ISD was told the visit was "awesome" and the atmosphere made an impression. Will still take his visit to ISU, and it's obvious it's down to ND and Iowa State. ND gave him plenty to think about.

Wiltfong spoke with Lazard's father, said ND is still plan B at this point. They liked what they saw, but want to let it sink in before making any kind of decision. Dad got to meet with BK and liked that, they visited with Elliott, Alford, and Martin as well. The staff really emphasized the benefits of ND besides football. His dad said they talked about doors that would be opened a lot and said it was an "eye-opener" as to how ND views the value of its degree. His dad said that he knew about ND growing up and knew about what they had to offer. He added he "definitely doesn't have a problem" with ND if that is Allen's choice.

Between him and Drue, I really can't understand why ISU/Purdue over ND. This goes beyond being an ND homer too. I just don't get it.

I think with both of them......and I could be way off base, but I get the impression that these are both high character kids, who made a commitment and value the term commitment, and are having a hard time with their pledge, because ND offers them so much more......football and after football......

No it doesn't. You are not looking at this objectively. With Lazard it may simply be about family connections to ISU (this is based on some prior posts). This could actually be quite strong.

As far as Due is concerned, he might be factoring in playing time. He is not rated very high, so unlike for example Jaylon Smith, there is a chance he may never play serious minutes during his entire ND career (if he were to choose ND). For example, look at Moore. I think they were comparably rated and for all practical purposes Moore never plays. If this is an issue for him he obviously has a better chance of see more and early playing time going to Purdue.

Now since I don not know either of these young men personally the above are only two examples of possible scenarios as to why either of them might choose not to come to ND. Neither may apply but there also may be other reasons as to why they may choose to go elsewhere, and no matter what their ultimate decision is, it will be the correct one for them regardless what you or I think.

That's big if his dad gave him the blessing for ND if family ties are that important in his decision.

I think if he was gonna flip he would have already. He's loyal to Iowa State and this ND visit will wear off and he will keep goin to Iowa State. I really respect that and wish him the best of luck.

Really? I think a kid in his situation would either do it silently (not that he could keep that a secret for long... I'm not suggesting he has flipped already) or wait as long as possible to switch. Life would probably be uncomfortable for him locally if he chose somewhere besides Iowa State.

I hope you're right man but I don't see him flipping.

I think it's unlikely Lazard comes. He's been pretty committed to them through questions on social media. Of course, that means about zilch if your last name is Hood. I think Lazard goes to ISU because of the family connection with his dad and brother. He's pretty friendly with the future players there, and he's actively recruiting for them. Theres always the outside chance he sees how poorly their offense throws the ball downfield (Yeah, ours isn't great either, but will be better next year with Golson back) in a Big12 conference thats weak on defense to begin with.

He wouldn't have come to South bend if he wasn't sure about staying home imo.

Evidently some ISU fans were freaking out about a recent tweet by Lazard about playing on NBC so this guy had to calm everyone down. LOL

Any word anyone has on the coaching situation there?

Looks like they are not follish enough to assume that they could automatically do better at this point.

http://www.desmoinesregister.com/article/20131102/SPORTS020602/311020108/

I will say that I really do think this is a bad choice on his part. If you are a 240 lb RB who likes to go up the middle, you should not go to Oregon. If you are a pro-style gunslingger, you should not go to GaTech.

If you are a WR, any WR, you should not got to Iowa State. He is not going to learn his craft at practice or on the field.

Leggaret Blount did pretty well at Oregon at 240 pounds and they had another Jonathan Stewart that was 5'10 230 pounds and they were successful. You do not have to fit a system.

Well I disagree that anyone can fit in any system, but you missed my point. I said NO wide reciever should go to Iowa State.

Oh logically it does not make any sense, but choosing a university is not just about logic. Maybe he thinks he is better and does not need to go to a high major school to be better. Maybe he wants to follow in Greenberry's footsteps. Who knows, but he can make his choice.

I responded to your question in the Coaching Hot Seat thread and will repeat it here. I don't think it's a significant issue in this case.

Anyone heard anything on Iowa State recently? Would be nice to add Lazard to the 2014 class if there is a possible change.

According to CoachesHotSeat.com Paul Rhoades is on the 8th hottest seat. However their listing doesn't reflect the demeanor on campus or among the school's movers and shakers. They establish an arbitrary ranking preseason then reposition each coach up or down depending on whether they won or lost their last game.

Historically, ISU is a losing program winning only about 45% of its games. So expectations aren't lofty. Their last winning coach was Earle Bruce, 53%, who left in '78. Before Bruce you have to go back to WWII to find a coach whose career broke EVEN. Other than Bruce you have to go back to WWI to find the next coach with an ISU WINNING record.

Rhoades 5 years at ISU are:
7-6
5-7
6-7
6-7
1-7

Pretty bad ... but about 250% better than predecessor Gene Chizik's 3-9 and 2-10.

Last year ISU scored 8 points more than they allowed. It was the only season in the past 7 where ISU DID score more points than allowed. Rhoades appeared to be taking them to a "new" level by approaching .500 ... until the wheels fell off this season. I suspect their are ISU fans longing for a change to a winning coach while a lot of others feel Rhoades is so much better than those who came before him.

Lazard grew up with a losing ISU program as did his parents, grandparents, and great grandparents.

A coaching change could make flipping "an easy decision", he is otherwise solid - TV
I hope for his sake that he looks down the road a bit because the ISU staff is most likely safe for Lazard's freshman season but are the going to be there come his sophomore season?

Another horrid season like this one has been and no one could last very long.

At ISU? Losing is part of the culture.

Before Chizik, McCarney was there for 12 years winning under 40% of his games. His predecessor Walden was there for 8 years while winning only 33% of his games.

Why would they change their Second Best Head Coach in almost 100 years?
