Oddsmaker guesses what the point spread would be if Denver Broncos played University of Alabama.

40 is too generous. Denver would put up as many points as it wanted and Bama couldn't do anything about it. I see this conversation every year about whether Bama could beat an NFL team. It could NOT. Not even the shitsy Jags.

This is one game I believe Denver could score 100 if they really wanted to.

Teams in the NFL can't stop Peyton Manning, he would shred a college defense

They have dropped 37 points plus in each game this year.

This. If Denver wanted to, they could score 70+ without blinking and Alabama... who sometimes struggles to score on defenses that are at an LSU or Virginia Tech level... would get demolished by a very good Denver D.

Michigan was about a 40 point favorite over Akron. You think there is a bigger gap between Michigan and Akron than (one of) the best team in the NFL and a college football team that might not be better than Oregon? Oddsmakers need to get real.

My Alabama homer boss recently told me that Alabama would beat every team in the NFL except for Denver, Baltimore, and Atlanta. In reality Jacksonville's back ups would probably win by 30 points.

Perhaps if the Vikes were to play Alabama Christian Ponder could look like a decent QB...no just kidding he'd still suck.

Bama would only win if they had a month more to prepare and Mannning was involved in a fake-dead-girlfriend hoax the month before.

I'm a huge Bama fan, but let's be real here. The best college team in the country couldn't beat the worst NFL team's 2nd string. Denver could name the score against us. We maybe have a dozen players at most that could make an NFL roster and most of them wouldn't be stars. The Broncos have 53 players good enough to make an NFL roster. It would be a slaughter.

How about the worst team in NFL history (maybe the 0-16 Lions) vs the best team in CFB history? May have a shot there

A shot, maybe, but that's all. They still had 30 guys who could make most NFL rosters.

I'm not sure many of the NFL teams from 40 years ago could beat a top college team from today though, because of the size & strength difference. I read something this summer where John Hannah & Dwight Stephenson, two HOF members who were maybe the best to ever play their positions, were talking about their playing weights. Hannah played at about 275 and Stephenson at 255-260. Players were a LOT smaller then than today. Hard to see, no matter how good their technique was, how they could've blocked today's 300 pound guys who do nothing but work out all year. Not sure 260 lb defensive linemen and 220 lb linebackers from the NFL's 70's teams could handle todays 330 lb college linemen.

I have always heard that and thought it was an unfair discussion though... that's just the evolution of the sport.. give the 68 packers a year of modern training and they'd adjust just fine... on the flip, take away said training and throw the best of this era and they wouldn't blow everyone away... good athletes are good athletes...

at least that's my thoughts on it...

It's like the argument that Babe Ruth wouldn't do anything today... bah... he'd face a tighter wound ball thrown from lowered mounds, in smaller parks, with better training techniques and equipment against diluted pitching and you think he'd do WORSE???

Still wouldnt be close, you have to think that every player on an NFL roster was one of the best players on their college football team. The Jaguars would be the #1 ranked team in the country right now in college football

You are opening a can of worms there. Tread with caution before it is too late. :)

He also wouldn't have to hit spitters, shiners, emery balls, and a dozen or so other banned pitches.

Granted they weren't D1 players, but I once watched Olympic gold medalist and Auburn All-American Vickie Orr playing a pickup game with a bunch of guys who were devoted gym rats and former high school bb players. It was ugly. She was way out of their league and seriously schooling them.

Surprised they are using this year's Bama team. They don't look nearly as good as they have the previous two years, imo.

Peyton would fillet them. If he can throw 5 TD's against a pro team, he would drop 10 on Bama. The only hope Bama would have of stopping them from scoring 70 would be to try to slow the clock down by running every down. If they did that, then maybe Peyton only throws 8 TD's.

I want them to just go ahead and do this one year to show people who don't understand how vast the disparity is.

I want to see them do it just so I can see Bama get destroyed and embarrassed one game.

While the idea of Bama vs the Broncos is a joke, but they do have more high level draft picks than any NFL team.

In the last 4 drafts, Alabama has had 12 1st round draft picks, and 17 picks in the first 3 rounds. Not all will pan out, but still that's astounding.
