I don't think Loy is so bad. He loses some credibility by being too much of a homer, imo. And he comes across as kind of a loser because he seems to want too much for subscribers to like him. But he strikes me as a hard-working, conscientious, diligent reporter. I have been considering switching to ISD for a long time but haven't pulled the trigger yet. Loy's been behind on some stuff, but I just kinda feel like he'll be good as he continues to learn the ropes of getting info at ND.

Another thing people should keep in mind is that BGI was the last to recognize the Jamel James commitment last cycle, too, and Loy wasn't even there then. The insistence on waiting for confirmation of info about academics may come from above Loy.

Very well said and I agree completely.

No joke I made a tweet asking why other prospects for other schools have never had test scores/academics preclude them from listing a "verbal" if there is interest from both parties... and his response was:
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p><a href="https://twitter.com/NDIrishLax">@NDIrishLax</a> If you think I have issues with a kid, you couldn't be more wrong. Sorry you feel that way. You literally couldn't be more off.</p>— Tom Loy (@TomLoy247) <a href="https://twitter.com/TomLoy247/statuses/393769137521958912">October 25, 2013</a></blockquote>
<script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p><a href="https://twitter.com/NDIrishLax">@NDIrishLax</a> I believe in being 100% accurate with reports and being factual. We've been that way throughout the recruitment. Enjoy your wknd</p>— Tom Loy (@TomLoy247) <a href="https://twitter.com/TomLoy247/statuses/393769395958185984">October 25, 2013</a></blockquote>
<script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

So then I asked him again "you didn't answer the question, why does McKenzie get a different set of rules applied to him than every other prospect?"

No response.

They're reporting that he isn't qualified. I disagree with them too on the not listing a "verbal," but I respect them more taking him off the list due to a bad score then refusing to put him on a list in the first place pending scores.

I'll ask again, if McKenzie "remains adamant about attending school in South Bend" and the staff wants him as part of the class, how is that not a "verbal"?

Qualification and a verbal commitment have always been two completely distinct things. Except now for McKenzie.

can someone breakdown for me when they get time the difference between:

BGI
24/7
ISD

thank you

It's all personal preference. I have checked out all 3 sites, and for the most part they all have basically the same information. Some sites might scoop others, but in the end, you might get the info like 5 minutes before the other sites report it. Seriously, if it is straight info that you want, why pay? Just stick to IE as this place has everyone's info within minutes of it being posted.

I'm definitely biased, but for me, the reasons I stuck with ISD are:

1. the message board - it simply is way less negative and has way less idiots on it than the other 2 boards IMHO. The other boards become unreadable at times. ISD has its share of knuckleheads, but nowhere near what you see on other boards.

2. the mods/community - ISD is more like a family-owned business than II and 247. The mods do a good job of making everyone feel welcomed, and they actually hang out with regular fans at tailgates. They have a tailgate before every home game where fans with nowhere to go can hang out, drink beer and eat free of cost. And they are down-to-earth people. Since moving to SB, I've gotten to know several of the mods personally, and they really are good people. Sean Mele is about the funniest guy you'll meet, and his BK stories are phenomenal. Stires is real cool. Christian is probably the best in the business right now, but as TP will tell you, he's as down-to-earth as they come. Sat with him at the Spring Game and he and his lady are great people.

There's a thread up right now where Mike Frank is telling recruiting stories - unbelievable thread and worth the price of subscription for a year. I've been to a few of their live Power Hours and afterwards we'll hang out and the guys will tell you some awesome stories, off the record of course. If you go to a tailgate MF will open up about some insane stories.

Again, this is all biased so hopefully others can chime in on why the other sites are great. For me, the message boards on the other sites were full of too many a-holes (ironic coming from me, I know) and too many "HOLY CRAP WE ONLY WON BY 20 WE SUCK AND I DON'T THINK BRIAN KELLY IS THE RIGHT GUY FOR THE JOB!!!!!!!" threads, and when you disagreed, it was "**** YOU YOU MORON!"

Hopefully things have changed. Hope this helped...I would say for info you can't go wrong, for volume of articles I would go with II or 247 bc of their networks, and for message board I'd go with 247. I have a subscription to II and ISD but I haven't posted on II for years.

II is the way to go for a subscription. Pete Sampson and Jake Browne are really good at what they do and Tim Prister writes some really good articles/analysis. Get a lot of info from other rivals affiliates such as Adam Gorney which definitely make it worth it IMO.

I'm convinced Ryan Bartow's weekly Inside Word on purpose makes crap up about recruits to drive up hits. Every week there is information that seems new or big and all the reporters link his story and then every week it seems prospects deny the reports. McKenzie, Yeargin. This week Damien Prince denies the reported Top 7 in order that is being reported

Just to give credit where credit is due, Loy messaged me this morning and we hashed things out through email. I understand where he is coming from better, and I'll retract previous posts hypothesizing that he might be a tool and/or douche. I think he is trying really hard to do the best job that he can, even if I don't necessarily agree 100% with where he is coming from.

I'll continue to consider him a useless tool, unless you'd like to share what changed your opinion of course.

I think it's better tact to keep private correspondence private... I'll just say that I give him props for reaching out and explaining in detail point-by-point why he's approaching things from the angle he is. I don't necessarily agree with where he's coming from still, but I no longer think his motivations are based in being a tool/douche (or being incompetent). I truly think he's trying to give the best representation of the situation that he can.

I'll also add that he seems quite receptive to directly answering any questions you might have if you want to contact him directly.

Did you call him out over there or do those guys actually read this place?

Released crystal ball 2.0 today... pretty cool feature to track how teams are trending and the like... here's a couple examples:

Michiah Quick's Crystal Ball Predictions
John Smith's Crystal Ball Predictions

They've also got metrics now that are pretty neat for measuring the picks of the analysts. The 3.0 version will allow recruits/fans to make predictions... which I think is kind of ridiculous, but at least they're segregating that nonsense away from the expert picks.

That new feature really allows fans and users to see who the accurate predictors are, and who the homers are haha.

Look at some of the averages for the 'team insiders'. The Oklahoma guys are both around 30% for their Oklahoma picks, and Schrader is only at 45% for his USC picks. Hell, for all we get on Loy he is at least at 83% with his ND picks.

Take those insider picks with a grain of salt going forward, huh?

I'm actually very pleasantly surprised to hear this. Not at all what I would have assumed. Reps to Loy.

Wiltfong is 100% on his ND predictions.

Except that's only because he has switched off of ND before prospects have announced for elsewhere.

Kyle Allen, etc. come to mind as predictions that didn't pan out.

God can anybody else just not stand the crystal ball? They got all these bums making picks. I would love it if it was just the national analyst making picks and guys who run sites. I don't want to hear what guys from bleacher report think

How does one get the power to use the crystal ball? What are the requirements to hold such power?

To all the guys that have 247 subs.
Is it just me or have the last few tunnel visions been very disappointing?
Feel like it's the same story over and over with most of them.

I am only asking because I don't follow this stuff but how does it affect their ratings if they switch their CB?
Example: Wiltfong currently feels good about Quick. If he switches his pick to OU and then Quick picks OU, how does that affect his 93%. Is it fluid until the kid commits? Does it not count until the kid commits?
