I just get the feeling that he's not going to wind up at UNC. Not saying he's coming back here, just think he won't wind up a Tar Heel.

I have no way to rationalize it, but I feel better about our chances with Hood with him committing right away to UNC rather than staying open for a few months.

Yup. He could have shopped around and he didn't. Obviously he still might, but it appears there's really only two schools he's seriously considered, and we're the other one. We shall see...

Gio Bernard decommitted because of a coaching change. Not the same thing.

Every decommitment is unique if you spilt enough hairs. Point is there is NO reason to believe he will be back. Nothing he has said gives me that warm, fuzzy feeling.

Yeah, I gotta believe that, if a guy de-commits and relatively quickly commits to someone else, then that's it, barring some breakdown or significant change in the new program. It's not like he just got all confused for a while and needed re-assess his many options, and so might come back to us once he considers it more calmly. I'll be very surprised if he comes back (though very happy).

Like the lure of the siren's song. Never what it seems to be, yet who among us can resist?

Not me.

"Square in your ship's path are Sirens, crying
beauty to bewitch men coasting by;
woe to the innocent who hears that sound!
He will not see his lady nor his children
in joy, crowding about him, home from sea;
the Sirens will sing his mind away
on their sweet meadow lolling. There are bones
of dead men rotting in a pile beside them
and flayed skins shrivel around the spot."

I've been lured and thrashed many a time in my life.

Four-star running back Elijah Hood commits to North Carolina

CarolinaBlue.com has learned that Charlotte (N.C.) Catholic running back Elijah Hood has committed to North Carolina.

Hood, one of the top overall athletes in the nation, was very impressive at The Opening in Beaverton, Ore., earlier this summer.

The 5-11, 224-pound prospect decommitted from Notre Dame back on August 20 and at the time, the Tar Heels looked to be the favorite to land the talented ball carrier.

In what was a shocker, Hood decided to open up his recruitment after being one of the most openly solid Irish commitments in the 2014 class. Sources close to the situation told CarolinaBlue.com that distance was the main factor in his decision to part ways with Notre Dame.

When Hood committed to Notre Dame back in April, most believed that the four-star recruit choose Notre Dame over North Carolina. At the time of his decommitment, news started spreading that Chapel Hill would likely be his landing spot. This all came to fruition earlier today.

"I prayed about it and trusted my gut and realized that North Carolina is the school I want to be at," Hood told CarolinaBlue.com. "It's the right fit for me, it's close to home and my family can see me play. They can see me grow as a player and a persona and that's really important to me.

"My relationship with (wide receivers) Coach (Gunter) Brewer and (head) Coach (Larry) Fedora is hard to match," he added. "They are incredible people and they always stuck by me throughout my recruitment, even after I committed to Notre Dame before. That impressed me."

As a junior, Hood had 278 carries for 3,309 yards and 48 touchdowns.

As a sophomore, he rushed for 1,941 yards and 35 touchdowns.

The commit gives the Tar Heels a potential ‘thunder and lighting’ combination in the same backfield in the years to come with Hood as the big back and last year’s four-star signee T.J. Logan providing the electric speed.

The duo faced off on December 2 in the 3A state title game. Logan rushed for a state-record 510 yards and eight touchdowns in a 64-26 win, while Hood rushed for 152 yards and two touchdowns.

“Its going to be great,” Hood said. “We can be like LenDale White and Reggie Bush when they were at USC.”

Hood had one final thing to say regarding his pledge to North Carolina.

"It feels good to be a Tar Heel and I'm done with this process," Hood said. "I'll hopefully be here as early as January."

247Sports ranks Hood as the No. 76 recruit in the country, the No. 7 running back in the nation and the No. 4 player in North Carolina.

If he makes it to the NFL, will he will only agree to play for the Panthers?

I really hate this argument. He's a 17 or 18 year old kid and he CAN choose where he goes. Obviously if someone said (and maybe Auburn, Miami, or Oregon will...) "We'll give you millions of dollars to play here for a living, that would be one thing. But it's a kid, choosing a school. He doesn't have to be forced into anything.

Millions of kids, especially the non-athletic ones, stay close to home for college. I don't like that we, as a fanbase, always get butthurt when it works against us. That's life/recruiting.

Ring ring,
Goodell
"Hello, this is Commisioner Goodell.
Papa Hood
"Hi Roger, this is Elijah's dad. Listen, I have a problem with not being able to see Elijah play every weekend. That's why I made him de-commit from Notre Dame".
Goodell
"Mr Hood, you do realize that you just screwed your son over don't you? Have you ever considered what a degree from Notre Dame can do for someone? It will give him the opportunity to earn more than his peers and will build a foundation for the rest of his life."
Papa Hood,
"Yeah I've heard all of that before, but this is now and I want to see my boy play in every game."
Goodell,
"Mr Hood you do realize that Notre Dame plays on national television every week don't you?"
Papa Hood
"Yeah but that's not the same".
Goodell
"So Mr. Hood, what exactly can I do for you?"
Papa Hood
"I need for you to make sure Elijah gets drafted by the Carolina Panthers."
dial tone.....Hello? Hello?"

Word.

I would also like to point out the irony of our fans using the "what are you going to do when you go to the NFL?" argument when we are the exact same fanbase that gets butthurt when recruits use "preparing for the NFL" as a basis for choosing a school.

Few things about that article

1) wants to be like White and Bush - slap in the face bringing up USC cheater d-bags that will forever leave a bad taste in the mouths of ND fans. Excuse me while I harrumph in righteous indignation....

2) "grow as a player and a PERSONA" - Fruedian typo there reporter...

3) Is Coach Fedora related to Mr. Hat? I wonder if he does a killer Mr. Garrison (or is it Mrs. now) impersonation to relate to the those crazy kids.

Not saying this means he's wide open but when he was committed to ND wasn't his twitter page all decorated in Irish stuff and his 'about me' talked about going to ND? I know for a fact that he tweeted pro Irish stuff a lot. Since he committed to NC, I don't think he's tweeted about it, nor does he have any NC decorations or anything in his 'about me'

Yeah, because he loved ND. UNC is the "make everyone happy" default crappy choice. Nothing to really be excited about.

He is doing it for family and GF. One thing I learned when I was in college is never to make a decision based on your high school GF. 95% of the time, you will regret it about 3 months into your freshman year.

THIS. Next rule of thumb is never date a freshman girl period. Drama for days.
