Brain fart, I was thinking Sean was at the Opening as well.
Anyway, I am coming around to the idea that we really need to take two this year. Even if Golson comes back, I don't like the possibility that we could have only 3 QBs on the roster (if Hendrix leaves).
The fact that ND contacted Brewer shows that there is at least cursory interest in another QB. Although it does seem rather unlikely at this point.
White won MVP at The Opening and was ranked the #1 QB at the Elite 11 which was part of The Opening. I don't think they name a "MVP" for the Elite 11. It's just a ranking. So, you were right, White and Hunter won the same award.
I don't know if I am alone in this idea but I would rather take a second QB this year - prefer White - than bringing back Hendrix. One year of backup or possibly five of a potential starter. Even if Golson comes back I would not be surprised to see him passed on the chart by Zaire.
I would. On what do you base this?
i cant see EG getting welcomed back to the team with open arms by upperclassman/veterans. He will have a steep hill to climb to earn their trust back I reckon. By all accounts Zaire has great leadership skills and is well respected. I could see how coaches might decide to go with him over EG initially.
Maybe. He certainly put them in a tough position. But at the same time, no one understands the pressures of being a student athlete at ND better than his teammates. They may be more inclined to forgive him for cutting corners academically then the general fanbase.
add to the fact that i am sure some of them have really f'd up before...a lot of people around here act like these kids are choir boys because they go to ND...lets be real and know kids do dumb sh#t...regardless of where they go..........
Agreed, if Golson does indeed come back and does indeed workout with George Whitfield over the summer I don't think there is going to be much competition. Will Golson have to work to be the starter of course who doesn't but he's supposed to be back on the team for spring camp. To think that Zaire passes him up in that time period is a little outrageous, IMO.
I think it will all depend on this year while Golson is gone. What if......Tommy gets busted up for a few games and Zaire has to play and shows up like a champion. Stranger things have happened then having a true freshman pass somebody who is not there. It's by no means a given but he could absorb the playbook and be ready for anything at the drop of a hat. This is one of the realities that Golson has to deal with. His COULD get passed up without the competition from high level defenses and constant coaching from ND guys. We won't know for a year but I don't think we should discount anybody from shocking the world and jumping another player or a player absolutely sucking it up. We have got studs everywhere and they will all be pushing for playing time.
I will agree that stranger things have happened, so I get that part of it. However that IF you speak of, is a major IF. I don't want to discount your opinion because we all have our own and thats important. I just think that the odds of Zaire giving Golson an actual QB derby when he comes back is very very low. The staff will undoubtedly talk like it is just like they did two springs ago with Golson and Rees but it never was much of one. And just some food for thought, Zaire will only have one camp (fall camp) without Golson being there. Golson practiced with the team during spring and he'll be back practicing next spring. As being the 3rd team QB Zaire isn't going to be getting a ton of reps during the season. I like Zaire a lot don't get me wrong but where we differ is that I think this is a stretch.
So who is Sean Everett Malik White, anyways?
what has race got to do with this???
