There has only been 3 classes that had vocal leaders with the surge of using social media.
BANG BANG - Tee shepard
2013 - Jaylon Smith
2014 - Elijah Hood

Of those, only one true decommit in Hood, Tee signed, but could not perform due to medical or academic issues, but he never waivered in his commitment to ND. So I dont really agree with the statement that the "vocal recruiters" are the most likely to decommit because only one of three have actually decommitted.

Having said all that, this decommitment hurts. I have said all along that I thought Hoods highlight tape was one of the best I have ever seen. I hope ND continues to recruit him and he ends up with us on NSD.

I believe Darby was a social media recruiter, no?

In the ESPN article about his decommitment: "Hood's father, Vee Hood, told The Charlotte Observer that something happened recently while his son was on an unofficial visit to South Bend, Ind., and that was a big factor in his decision to open things back up."

So is this the story or is the unplanned kid the story? People seem to be accepting the unplanned kid theory ... how confident are we really in that?

Serious question: When was he last on campus?

rumor time: so when he was last on campus did he realize there were no pretty girls?

But we should add instant money into the recruiting equation, by allowing these mature young men (who always think things through before making important decisions) to profit from their signature/likeness....

Yes, because then they can fly their GFs and family members to South Bend.

Sorry if this was already stated, just going through and catching up on posts.

No clue either way...but the visit could be deflecting from the unplanned kid story to avoid some kind of perceived recruiting backlash. The fact that the interwebz insiders weren't aware he even visited in July makes Vee's story somewhat suspect. I thought we were on top of this stuff!

If it's really about family/distance, I'd think we still have a decent shot here. If it's a baby on the way, or whatever may have happened on a visit in July? Not so much.
Either way, it sucks, but at least it's not at a position of big need like defensive tackle, as long as we don't go and lose Folston or something stupid.

Not worried. Win and ND will get who they need. Win. Reminder: When ND wins this year, they'll get who they need. Could still be ND for this young guy as well. Again, not worried. Win and all is well.

I was about to write a response saying how kids who can't make up their mind never turn out anyway, so I would pull the offer and move on. Then I thought Stephon Tuitt and I changed my mind. Keep the door open in case he reevaluates his situation and ND still works for him.

1) was that first point basically said yolo

2) So for arguments sake, if this turns out the direction it's trending and he does have a kid on the way, wouldn't he be taking a logical course of a proper functioning parent\adult as you mentioned? You've outlined great points in regards to important functions of parents, but left out the concept that a parent needs to be present in most cases. He's doing exactly would be necessary and the mature decision if it turns out he does have a kid on the way, and just because the choice means he wont be putting on a gold football helmet does not mean its wrong, and in no way shape or form right to attack the kids parents.

3) this is still up in the air since he's "opening it up", but all indication since the beginning of his recruitment is his parents have pushed for a school close to home...ie he's being linked to unc at the moment, which in no way shape or form a football factory

1) Haha yes that first sentence was a conscious effort to get around writing out YOLO.

2) If that rumor is true, I mostly agree that the logical course would be for him to stay close to home and take care of the kid. My point wasn't that staying home would be irresponsible in this case. It was, if the rumor is true, he should have been more careful so that his actions didn't more or less put him in a position where the only responsible position that he could take would require him to not go to school to far from home (and thus be unable to go to ND which I feel like would have helped develop him more as person).

3) UNC still qualifies for the point I was making, regardless of whether or not it is football-first or basketball-first. The independent studies classes that have been at the center of the recent scandals relating to athletes at UNC where there is no class to attend and the professors give preferential grades to keep athletes qualified (ex. Julius Peppers) falls under the zero education sports factory category in my mind.

The majority of 5 star athletes bring a ton of drama. Hope he excels and makes it to the NFL in three years and has the means to support his child if that is true.

he saw Greg Bryant, and Tarean Folston on the young buck roster, and thought....im gonna be buried on the depth chart.

I wont lie, it would be nice to still have him, but I won't lose sleep over it. doesn't compare to something like losing Danny Spond....ND will survive, and thrive without Hood.

Highly doubt Hood gets buried on any depth chart, anywhere.

Except for the fact that we won a lot last year.... And yet here we are.

Not a big deal. Team is stacked at running back for the next two seasons. Would
much rather have the staff make a push for more "big skill" guys.

Elijah Hood, No. 7 running back recruit, decommits from Notre Dame Fighting Irish - ESPN
He is not coming back.

Hood's father, Vee Hood, told The Charlotte Observer that something happened recently while his son was on an unofficial visit to South Bend, Ind., and that was a big factor in his decision to open things back up.

"Something changed his mind immediately," Vee Hood told The Observer. "He was scared to tell us. I said there's no need to be scared. It's his decision. I told him, 'You've got to be happy wherever you choose to go.I know he's not going to be going to Notre Dame, and I guess that means he's open to (all colleges) again."'

honestly just ready for the season to start....right now could care less.

another good season and the recruiting will take care of itself....on the flip side an average to below average season and it's anyone's guess how the 2014 class will shake out.

Let's just go beat Temple!!
