This is a young man that our coaches have seen fit to offer a scholarship to play football for the University of Notre Dame. All the comments about his appearance are unnecessary and irrelevant. He is the number 1 rated kicker in the country. We tend to overlook the importance of field position and the kicker/punter's role in shortening the field for our offense and lengthening the field for our defense. With Brindza's tenure limited it is vital that we have a stable of dependable kickers/punters ready to step in when he leaves. Can we get some information on his punting, field goal percentage, or kick-off distance and get away from the comments about his appearance?
Why didn't you post the stats instead of being so harsh? I found them and posted them in less time then it took you to compose your tirade.
No one's posted was mean spirited, none were malicious. Ht and Wt are measureables just like 40s, yards per carry, or hang time. The kid, and his photo from whatever year clearly shows the face of a youth, is a string bean. Look at the Kohl's video. Scott has a slender frame. Check his neck, calves, and arms, biceps and forearms. He obviously appears more like a basketball player than a football player.
If he was a WR or QB people would make the same type of posts. No doubt he can put on some weight particularly if he's 16 instead of 18. But we don't know his age, do we. There's only the very young looking photo.
From the Kohl's data he wasn't the #1 kicker but he was among the better kickers in the 2012 and 2013 info they linked. He doesn't appear to be at Brinzda's level at the same point in his career but he's a viable prospect. Brinzda averaged 48 ypp in HS.
I do have concern about his 6' 5" height. That's a lot of leg to whip and a lot of stride. The longer lever gives him more leverage for his kicks but it also takes him closer to the LOS and those unrushing defenders. There have been some tall kickers but I remember more Reggie Ho and more Garo Yepremian types.
