Visited ND in May. Not entirely sure when he received the ND offer, though, but ESPN’s Jared Shanker and Matt Fortuna both say he has an offer from us.

Between August 2012 and May 2013, during his sophomore year, Froholdt has grown from 6’4” to 6’5” and from 240 to 280 lbs.

High school coach thinks he is best suited to play OT or three-technique DT. He played the TE, DE and punter positions in high school. His visa expired, so he will be spending his junior year in Denmark. Froholdt will move to Copenhagen in the fall where he will be playing for the Søllerød Gold Diggers, a senior league team with players ranging ages 20-40. Hopes to play in the U.S. for his senior year.

He mentioned he’s in no hurry to make a decision and has said that it’s very difficult to differentiate one school from another.

The formatting looks familiar :)

I hope it's true that we offered. This kid is a beast, one of my favorites for this class

He's one of my favorites as well. The whole missing his junior year of HS thing worries me from an academic standpoint but it's good he's been identified so early and can take measures to ensure he's getting whatever he needs to get done in Denmark.

IIRC, Michigan will be a major player here.

Haha. I definitely ripped off the format from one of your profiles. Thanks for that. :) No reason to reinvent the wheel, ya know?

"I will keeping working hard and getting workouts from a strength coach that SGD works with," Froholdt wrote in an email.

The No. 1 player in Ohio has discussed his situation with college coaches, and all of them said they will continue to recruit Froholdt, who plans to return to the United States for his senior season.

He will remain in contact with coaches while in Denmark, but he will do it in a way that won't run up the phone bill on athletic departments nationwide.

"I will email them my progression," he wrote, "just so they know how I'm doing."

A top target for several schools, especially in the Big Ten, Froholdt stated that he does not have any favorite schools yet.

the Gold Diggers are a legit Top team in Europe. Similar situation to Bjoern Werner or Seabass Volmer really where he will develop at a club team before hitting college ranks

Does the whole "recruiting" thing exist over seas outside of basketball and professional soccer?

College FB recruiting can be crazy as we all know. I wonder if this kids head was spinning.

no not really to be honest. college athletics isnt a very big deal in europe. its more about clubs/associations. Kids as young as 7 years old can be signed to soccer clubs, its crazy in its own way i guess!

It doesn't really exist because it's very hard for players overseas to get noticed. That is why almost all of the best international kids come to the states for HS (Bjoern Werner) or Junior College (Jesse Williams). They simply don't get many looks if they stay in their own country. Also, it can be very difficult for them to qualify academically, which is why I said what I did above.

When it happens, they usually have an adult that helps them with the process and they are usually only talking to a handful of schools. You won't find a overseas kid with more than 3-5 offers.

I'm guessing Froholdt's HS coach in the states handled a lot of it for him and guided him through the process. Most European kids are more mature than your typical American HS kid so I doubt his head was spinning any more than a normal HS sophomore going through the process.

I really doubt this. Europeans who are exchange students are more mature, definitely, but it's an unfair comparison. Kids are kids.

It's really not even close. Are there exceptions (i.e. immature European kids/mature American kids)? Absolutely. But in general, what I said is definitely true. I've spent a lot of time around each and there's a noticeable difference.

I don't know... those kids from Middle Earth get a serious ratings bump so I need to see him walk into Mordor before I'd offer.

You can not compare a guy from Spain, Italy or France with a guy from Denmark, Sweden, Norway. We are in the same continent, but it's like compare people from different worlds. Usually, northern people is more mature and polite (and by far) than people from the south. The lifestyle too it's like living in different planets.

i play club football here in Ireland. The level Hjalte will be playing it is about 3 divisions above us on the European stage. We have to win our national competition to compete in Europe. We are fully amateur but teams on the continent are semi pro and will have former NCAA and NFL guys. (I have a buddy who was a fullback for Vienna Vikings and his tailback was Tony Hunt ex Penn State and Philadelphia Eagles) Anyhow Here are some highlights from our 2010 National Championship game win. Feel free to critque and tell us how bad we are and your local JV squad would take us to the cleaners :D

For the most part, the tackles (at least the ones that connect...lots of missed tackles) are technically sound. I bet it's because a lot of them play rugby too.

I wouldnt quite agree, a big issue we have with guys here learning the game is getting them to tackle with their heads up (in rugby you tackle head down with a straight back, you dont bend much at the knees).

The biggest issue is you guys don't have a youth system to teach proper fundamentals from an early age. If you took a bunch of American adults that had never played football before the game would look very similar to your video. There's been a recent push for more youth teams but you're 25+ years behind countries like Germany, France, Austria, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, etc.

It also doesn't help that you're federation is run by a bunch of knuckleheads.

I did see quite a few w/ their heads down. But I guess I meant was, it was great to see them actually wrapping up a player, squaring up, not leading w/ pads, etc.

Seeing as you have first-hand experience with both football and rugby players, what do you think about Hines Ward's comments last year:

In the NFL’s ongoing effort to reduce concussions, former Steelers receiver Hines Ward thinks helmets are doing more harm than good.

Ward said on the Dan Patrick Show that helmets are used more to allow players to deliver big hits than to protect players on the receiving end of big hits, and therefore players would suffer fewer concussions without helmets, as players would stop leading with their heads out of self-preservation.

“If you want to prevent concussions, take the helmet off: Play old-school football with the leather helmets, no facemask,” Ward said. “When you put a helmet on you’re going to use it as a weapon, just like you use shoulder pads as a weapon.”

Ward makes an interesting point, one that has been advocated by others. And it’s worth noting that while football helmets have been worn for decades, they’ve always been designed to protect the skull, not the brain. It’s only been recently that concussions and brain injuries have become the No. 1 point of emphasis in injury prevention in football, and people have begun to ask whether helmets, by allowing players to get into high-speed head-on collisions without cracking their skulls, may actually be encouraging players to play recklessly.

So then the question becomes: Are we willing to accept more skull fractures in exchange for fewer concussions? The NFL would probably say we should accept neither skull fractures nor concussions. Which is why the NFL has focused on ways of preventing concussions that don’t involve removing helmets.

there's alot of debate now in rugby about concussions etc..basically the players now are just too big and powerful to be playing without helmets and hard padding (basically what happened in american football in the 50's)

yep i know there is kitted youth football in germany and austria etc and its something they are trying to develop across europe. there have been alot of **** slinging though between EFAF and IFAF though, its not helping at all.

The latest kick in the teeth here is that ESPN America is no more as they got bought out so we have no live college football, mlb or nhl for the moment and the season is less than 1 month away...simply awful
