Looks Like You're Getting Your Wish Jacky

Palm predicts ND to play NIU in Detroit the day after Christmas.

Instead of getting ulcers over facing Oregon you can start fretting about explaining a loss to a MAC team in a bowl to your friends and co-workers.

Sagarin's Predictor this week would make ND a 7 pt favorite. But then when you factor the recruiting value over a MAC team ... David Kills Goliath sounds like a better motivator.

Who wants to spend Christmas in Detroit?

Maybe if we're really lucky in the coming weeks The Motor City Bowl will become the official bowl game of the Obamacare Website.

The fact of the matter is if we get into a BCS bowl, I have serious doubts about us winning it....BUT it would DEFINITELY be proof that ND is back on track, that last year not a fluke, and would encourage more players to come to ND and be involved in something special.

So, yeah, we might not win the game (maybe in a blowout), BUT the positives TOTALLY outweigh the negatives.

Word. Been to a number of major cities in the Midwest and NE. Went to Detroit for Wrestlemania a few years ago...not one of my favorite stops, haven't been back since.

we got a tough road ahead of us winning out would be an accomplishment. I just hope we cant get two of the three because they will all three be tough games. It would be awful but i could see us dropping all three

I was thinking is if we make it to a BCS bowl, we would have to beat Stanford on the road. What makes you think we could beat Stanford, but not beat some other BCS opponent?

Style of play. Like many people have said, we're built to beat Stanford. We struggle with high-octane spread offenses. Most of the teams we'd play would be those kind of teams. The only ones that wouldn't be are Bama or OSU.

There's that...

I agree BTW...

I've been really hard on this team because the veterans do some things that make me red-faced...the two L's should never have been. That said...

The program is going in the right direction...They can play whomever runs out of the other tunnel with the understanding that they can win if they don't beat themselves. Its been a long time since this program could say/think that with a straight face.

Just get there...

Bowl games are incredibly hard to predict. A lot of the time, one team shows up and the other doesn't. Also, Stanford vs. Oregon gives a pretty good blueprint for how a "defense" team beats a "spread" team. We won't beat Baylor, for instance, in a shootout, but that doesn't mean we can't beat them.
Obviously we have to win out first, but do that and I'd rather take our chances on the big stage. I see no downside, really.

NIU is my #2 team...I'd of course be pulling for ND.
But man would that be fun to watch Lynch vs ND's Defense

I hope we win out and finish 10-2 (probability under 25%, I think). I pray, however, we do NOT sneak into a BCS bowl game. This is because one bowl game ***-raping is horrendous but bowl game *** rapes in successive years would be crushing. Sneaking into a BCS bowl game this year through the back door will have a cruelly ironic meaning after the game given the likely teams we'd have to play. Any possible match up in a BCS bowl game has us badly over-matched.

We have a history of sneaking into BCS bowl games with less-than-competitive teams in the not-too-distant past. We got slaughtered in both of them.

We have not had one dominant win over a good team all year. Yes, we snuck by MSU and ASU but they were not dominant wins (which I define as wins by at least 14 points). On the other hand we have escaped with our lives against weak teams (Purdue and Navy come to mind).

ND doesn't need the BCS cash and we'll be far better off playing a truly competitive game in a non-BCS bowl.

I'm afraid BYU or Stanford, or both of them, are going to moot any chance of our getting into a BCS bowl. Even if we beat both of them, however, I don't think we belong no matter what our fan appeal is,

Wanting to get into a BCS bowl game is a case of "be careful what you wish for" in my honest opinion.

I love ND football and want what's best for the school, the football program and its future. Getting slaughtered in a BCS Bowl game this year doesn't do ND football any good whatsoever. I think it's a big negative for recruiting when compared to a win in a lesser bowl. Yes, miracles happen and we might win a BCS bowl game. Would you put your money on that happening? Not me.

I invite any rational arguments proving me wrong about this. Thank you for anyone who responds with substance and not invective.
Well no worries of this happening Jacky.

Has Anthony Travel started promos for the package deals to the Motor City Bowl?

Will they be running side tours ... like to the U.P. for ice fishing?

Or a cruise to Lake Huron or Niagara Falls?

Or Cedar Point?

Wouldn't it be great if it snowed?
