So Bryant's status does pertain to this game (you know they have 4 healthy backs in front of him right?)? He's different than Deeb how? Do you really think Kelly reads this site? Do you really think he's spending alot of time trying to figure how to placate a freshman because he was rated elite in HS? I am interested in Bryant's status but I don't necessarily feel his weekly presser is incomplete unless and until someone raises a burning question that you have.

No, but neither did 40% of the questions the reporters ask. That is my point.

... I'm not saying he's different than Deeb at all. I'm saying if we can talk about players who will not be playing in the USC game (there's about a dozen asked about), how do they not ask about Bryant and his 'injury'?

What are you talking about? Anyone who follows ND closely and is not coo-coo, is interested in Bryant and the outcome.

If you think Chase Houncell, Nick Baratti, Tony Springman, and Deeb are more intriguing topics right now, then IDK what to tell you. To each his own, it's just surprising that no one asks about Bryant.

BK must have made it clear before the conference that he didn't want anyone to ask about Bryant. That's fine, but that's not a good sign.

If you don't like my posts, block me. I won't be offended, I couldn't care less.

When the press conference is littered with topics that DO NOT pertain to the USC game (Michael Deeb, Tori Hunter Jr.'s progress, Chace Houncell, Tony Springman, Nick Baratti, etc.), an elite freshman who has transfer rumors looming with an alleged mystery injury is something people want to know about.

I remain interested in Bryant's situation, as does 99% of Irish fans.

I don't agree with that. I think the majority of ND fans know what the situation is with Bryant and would rather move on if there isn't anything new to address. Which by all accounts, there isn't anything new to the story.

So the rest of us move on to other team news instead of harping the same worn out story that isn't going anywhere. That's what Me2 is saying.

Everybody wants to know, but do you really think Kelly would comment on it anyway? Commenting on it would only cause a distraction this team doesn't need. They have bigger titties to lick than having their coach field a question about transfer rumors.

Plus Kelly's too damn much of a politician that I wouldn't trust anything he would say about the situation.

Which leads me to believe BK has given the no-go to the press on Bryant questions, which isn't a good sign. That is my point. Non-action can be telling in certain situations.

I think he gave them a "no-go" because he doesn't want to open up Pandora's Box in front of the team. How would the team feel if he started fielding questions about rumors of a frosh RB transferring before the biggest home game this season?

It's just not worth getting into that.

carlo/fox----then schmidt/moore/......................deeb

Thanks, I just thought it was strange he didn't mention him over a walk-on. Moore has always struck me as a more athletic Carlo: big-hitting run-stuffer who may be a liability in pass coverage.

What would you like to hear regarding his status? He's a possible transfer? You make more of an issue of this thing than anyone. Maybe actual reporters (you know, people not named you) aren't that concerned because Bryant is just like a lot of freshmen. They aren't ready or are injured so they don't play. You make way too much of this, please let it go it's tiring to read over and over.

Come on, Keith. Stop with the common sense, "They aren't ready or are injured so they don't play."

99% of the twits KNOW the truth. There's a conspiracy here and the press is covering it up because that's what the press does. They protect their boy. Everybody knows that.

And who are you to guess what reporters might be concerned with irrelevant like who will be covering the vulnerable middle with the STARTER out?

Geez, just because you have press credentials and proven insight ... Damn it enquiring minds want to hear what they know.

i really want to see what he can bring to the table myself...now in his mop up time last year he did well....but i guess it's his practice where he has shown he isn't so sure where he is to be which then leads to lack of trust for game situations...BK once said in spring i believe was something along the lines of .....Moore can hit, but we just have to get him hitting the "right guy"

Yes, this, totally agree. There have been no new developments, there's nothing to talk about, I would love it if we could move on until something changes.

He has a good point. Obviously you aren't 99% of the fanbase. Pretty silly to represent yourself as such given the amount of people who have already expressed a different opinion.

No need for the juvenile pouty response. It is not unreasonable for someone to ask you to simply speak for yourself, is it?

Sweet lord. Let it go. If he would have been better than the other backs, he would be on the field. Simple as that. The kid is a freshman, and he needs to improve before seeing the field. I don't care how many stars he had. That thing is not a perfect science.

Anyways...

What would you expect Coach Kelly's answer to be if asked about Bryant........ You should already know, it would go something like this

Greg is a great football player and he is adjusting to life as a ND student which is a very difficult thing to do. He has an injury right now that is preventing him from seeing the field but we love Greg as a football player and hopefully he will play lots of football for us in the future.

Coach, what about the transfer rumor?

Greg is a part of this team right now and that's how we look at it.

Next question

'99%' is so cliche it's used tongue and cheek these days. Yes, I cannot mathematically determine with certainty that exactly 99% of Irish fans want to know more about Bryant, lol. But my point is, any ND fan who's follows the team closely wants to know what's going on with Bryant, and that is not a stretch unless you're kidding yourself.

That would be a great answer. My point is, since they're not asking, it's likely they've been told not to ask. I think everyone can read between the lines from there.

Lol at everyone saying 'let it go', but you're the one continuing on this topic, saying what's already been said. If you want to jump on the pile, you'll keep it going.

I've made my point.

I get where you are coming from, I really do. I think what people are saying is the question in itself is pointless, you know what the answer is going to be. Coach Kelly isn't going to give you, me or the media any of type of information as to what is going on behind the scenes with Greg.

I do not follow the SD Chargers at all, but Manti (#50) looked identical to #58 and #90 for the Chargers in skin tone, height, and build, and I could never tell who was who. It was very frustrating. Wish he was still #5 lol.

how BK wants DB's to play...discussed at presser

how BK wants DB's to play...discussed at presser

I know some of you have been interested in this in recent weeks, so I'll post Kelly's complete answer below. He did a nice job explaining today how Notre Dame's defensive backs are coached to play a receiver when the ball is in the air.

Basically, if a DB is running hip to hip with his receiver they want the DB to turn and find the ball to make a play. If the receiver is a step out in front they want them to keep running and "rake the basket," which means rip their arm between the receiver's arms to try to knock the ball loose as it lands.

Kelly said he thought the secondary was much improved from the start of the season in that department.

He also made some interesting comments about defending back-shoulder throws -- a growing weapon for almost every good offense in college and pro football in the past few years. He said the best shot defenses have to stop those plays is to recognize tendencies and formations before the snap and prepare for that type of a throw.
"In phase, out of phase. In phase, hip to hip, turn, and play the ball. So if you're in phase, hip to hip with the receiver, turn and play the ball. Out of phase, don't turn and rake through the basket. We call the basket where the hands for the receiver are in a position. So it's an in phase, out of phase technique discussion as it relates to playing the ball. Don't put the hands up. Don't faceguard. If you're not in phase, you're trying to get the strip and rip through and dislodge the football."

I disagree lol. That's straight-up coach speak, and I hate that. I'd rather the question not be asked than to hear a generic answer that is just going to start the speculation all over again.
