school has experts evaluating talent and he had not been offered by a good/strong football program. Maybe he is the next Luke Kuechly (i hope so) or Eifert (to be more closer), but for now, he is a John Turner/Chris Badgers type of recruit IMO.

I wish him the best like other recruits and time will tell.

some good ones..lol

some good ones..lol

Why does God hate Purdue? I mean, this kid prayed on this decision, and God told him to stay the hell away from here. Who or what do we need to sacrifice to get back to the Rose Bowl?

Left tackles are harder to find than safeties. Although we have neither one on the roster at the moment

Yeah and you're right but when the plan is recruit as an ILB a tree star (four to 247sports) safety/OLB who is committed to Purdue (no offense), something is not going as planned. And that's because the staff was nearly to have a strike out with that position.

Again, stars are just a matter of opinion. It's hard to tell what the ND big board looks like, but i'm quite confident it's not even close to the recruiting site rankings. Obviously, there is some truth to what you are saying in a sense where there a few guys(not that many) that we didn't land. That said, Drue was the first guy Kelly shook hands walking on the field for the USC game. With all the other recruits there that tells you something on how high they have him on the board. Also, it's not like we just started recruiting him. This has been going on for while. ND seems to have put a lot of effort in this recruitment. It must means something. He's not just some body that will fill a gap.

Time will tell I guess.

Have fun on the bench

Purdue is the moral high ground?

Says no to a coach with high character and says yes to one with no character.

I've got a call into God's office now. When he calls me back, I'll have an answer for you. I hear he gets back quickly.

Hey Drue...remember this?

Really think he will be a serious player against spread/option teams and on passing downs. He has awesome coverage skills.

Get him on that Brian Cushing juice and he'll be an all-American ;)

If he's right, then maybe he was telling one school the bad news and then telling the other the good news.

Pretty sure since he got off the phone with the coaches last night this has been a done deal. People in the know seemed very confident. Notice how TP had a picture + article in the hopper for when it became public...

I'll take my bow now.

Not trying to be unrealistic or overly optimistic here, but I think he's a little better than you're giving him credit for. ESPN has him as an OLB, Scout has him as an OLB, Rivals has him has a safety, and 247 has him as an ILB/Safety. You think there's a chance they're evaluating different things, which would lead to different scores? Plays that will get you noticed as a stud safety aren't usually the same sort that'll get you noticed as a stud LB.

Second, he fits the NFL prototype for an ILB pretty well. 6'-1"(+) and about 210 with just a little bit of growing left to do, and he runs a 4.50. He might not be ideally positioned in High School, but if he's got that kind of athleticism (which we sorely lack) and plays the most complex position in the defense, I think he's got plenty of potential as an ILB. Hell, he's a full .3 seconds faster in the 40 than Raekwon McMillan, who we can all agree is pretty good.

This isn't the staff picking up a scrub. It's them evaluating a guy who plays in the middle of nowhere in a state not exactly known for its football, and projecting him into a different (you might use the word 'better' imo) than most recruiting services and other schools, who have barely noticed his existence. There's nothing to say he will or won't fulfill that potential, but basically calling him a scrub or a desperation pickup isn't accurate.

I went to the Purdue boards for a laugh, and I left feeling sad for them.

Pretty down in the dumps group of guys over there. It wasn't even fun.

We only want guys who want to be here. I understand picking the nd name over the current Boiler struggles as the trendy thing to do. Time will tell if sitting the bench at nd while they recruit over you; playing under a coach who has thoughts of going to NFL while professing loyalty; playing in acac; and a nd engineering degree was the better decision vs an opportunity to play 4 years in the BIG under a high character coach while earning a Purdue Engineering degree. Check back in 4 years and let us know how that worked out for you.
