Told rivals that he'll be deciding after his season whenever that is. Something i saw for the first time. Purdue is starting to recruit his brother, basically a package deal. That is appealing to Drue.

Sounds like they still have the upper hand.

the thing about purdue is that they are throwing everything into getting Drue and Gelen Robinson to stick. I really think they need Drue more than ND does and this is what will tell in the end.

I'm 'meh' on him at safety, for ND. Not at LB for basically anyone in the country. I think, and I've shared this theory before, that he knows Purdue will let him play safety. At ND he knows he's going to go to LB. He is still weighing this because he's still a kid and he doesn't know what to do. Nothing wrong with that either. Want him to be sure and I'm sure he wants the same.

I think the kid can be a difference maker at LB. And just a damn good player at safety (even though there is nothing wrong with this).

Plus you can't take away what Hazell means in this situation. From everything I know and have seen guy is a great coach and even better recruiter.

Original post on my "Drue Theory"

I agree with you. I think he can be a Luke Kuechly type flying around the field, but there's no way he would get playing time at safety with the talent we already have there.

I hope this guy is really good. I grow tired of this saga and the fact that we are fighting with freaking Purdue makes me want to puke.

Thinking he sticks with Purdue if they do the package deal thing.

Offer his brother then. Isn't he better at this point in his career? Pretty sure thats what I read.

Sounds to me that Purdue felt he was ready to flip and decided to offer his brother to keep him committed. I'm guessing BK is aware of the offer for his brother and will address it accordingly with Drue.

We are recruiting his brother as well. However, Purdue would probably offer him prior to Drue's signing day where we would certainly wait until after signing day if we were to even offer.

Steve caught up with him after the visit and remains confident he'll be Irish.

“I think I’m finally figuring things out and getting a little peace about the decision,” Tranquill said. “Right now I’m focused on my season and winning a state championship and a decision will come after the season."

I think he's wanted ND ever since he got the offer but he hasn't felt right about reneging on Purdue, and now he finally realizes that it's just business and he has to do what's best for him

Wishful thinking, maybe.

It's funny because if his little brother grows a couple inches and keeps his quickness he's actually the better prospect. Go figure.

True, he could end up being the better prospect, but I still don't think we would offer him before Drue's signing day. A summer offer would seem to be more likely. I would bet money that Purdue offers before Drue's signing day.

I don't get the impression that playing together will be a huge factor in Drue's decision.

If Drue's brother is the better prospect, then I see this as a non-issue. He will get a lot more offers and will go to a better school than Purdue.

I still feel Drue ends up Irish.

Well, he's not necessarily a better prospect right now. He's smaller than Drue but faster. Whereas Drue has good athleticism, Justin potentially has great athleticism. IMO, if he were to grow some more he would be a high 4:s: safety prospect... as is he is too undersized to project well at safety for the next level, and he doesn't seem to have elite RB ability.

Justin Tranquill

Justin Tranquill - Hudl

Drue and Justin look to be warriors that will out work most and kick the snot out of the man lined up next to him. We are in desperat need of that!

Small thing , but watch them switch the ball in the correct arm after every move. Justin and Drue are like robots...they are VERY fundamentally sound!

Justin is a solid prospect, but after watching both their tapes I don't really get the people who think Justin is going to be a better overall prospect than his brother. They have very similar overall skillsets, with Drue simply being significantly bigger.

Yes, Justin is obviously quicker with a little more top end speed, but Drue is plenty fast for his size. Give me Drue's size and that speed all day over smaller athletes, unless they have off the charts quickness and athleticism. Justin's is very good, but is certainly not elite.

100% agree. Not sure where Justin plays if he were to come to ND and therefore I don't think he ever gets an offer.

If he doesn't grow I think if you brought him in it would have to be as an athlete and see where he fits best. He definitely seems like the type of program player who is smart, athletic and easy to move based on need. My guess is he could be used as a Slot WR or Safety while being a mainstay on special teams. I just don't think he has the profile fit for CB.

Sounds like the old Golden Tate/Wes Tate conversation from several years back.

I don't think we even offered Wesley. But it does sound like the debate about the McCarthy brothers.

I knew both McCarthy brothers very well — long before they even became stars in high school.

I'll always say that Danny was the superior athlete to Kyle. Not even a question, in my eyes. Kyle was a very good high school player, but the things Danny was able to do on the field were just hilarious and unfair at times. I didn't think Kyle had what it took to play high Division I and NFL football when he was in H.S.

The two problems with Danny were that he *broke his neck* as a senior in high school, and I don't think he had the same mindset as Kyle did as a player.

Kyle really, really, really wanted to be a good player. I don't know if Danny was as dedicated to it as Kyle was. Part of that may have been the injury, part of that may have been him when he had to step his game up in college. I can't answer that question, but I do know that Kyle was a much better player than his athleticism would have said he should be.
