seems like he was very naive. calling out a coaching staff for not accepting your commitment isnt really a wise move. Its a poker game and hes shown his hand way too early.

he said, in the wake of the EG development, that he was trying to track down a ND coach to offer his commitment.

Brandon Dawkins @TheRealBDawks

Trying to get coach on the phone to commit to #NDnation! I am trying to be a part of the program. Hoping I can get a hold of coach soon!
4:09 AM - 26 May 2013

this tweet from him isn't calling out a coach....calling him out would be in a negative way and this is not in the least

Right, I saw his original tweet but thought more most have come out. I definitely wouldn't consider that "calling out a coach" either.

It makes perfect sense to me that a QB would want to go to a school where there's a sparse depth chart. It's not like othe positions where multiple kids play.

However, unless you are just conpletely sure that you want to play QB, It also makes sense to me to commit to a school that is going to move you to your best position if the coaches dont think you can cut it as a QB. Dawkins needs to read the tea leaves and look at his offer sheet.

Current Rankings:

247: :s::s::s: #12 DTQB #NR OVR (89 Rating)
Rivals: :s::s::s: #14 DTQB #NR OVR (5.7 Rating)
ESPN: :s::s::s::s: #16 QB (80 Rating)
Scout: :s::s::s::s: #17 QB
247Comp: :s::s::s: #9 DTQB #321 OVR (.8888 Rating)

He is not the messiah.

Depends what that means. Is he a program-transforming athlete like RGIII? Probably not. Could he conceivably lead us to a national championship? Maybe; why not? Those rankings are pretty comparable to Golson's. Zaire was somewhat higher rated, but he was nobody's 5-star. And Dawkins was the ONLY 2014 QB to have an Irish offer before Kiel departed. That says a lot to me about what the staff thinks of him.

I think if you look at those three guys you can say that, in addition to going after top-rated guys like Kiel, this staff has developed a pattern of going after QBs who they feel provide the right fit and have the right skill set, without necessarily being highly ranked. And Everett was developing into a winning QB. We saw some growing pains but we also saw flashes of brilliance that showed what he was becoming.

Unless the staff has cooled on him, I am definitely NOT in favor of holding off on accepting Dawkins's commitment. We need QBs right now. We could conceivably have only one QB on scholarship in 2014 (Zaire, a RS frosh). If the staff thinks Dawkins can be even a solid player, then I see no reason to turn him away. Take Dawkins and then keep trying for Allen or another top QB.

Seems a little bottom feederish to go bananas over ND the minute after the starting quarterback is academically ineligible. How sticky is this commit if Golson is back for 2014 - 2015?

He's been thinking of committing for a while, before the Golson news. Offer isn't commitable though.

Oh really? I thought it was. Ignore my post above then. It was based on the assumption that Dawkins was the only QB who had an offer from us before Kiel transferred; if the offer isn't committable, then it's basically no offer at all. SMH at myself for writing long posts that are way off-base.

Committable or not, looks like a vulture the way he jumps on the Golson news. How sticky is that commitment if this is the deciding factor?

That's what I assume from what guys like Wiltfong have said. Wiltfong said ND was not at all prepared to take a QB before Gunner transferred meaning Dawkins offer wasn't commitable then. And the fact that his commitment has not been made official now to me means it still isn't commitable.

I don't think u read the first part of my post, he was thinking of trying to commit before the Golson news. Unless USC offers he would be a solid commit.

Except EG had offers from all over not just ND and Utah ... Im not itching for his commitment but I do see your point about the the offer before Kiel

Anyone else like him a lot more than Kizer despite Kizer's better offer list? Dawkins just looks like a more natural QB on tape. He kinda reminds me of Hundley from UCLA.

Dawkins spoke w/ Martin and the Irish remain in good standing even though it sounds like they are going to let things play out per Wiltfong

ND staff will meet soon and decide whether they want to take one or two QBs this cycle. If one, they will wait for Allen and/or other top targets to decide before they will consider Dawkins. If two, the door would be open for Dawkins to commit. per Wiltfong.

Thanks for the updates. I'd rep you but my smart phone isn't smart enough.

I like him because he wants to be here. And he wants to be here even if we bring in a blue chip QB like Allen to compete.

I just like Kizer. Good kid. Know some of his family. Know the Central Coach. Know his best friends family. Everything I have heard places him as a ND kind of kid. All that being said I like Dawkins, too.

Tom Loy mentioned today that after Allen's visit if we don't think we're going to be getting him, he believes Kizer is next in line. I really like Kizer, all his film has been impressive. I think Dawkins is the perfect #2 QB to take this year. It will give him time to develop which is something he needs.

QBs are stacked there, Cam Cameron and Les Miles went there to evaluate their QB targets

did not realize they're allowed there...is that part of the new recruiting guidelines?

I didn't realize that as well. Interesting.

This is the last Elite 11 regional so you have guys from around the country traveling to earn their spot in the finals (e.g. Dawkins).

What shocked me even more was that this is taking place at Ohio State. Can't believe that's allowed -- they are getting a major advantage from this.

Rivals Challenge in Chicago is working well for ND. A surprisingly low amount of kids visiting OSU actually

Would make sense because osu just has qb's and they are only recruiting a couple. Rivals challenge is for everyone.
