When I ever played ball of any sort, it was my feeling that "we" [the team] went with what we had and did the best we could. And, if we didn't happen to have LeBron James or Peyton Manning on the roster, we didn't land all over the guy we DID have, as long as he was giving it all he had. That was because we WERE Team, and a band of brothers pulling together on the same rope. We did what we could, and we supported each other through ups and downs. If somebody had a bad game, he was still our teammate. Most of us would probably have punched mockers in the face.
I believe that this team plays really hard almost to a man. Even when they show poor instinctive reactions, block the wrong guy or nobody at all, run a lousy route, they seem to at least be trying to do something productive. And this is especially true for Tommy. He seems to me to be IN to every play, really trying hard to not let the bombardment of Kelly subtleties, defensive trickery and bluff, hostile fans [even his "own"] get to him. He's carrying the weight. Mostly he carries it well. The world would be a better place if everyone tried as hard as Tommy Rees, and if those who want to add to his burdens would just "go away".
A reasonable case can be made that the "horrors" of the Oklahoma game had much more to do with a whole pile of breakdowns [and some bad luck] having little to do with Tommy. Kelly said so. TJ said so. My own eyes said so. I am happy to keep company with Coach and TJ, but even if all three of us are terribly wrong, Tommy is my teammate, my hard-working, always giving what he has, teammate. When Arizona State shows up on the other side of the field, I'll know that my quarterback has readied himself as well as anyone can to again give everything he has.
We only have one choice from our easy chairs: are we going to cheer for him or not??
