He may be enjoying his visit and even leaning towards UM until he gets into the game and finds himself rooting for the Irish.

Wasn't it Elmer who went through that exact scenario? I could be mixed up but I thought I remembered that about his recruitment.

It doesn't always take a lot to remind recruits why they love ND.. and a solid fight in such a hostile environment could do just that.

I truly believe they will.. By at least 10. I don't want to get into it in this thread but BK didn't even crack open the play book for Temple.. seriously. Chuck was playing Tecmo.

Scout article about ND and Michigan recruiting against each other but has comments from Cornell and Hillard - Drifting Apart

Cornell, the No. 6 ranked defensive end in 2015, currently has Michigan and Notre Dame as the two schools atop his long list.

“Both of their coaching staffs are great,” Cornell said. “They know what they’re doing and they’re building great recruiting classes. One offer doesn’t mean more than another.. Notre Dame is all over the country recruiting. You know an offer is a big deal from them because they don’t necessarily care where I’m from.”

The differences between Notre Dame and Michigan for Cornell rest in campus.

“I think of Notre Dame’s campus as one big area, and you don’t really leave campus,” Cornell said. “You play football, learn from the coaches and get your education. Michigan has more of a college town. There are different feels to both.”

“I would say that I like Michigan’s campus better, but I like what Notre Dame can offer me academically better,” Cornell said.

He also picked Michigan to win this weekend because they are at home.

BK stressed to Jashon this week that he is at the very top of our defensive board, #1 target.

Surprized CHD could get beaten though, I had always presumed they were a powerhouse up there.

Somehow they're not. They have more talent than every team in MN every year by a long shot but they've only won 2 state championships, and both those teams had guys who were named national player of the year (Henderson in '09, Joe Mauer in '99). Hard to believe they can't win more with the talent that comes through.

Everything positive from the visit as expected. Hung out with Campbell Speight and Hand. Not naming any leaders but they "stand up there."

Wiltfong said he is close to changing his Crystal Ball to Michigan...

I'd definitely bet on him going to Michigan, not ND.

Just an embarrassing job of getting out recruited by Michigan. No sugar coating it

Yup Looks like Michigan made a great hire. With the players they are bringing i am glad we don't play them anymore.

2015 is a long time from now. Just keeping perspective here. They improved their chances this week-end, but there is a lot of games left to be played and a lot more recruiting to be done on this guy.
I wouldn't put all my chips on this week-end alone.

Let's get this kid on campus for the grand finale at ND next year, beat Michigan, and impress him.

You guys have got to chill!

Michigan was a contender for this kid before the game and I seriously doubt the final score of the game will have a significant impact on his final choice.

I will however admit that Michigan recruiting is surprisingly good!

At the pace recruiting is going this year, he may commit by then. Lot of top 2015 kids in his ear, it's tough to resist giving into peer pressure.

That's why I'm opposed to an earlier signing day. Makes the pressure on these kids too strong when they're only sophomores or juniors.

I agree with you that it is tough to not give into peer pressure, however most kids that give into peer pressure don't stick in the end. If the reason he commits to Michigan is peer pressure, I feel pretty good about that.

Isn't the reason we supposedly lead for him also, basically, peer pressure?
He's friends with Onwualu, goes to a pipeline school, a coach played at ND, etc.
And we love it when its our guys who are in others recruits' ears. All's fair.

But seriously, it's too soon to start sweating '15 kids, especially elite recruits who have no particular reason to commit this early. Is he coming to visit ND this season?

He's often on campus...

Why worry about it now? Even if he were to go to UM we will never play him unless it is in the playoff or another bowl game. Long way to go in this recruitment and he will be at the ND-USC game in October.

there should 100% be an early singing day. There is one in basketball. Why not football? Kids should also be able to take 5 official visits per year any time of the year IMO. Why limit a kid to just 5 officials only during his senior year and why only during football season? Lots of top prospects get a lot more than 5 offers, and it's hard financially on a lot of their families to be able to visit schools all over the country.

Nobody puts a gun to a kids head and makes them commit either. The word commitment means nothing to these kids these days. You commit only when you know you are 100% sure of where you want to go to college. Not just so you can hold a spot until the offer you really want comes your way or so you can play some game with the media and get on ESPN and have reporters cover you.

I just think an early signing period would help out tremendously and help weed out a lot of the drama and BS.

The basketball early signing period is in the fall, with the "late" period in the spring. I would be supportive of an early period in football that was the last week in August, but I wouldn't want the early period to be too early. You don't want guys committing a year and a half before they get on campus with no chance to change their minds, IMO.

Jashon Cornell said that he was wowed by Michigan, is it me or did we lose more than the game on Saturday night? The sky is not falling but, the ground is about to collapse from under us. Notre Dame losing to michigan in that enviornment with all of the other top recruits to already verbal to michigan is not a good thing.

He was wowed by Michigan, but it'd be hard not to be wowed.

ESPN Gameday was there. Beyonce did a little video at half-time that went on the jumbotron screens and the half-time show was like a concert with all those LED lights. All the recruits/commits were there. Mark Harmon was there to honor his dad at the pre-game ceremony when they gave Devin Gardner the #98 Michigan Legends jersey. Eminem was even in the house, and when they announced it on the jumbotron/PA systems the crowd went insane. It was a great game, live environment, and all the recruits/commits were there.

But at the end of the day it's just one visit. There's a long, long, long ways to go. This is going to be a battle. Cornell is going to visit ND a couple more times, he's not making a decision any time soon.

All the visit did was make this a real battle. He was a heavy ND lean before the visit, now Michigan is firmly entrenched in this one. The emotions and excitement will die down, and ND will get their crack at him when they host USC at night.
