WOOOOOO!!!!! Really serious curriculum. Almost nothing there that could be considered "filler", as is true if most engineering programs. I hope that young Mr. Carter is up for the challenge and applaud him for considering it. This reminded me of the Notre Dame Chemistry gauntlet. I never had a "relaxed" semester.

By the way, any commentary ASSUMING that Lorenzo is not capable of doing this is off-base and clearly a slap based upon no information on the young man at all. Just because a typical SEC jock couldn't handle it doesn't mean Carter can't.

Notre Dame will appeal to Lorenzo because we are a great school with many academic highclass opportunities for a young man of his high level skills.

This has nothing to do with him being black, from sec country, or anything else, but the chances anyone can handle a major like that while being on full scholarship for a major sport like football are incredibly slim. If he tries it best of luck to him regardless of where he goes, but chances are this is not the major he will graduate with.

I doubt he is serious about getting an engineering degree. Just like when recruits say they are serious about academics then go to Bama. Its all just lip service and he will end up majoring in something less demanding

most kids have NO idea what they are getting into with college in terms of classes, work load etc...everyone wants to be xyz but when they realize the amount of effort needed more times than not they will opt for the easier path...certain indvs take it as a challenge BUT i have to agree w/ LoveThee....

example- this is from Hand's profie:
But he does have an idea of the factors that will play a major role in his decision.

“Academics because I want to major in petroleum engineering or engineering period and I want to minor in business,” he said. “A good coaching staff, a great environment, great players and campus life and stuff like that.”

Hand is excited about challenging himself in the classroom in college with engineering.

“I enjoy being innovative and getting down to the nitty gritty of things,” he said. “I just found out about petroleum engineering and it kind of interests me.”

Now he wants to major in sports Marketing...i couldn't tell you how many people i knew who switched majors in college and with being a highly touted recruit i am sure more likely than not an easier major will be selected

Exactly PANDFAN. An engineering major of any kind with a minor in business is a ridiculous amount of work for anyone, especially a kid who has daily practice, weight lifting sessions, etc to do. I'd actually be shocked if a coaching staff even let players try to do it.

Going to be interesting to see how Carter's recruitment goes, I hope we can be a serious player here!

Man if we could land this kid, it would be fantastic! We need quality D-linemen now!!!!! Now I'm officially pissed at myself for posting about recuriting. I made a promise to myself after the whole Vanderturd saga that I wouldn't get involved in this again! Shame on me!!!!!!

He's an OLB not a DL.

• DE Lorenzo Carter (Norcross, Ga./Norcross) moves up four spots to No. 10, but more important earned a fifth star. He becomes the fifth defensive lineman with five-star status

I have to agree with kuehnja, LoveThee, and PANDFAN on this. I knew plenty of aerospace engineers a few years ago that either 1) didn't have a social life or 2) struggled in the classroom because the material is flat *** hard. And these were students with very few non-academic obligations. It would take someone brighter than most ND students to pull off what Carter is proposing.

I just think you're painting too rosy of a picture here. Sure, we don't know what Carter is capable of academically. But the odds are HEAVILY stacked against him. If he does pursue this route, good luck to him; tempering expectations is also okay though.

That is brutal. He could take a lot of those during summer sessions though. That is what I had to do. The hard part will be the 3hr labs for chemistry and physics done. Materials I and II, tough, Dif Eq I and II. Tougher... Thermo and heat transfer..... Cripes.

I don't think it's necessarily an issue of Carter not being smart enough or disciplined enough. It's about time and I don't see any way he will have time for that kind of schedule. He will have to do the papers, projects, and I'm assuming the tests for those classes would be brutal. Unless he can develop a machine that can make time stand still or give more hours to each day, I don't see how it's possible.

Good points, but wouldn't that be the case regardless of his major at ND?

But seriously I know a couple of walk-on players that are engineers. First of all they are insanely smart (better SAT's grades than most ND student admits), secondly they rarely sleep more than 6-7 hours (even weekends). They never almost have free time. And these are guys that rarely play (even in practice). I have a hard time believing more than a handful of people doing it well. The mental strength required to be 'going' 100% of the time and stay motivated academically and athletically would be remarkable. (Not that Carter doesn't have this ability, but I doubt more than a handfull at ND do).

Meh. She looks 15. I'd still hit it though, which is kinda creepy since I just said she looks 15. Birth certificate is what matters though. Wait, what are we talking about? Carter wants to major in sorcery?

Well, I was going to post this:

but I thought it would be too big... and I don't like posting big pictures... I guess I'll make an exception here ;)

Always liked sorcery more than the force but whatever.

In his words: "Florida, Georgia, LSU, Alabama, Oregon, FSU and Notre Dame are leading, I guess. I'm so far from knowing where I'm going so any predictions on where I'm going are just that: predictions."

Was he talking to a ND reporter?

Carter is one of those examples of the Crystal Ball being a joke. He's really given very little indication of where he's leaning yet 100% (35+ people) have predicted Bama.

Yes the fact that there are 35 people picking Bama is a joke because they all just played follow the leader. The initial predictions did have some basis though. People close to Carter have said Bama will be the team to beat with UGA providing the most competition.
