What is the "uniform surprise"?

Since everyone else is putting in their thoughts...

1) UTL jerseys at Michigan are one of my favorite alt unis to date. They really need to have a green version of that jersey.

2) I didn't mind last year's SS unis, but the backwards leprechaun drove me nuts. I've since changed my stance and decided that personally I think the helmets should be left alone. I couldn't stand the ones against Maryland either, so they're 0-2 in my book.

3) Agreed with above posts stating to keep the helmets gold, but go nuts with the everything else for one game.

Please, please, please come up with a kelly green version of this:

I found this (from this site) through Google:

I actually really like them.

And as far as undershirts go, I hated the ones they wore for Maryland. When gold clothing doesn't match the gold helmet, it looks horrendous. I wish they'd stop doing that.

Totally agree. Those jerseys were sick.

To edit my gold clothing not matching the helmet comment:

Last year's yellow/gold pants are the exception in my book. I thought that retro color yellow/gold looked awesome. I hope they keep that for the standard unis this year.

My comment was more towards those gold undershirts. I'm just not a fan and think they look weird. I hope they don't go that route again.

I looked at those too. In 1887 those were the **** I'm sure.

Don't know how you would bring it to the modern jersey having to have numbers on the front.

Just do what Wisconsin/Nebraska did for their game. Theirs didn't look good though. I think that ND jersey is awesome but I don't know how you'd get a helmet to look good with it.

That's true. Never crossed my mind. The photo I posted above has a white jersey with white pants that I think looks decent. The "white out" and "black out" unis have been overdone imo though. Would I enjoy it for one game? Sure. But I'd almost rather see a green alternate or some sort of throwback than all white or black. That's just me.

So to sum up: I guess I was completely kidding and not just half kidding. lol

I do like the '38 ones though. I think those can be brought into a modern jersey easy. But ND just did the navy change-ups last year.

We are at the Cowboys stadium, wonder if we do something similar to any of their uniforms?

Wouldn't mind seeing this guy brought out of the 1963-1972 files:

Boooo. I hate modern tweaks on our jerseys. I'm totally cool with the have some fun once a year shamrock series deal and all that jazz, but one of my absolute favorite things about our jerseys is that we don't mess with these modern little gimmicks like piping and different colored shoulders and stripes and junk like that. Take michigan for example. Their classic unis are, well, classic. All the other stuff they do to they're jerseys looks like crap IMO.

I'm not saying I hate how this looks, I just hate that we've done something like this to our otherwise wonderful and absolutely classic college football uniforms. And for those that will tell me that the helmets are a modern gimmick, I think this is different. The helmets had been needing to be more golden for a long time. I would be fine if we altered the shade of blue like we've done in the past, but this is like putting stripes on our helmets. I probably wouldn't hate how it actually looked, but me and almost every other person here would be up in arms for screwing with our perfect, golden helmets.

Historically inaccurate.

In fact, quite the opposite.

Ya boy designed the bottom set. Arm sleeve striping inspiration came from Marquette's baskeball uniforms, which I adore.

Not coming out with a whole set this month like last year but just one uniform. I hope it turns out okay.

Bingo. I really don't know where this whole "It's always been this way" idea came from. ND has had by far the most uniform changes of all blue-blood programs.

*to clarify, my opinion of blue bloods are: ND, scUM, Bama, OSU, U$C, Oklahoma and Nebraska, with Texas and Penn State being debatable either way.

The thing that jumps out to me is that the belt seems to be given a little more space around the waist. Of course most players don't have the waist of a 7-year old and their jersey often covers up that area anyway. But, many of the modern uniforms have looked really silly in that area because you can't see the belts anymore and it makes the whole uniform look like a pajama set. Not unlike the difference between wearing a belt and the sansabelt pants in baseball that were popular in the 1970's and 80's. The latter looks really unprofessional, IMO.

Even in the design sets from Adidas the jersey is just placed over the belt region. Belts need to make a comeback.

They still do.

I think it's either some players aren't wearing the actual blue belt, or Adidas is making some pants with room for belts and some not.
