1. I'd be surprised if there wasn't another team in the NFL that would give them more than a mid to late 1st rounder.

2. Trent Richardson is a stud and is an offensive foundation himself. They shouldn't have hired that coach if Trent didn't fit the system.

3. Why now? They could have gotten the same deal at the end of the year from some team.

1. That's a good point I didn't think about, but it also depends on the perspective of owners, GMs and coaches about draft value.

2. I don't think Trent is a "foundation," at least he hasn't proven to be, especially with the apparent injury risk he presents. I also think the days of building around a running back are over for the most part. It's foolish to bank on a high-price RB with the way the NFL looks presently.

3. Possible lockerroom issues or he demanded a trade?

No. No he wasn't. GM's and coaches don't look at his value in Fantasy Football leagues. They look at his value, in you know, the real league.

Through 18 games as a pro, he's been mediocre at his position as a professional...and already traded as the #3 overall pick.

TDs are pretty valuable in real football too. Don't know why you brought up fantasy football.

Considering he was on the Browns I think he was a beast last year

This is freaking awesome. Once we get Ballard back next year we are going to have two bowling balls back there.

Fair enough.

I, personally, wouldn't consider any player a beast that isn't even close to sniffing a Pro Bowl bid, let alone being talked about as a snub for it or close to a bid.

i don't like the move. It has a mortgaging the future feel. We aren't close to winning sb in the next couple of years, so why?

You got a 22 year old #1 running back for a mid round pick. Mortgaging the future?

Colts vs Seahawks in the Super Bowl

And the Browns continue to show everyone why they are the worst organization in the NFL and one of the worst ones in all of sports

Seems like whoever wins the NFC West is gonna be the favorite to rep the NFC in the super bowl

The Colts play the Niners and Seahawks two of the next two weeks. Just a brutal stretch for the next coming weeks. Really couldn't afford to lose to the damn Dolphins.

Exactly.

This is a GREAT move. In Cleveland defenses never had to respect the pass, so they would stack the box damn near every play.

Andrew Luck can burn you with the weapons that he has (Hilton, Wayne, Fleener, DHB), so it should give Richardson a ton more room to run.

The Browns have 2 first rounders, 2 third rounders and 2 fourth rounders now. The new powers that be can rebuild how they like now.

It's not like Richardson could turn the franchise around on his own anyway.

They trade UP with their high 1st round pick, 4th, 5th, and 7th round picks to pick the guy, then trade him one year later for probably a mid 1st rounder. That's moronic.

And of course the Vikings got a pro bowl left tackle, and got the picks to trade up for a probable pro bowl safety in Harrison Smith (hell yea!). And now Trent Richardson on a competent offense? That's pretty scary.

A.) They wouldnt get the same deal at the end of the year because the colts would be losing out on a full season of production with Trent. This is the best time to make trades like this, you just dont see them often because of the salary cap hit that it takes to pull them off. The Browns are under the cap by 30 million so the 6 mil hit is nbd.

Edit: Also Trent is hurting his value every time he touches the field. He has been garbage so far this year.

B.) Also trading Richardson right now ensures the Browns have one of the worst records in the league, improving our own draft pick.

Not at all. Jim Browns assessment was spot on, he is average. Trent was never in the conversation for offensive rookie of the year. I can count the number of impact plays he made last year on one hand. He danced in the backfield instead of hitting the hole hard. He was never on the feild on 3rd down in either regime, so thats on Trent not the hc. And there where 2 better RBs taken in the same draft Alfred Morris and Doug Martin.

The Browns blew before the trade and they blow after the trade. At least now there is a more optimistic outlook for our future talent. Not that Richardson is total garbage, but id rather have an RB from the 20s that fits our scheme.

No one is ever willing to trade a #1 for an RB so good job Browns.

Wow I'm happy as a colts fan because I love a power run team, and colts aren't known for that.

Colt's probably won this trade, but the Brown's didn't do too bad either. Trent didn't really fit their team. Also, just by the eye test, I didn't think he was a a superstar. I'm a big believer in building pro teams on the line of scrimmage. Just look at the Lions, who kept drafting skill positions, and kept losing games. Running backs are kind of a dime a dozen these days. Find a guy who fits your scheme more than one who will carry your team.

That actually isn't true, he faced 8 man boxes less than the league average last season. Source

They could get a better or equal deal from another team. And they get the benefit of Trent being on the team this season. There are other ways to tank your season without trading your best skill player for little value. I'm guessing you are a Browns fan in denial. Can't blame you!

To the people knocking on Trent's stats.

1) He was a rookie.
2) He had no QB help.
3) He was on the Browns.

4) The Browns were always playing from behind and had to heave the ball all over the place
5) Their passing attack struck no fear in opponents...Why not put eight in the box
6) Can't believe that he only fumbled twice...

He is going to go off in Indy!

They don't want the benefit of Trent being on the team this season. Addition by subtraction in terms of draft position. Joe Banner is one of the biggest weasels in pro sports, trust me if there was a better trade he would have made it. I would be shocked if there was a better option. No one gives up first round picks for RBs, the colts where desperate. The colts contacted the browns yesterday, there is a reason the browns pounced on the trade so fast.

Good source (seriously)

It is only about 5% less than league average though.

Still though, it would seem that teams defending against Cleveland's offense would be able to focus on stopping the run first, and worry about the pass second. Even if they didn't put 8 or more in the box.

Some of you Brownie's fans help me out on this?

No offense amigo, but "desperate" is a pretty strong word.

I'd say that both teams won in this deal.

Richardson gets to play with a team where he can develop.

Cleveland gets a first round pick.

Agreed the biggest thing is that linebackers are more inclined to attack the run without fear of being beaten with the pass. Having a real QB will definitely help him out, but its not like he showed that he was worthy of being a top 3 pick or even top 10 for that matter.

Makes the Colts much more dangerous. Good trade as long as he's durable.

Given his body of work (which is a rookie season with a ****** passing offense) then, sure, I would agree....
