Interesting read for sure, that nobody seems to talk about

Report: Johnny Manziel was briefly suspended by Texas A&M in 2012 | Campus Union - SI.com

The more interesting part of that story is: Manziel was arrested in the Northgate bar district last June for fighting, failing to identify himself and possessing two fake IDs, and as a result the university arbitrarily suspended him for the football season, according to multiple insiders.
Manziel was preparing to transfer to a junior college to play immediately when the suspension was overturned on appeal midway through training camp – and the next day he was named the starting quarterback over Jameill Showers, who intends to play at UTEP this fall.
Multiple insiders said the athletic department had nothing to do with Manziel’s suspension – a suspension overturned by the dean of student life. Manziel went on to star for the 11-2 Aggies during their first season in the Southeastern Conference.
Manziel was arrested in the Northgate bar district last June for fighting, failing to identify himself and possessing two fake IDs, and as a result the university arbitrarily suspended him for the football season It seems like the 1st half explains the 2nd half. There was nothing arbitrary about it.

Sorry bro, but completely disagree with you on this one. I don't know how good of a pro he will be, but to say he isn't special is just flat out wrong. On the football field, the kid was absolutely dynamite this past season. I was skeptical at first, but the Bama game proved me wrong...running, passing, and making big plays against a damn good defense. To beat Bama on the road, as a redshirt freshman? Unreal.

And then the bowl game against Oklahoma...he was friggin' amazing. Couldn't do anything wrong. I don't care how bad Oklahoma was, he made them look like 5th graders.

Now, personally, I can't stand him; I think he's been a whiny, spoiled little douche this off-season and he deserves a giant piece of humble pie. But to say he isn't special...I won't go that far. Kid can ball, and he took a middling Big 12 team and helped turn them into a top 5 team.

How many of his Olinemen went in the draft this year?

Not that I'm disagreeing with you, but let's not make it seem like the Johnny Spoiled show

Manziel's petulant tweet was apparently over a parking ticket:

Yes, before you judge him, walk a day in his shoes-- Heisman trophy, supermodel girlfriend, adulation of millions, and a soon-to-be 1st round draft pick/ multimillionaire.

What a coincidence!

As an aside, does anyone else remember how obnoxious the A&M fans were who came here to rip on Manti's Heisman campaign last year?

Meanwhile, in South Bend, our QB gets caught for cheating on a single test (in a classroom), and is suspended for a semester....

He will put up some impressive numbers again simply due to the system he plays in. His ability to create will help allow that. Still, I don't expect him to be near the player he was last year. Teams will be more prepared for him this time around.

If you watch the Bama game, Saban and Smart had him figured out after the first quarter. The rest of the game he was limited in what he could do. Still won and you tip your cap to that but every team will pull out that Bama game to see what Kirby and Nick did the last three quarters.... and it started with Bama running the ball on offense. Johnny Football can't beat you standing on the sidelines.

Don't get it mixed up. Rumors were that it went deeper than just a single discretion.

Regardless, it's still pretty ludicrous that Johnny foozball is hailed as the king of college football, yet he only takes online classes???

Everett cheats a few times (which I DO NOT condone) and is booted for a semester.

How's that for being "mixed up"?

So now we have EG cheating a few times??? Not meaning to pick and I know we can all glean that EG made a bad academic decision that has cost him at least a semester of school and a season of football. After that, can we leave the totally unsubstantiated rumors with the OP and not continuously quoting it as fact because some guy on IE knows a guy who had him in a class freshman year? At least with regard to a players character, because what inevitably happens is after a couple months we get "he cheated on a few tests," which I am sure no one is prepared to confirm.

People say Everett must have cheated at least twice because of something in DuLac saying the second offense will result in a suspension

It could mean this no doubt, or the offense in question could have been determined to be "flagrant." Other than some hearsay, I have not heard anything definitive from either of the parties that would know for sure. I think it unnecessary for anyone to say... it's a pattern, it happened three times, five times, two times.

If I recall correctly, several insiders confirmed that this wasn't Golson's first offense. I appreciate your reluctance to jump to negative conclusions, but this isn't baseless speculation.

Don't know if this was posted or not, but just looked at Johnny's rivals page, and saw that he got a 1550 on his SAT. A 1550 on the SAT is equivelent to a 35 on the ACT, a 35! Thought that was interesting.

Is that 1550 on the reading and math section or the whole three section test?

Yea, I was going to say there is a big difference between 1550/1600 and 1550/2400 and JM doesn't seem like the smartest guy around

I thought that score sounded weird, I just looked up SAT and ACT scores equivalents and clicked on the first one. That 2400 scoring system sounds right cause I originally thought a 1550 was low. I am not as familiar with the SAT as the ACT.

I think it's safe to say it's out of 2400. If he had a near perfect SAT, I'm sure announcers would have made a big deal about it all season.

SAT 2400

SAT 2400

The SAT moved to a 2400 point scale in the spring of 2005. Johnny's score is out of 2400, so not so good.

I can see how this kid draws some negative light on him for his off the field antics, but I feel the hate is over done.

On the field, he is probably the most exciting player in College Football. Off the field, he is a punk kid. He is stupid kid who makes stupid decisions like many of us at that age only he is under an entirely different microscope. I get that he is probably frustrated and could want some time out of the light. He isn't the only QB around with a hot girlfriend and the fact that he goes to class is great for the SEC.

Who cares if he doesn't turn out in the NFL? He's probably going to be a Vick like QB who excites early on and doesn't do much later. Seattle has a QB about his frame who can get it done without the foot speed.

Anyways, I just think people need to lay off him some. He's not on the schedule and still an exciting player to watch.

Full Disclosure: I paid an arm and a leg for BAMA/A&M tickets this year. Excited.

Last year he was one of the more exciting players in recent cfb, no question.

His "Poor me" act compounded with other off the field stuff makes me seriously dislike him.

I think that's fair.

No problem with the disagreement but to me he is a product of a Kevin Sumlin offense. He had a very good year but in terms of his abilities, they don't blow me away. I'm sure I come off as a hater but I don't really care. I broke down his statistics and just not as sold as others.

Do you think Case Keenum would have had that year at A&M?

And by going to class you mean sitting in front of his computer with pajamas on, right? Even the SEC wouldn't tout this kind of education. They may 'play school' in the SEC, but at least most of them actually have to get out of bed to attend class.

He seems like the kind of kid that had everything given to him as a kid and didn't really have to work for anything. I would think that would only set him up for failure later in life

He works damn hard to be the QB he is today.

Rushing wise no but his passing numbers are ridiculous.

In 2011 his numbers were:

428 - 603 for 5,631 yards 48 TDs and 5 INT and added 3 rushing TD.

I haven't seen a qb who can scramble like that and I think the passing numbers are only going to be higher this year. This isn't a Texas Tech QB putting up numbers here. This guy can play. He's also a punk kid. But the endless crap on him is entirely overdone.

kid reminds me of Rory McIlroy, when he was starting his run you could not help but root for the guy but the trappings of success seem to have made him bitter and unlikeable.

Kid doesn't bother me as much as he does others. He's like 20 years old so being a punk isn't surprising. Shoot, I'm a punk. lol

I just don't believe in his talent like some do. Nothing more, nothing less.

And if he wins the Heisman again and sets all sorts of records then good for him. Nothing personal.

To be fair, I think that was against a lot of Conference USA competition. (But then again, he was using Conference USA receivers...)
