It's nice how ND seemingly has his HS as a pipeline and that James O is currently on the roster --- both pluses.

Only downside is if he has a change of heart and pulls a Manti Te'o and decides to blaze his own trail somewhere else.

Interviewed with Bucknuts Radio today:

- Coming out with a list of standouts in the next week or so
- likes ND (and Michigan's) academics
- mentioned academics, campus visit, depth chart, and coaching staff (and how long they've been together) as factors for his decision.

From his criteria for choosing it would seem he's still NDs to lose but Michigan has me nervous right now

Don't lose your balls just because it looks like someone else might be recruiting him well. Especially when we are a couple years off from seeing the kid sign anywhere.

Looks like Michigan is putting on the full court press on Cornell. He's the only guy they've offered at his position and he talks to UM commits '14 & '15 all the time and a couple of the coaches. His interest really increased in Michigan after his last visit getting to know the coaches and players per 247.

Steve Wiltfong
To piggyback off what Tom said, Notre Dame still at the top of the list for Cornell. Yes they will have to battle to land him.

I bet a big pitch against ND is that "everyone" from Cretim goes to ND so why not be different.

Stay the course Jashon!

Allen Trieu over at Scout.com says that Michigan is in a very good spot with Jashon, and that it might actually come down to Michigan and OSU, not Michigan and ND.

Have no idea how accurate that is, but that's what Trieu is reporting FWIW.

I know nothing of scout, but it would make sense to me that a reporter concerened with either Michigan or Ohio State would play something off as "Mich Vs. OSU" every chance they got, whether it was legit or not. In this case, ND is clearly the bigger threat in this recruiting battle, but it sounds better if the OSU-Mich rivalry is played upon.

Pete Sampson has stated so many times he would be shocked if he went else where. Just talking to people around him and James Onwaulua. Him and James are best friends as well. Sure michigan might have the momentum right now. Will be on campus for the USC game

From following Cornell on twitter it definitely seems all michigan there, only thing is his friend is over here. Gotta beat Michigan week 2, shut them up and there perhaps dominant class.

Wiltfong added that ultimately it's a ND vs UM battle and ND got a head start but a long way to go

This has to help Notre Dame's chances....(from ESPN article):

As a seventh-grader in public school, Cornell met Marcus Freeman, the former Notre Dame star as a tight end out of Cretin-Derham Hall. Freeman worked as a long-term substitute teacher in Cornell's English class.

They formed a quick connection.

"We see kids who are big," Freeman said. "Others are athletic. We saw something special in Jashon."

When Cornell moved to private school in eighth grade, Freeman went to work at Cretin-Derham Hall. He's now the dean of students and helps coach under Scanlan.

Freeman said he was right about Cornell from the start. The kid had something special. Credit his mother, Freeman said.

Noticed two things:

1) Kid has good size and moves well.
2) Did anybody even try blocking him? These were very limited obviously but come on SOMEBODY step in front of this kid.

Michigan guests for the game this weekend - Hand, Cornell, Malik McDowell, Justin Hilliard, tyriq thompson,Matt Burrell, Tim Settle. Be nice if one of their guests should have a Steve Elmer moment in the Michigan stands!

Agreed. It is important that ND puts on a good show this weekend and would be even better if we get the win. Cornell is a of great importance to next years class and this game and next years game will factor in his decision.

It's Minnesota HS football. Teams up there simply can't compete with players of Jashon's caliber. Same thing happened with Floyd - he played at a different speed than everyone else on the field.

Surprized CHD could get beaten though, I had always presumed they were a powerhouse up there.

Just curious what you're basing this on?

I strongly believe that UM will be his self proclaimed leader after this visit. All the '14 and '15 kids will be all over him.

Yeah, his recruitment swung away from us in a hurry. Can't really get a read on what the staff is doing with these '15 kids. Minimal offers despites lots of elite kids looking for an ND offer, and far from a full court press on any targets.

I am basing this on how the momentum shift has swung into Michigan's favor in the last couple of months. If we can hand them a loss 3 consecutive years in a row, along James being on the team, it will be a no brainer IMO. I guess saying that losing the game alone would not be the deciding factor but you have to be aware that it makes a lasting impression when you win the games that the kid is visiting for.
