I'm sort of surprised...but, good for you...
Of course your other athletic teams have had plenty of them...

As college athletics go, UCLA's number of JC players over the years has been VERY low...but of course, not zero...

OTOH, Jackie Robinson started at a JC before coming to UCLA...
I can't believe Notre Dame, if they had the chance, would have turned him down...

Also, I will admit, you did some fine research in the hour or so everyone was waiting for your response or you know your Bruin Football.

I was at lunch!

There are dozens of you guys here and one of me...I cannot instantly respond to every question, argument, allegation, assertion...
I do have other things to do...

I DO know UCLA sports well...
I am a 40 year plus season ticket holder for both Football and Basketball...
MAYBE missed 10 Football games in 42 years...made up for it with dozens of trips to away games...

You're acting like we are saying there is something wrong with JUCO guys as persons. The point the entire time has been that to qualify to get into Notre Dame as a transfer or as a JUCO grad is extremely hard and rare. You need to satisfy a large and varied core at ND and that simply does not go with the territory with JUCO guys.

Edit: hard and rare unless you went to Holy Cross

ND went 22-4-1 during that period.....UCLA went 12-14-5

You needed him more than we did. Consider it a gift

I don't know about you guys, but this Steve guy seems alright in my book! He's under fire and stays cool, calm, and collected. I must say he knows his stuff about his Bruins.

You went back 6, no, actually at least 7, years and came up with the names of 5 actually recruited scholarship JC kids--less than one per year...

Ekbatani was actually a qualifier out of high school, attended JC for other reasons and was on the UCLA team for four years...

The four other actual scholarship UCLA JC players over the past decade or so (Cid, Cheachir, Craft and Bell), were emergency pick-ups who were needed to fill depleted ranks at QB and OL due to an unreal string of injuries...

Lol, well, this just makes Whiskey's point! We have had zero Juco players over that same period (I believe we've had one scholarship juco player in our history, and it was in the 80s). When we were devastated by injuries or depth issues, we were unable to go to juco for emergency help. We therefore have a very great need to plan our recruiting classes carefully and a very great need to be able to rely on the fact that the kids we sign will actually enroll, and we really don't want to set a bad precedent by releasing EV from his LOI. All the rest of this is beside the point in this thread.

Not to make this thread about UCLA (lets be honest though we don't know much more than we did 3 days ago about EV) but with USC trending down and that horrible coach of theirs and the recruiting UCLA has done of late tells me they are about to be the powerhouse in SOCAL. Maybe for the next decade. Sprinkle in Oregons problems and you have a pretty easy path to success. I think it will be UCLA, AZ and Wash rising to the top in that conference.

Well except for the fact that he tried to sideways put some of our most respected posters down with incorrect info. Yeah, he is alright, reading those same posters tear his comments apart has been much better than all of IE arguing with IrishPat and the continually, "hold him to his LOI," "what are his options" posts for 20 pages.

So in that regard he has been pleasant, but just like the last 20 pages he will pass and ND football will still not be accepting JC players and be recruiting Cali kids who fall in love with the university and become model students and men.

I had to edit twice because I'm suppose to be working. I don't know if I'll be more pissed about EV getting me fired or not showing up in June.

They can't recruit for ****. Last years class was HORRIBLE

Last years class was down but mainly due to the previous year 2012 they loaded up on studs at almost every position including the ones we say are so important D and O line. Standford might not be winning a natty every year but they are definitely going to relevant in the PAC-12

The OP was basing his predictions on the fall of USC and Oregon's troubles. I would think that could lend itself to better recruiting. They did get to where the were with a few good classes and a absolutely stud in Luck but their recruiting has never been stellar, I will agree there.

However, they do recruit players that fit what they want to do very very well. I feel like they have fewer misses, but with their recruiting class they have a much smaller margin for error. Can there streak of hits continue? See below.

Na, they gotta fall back to reality soon.

Still, if USC and Oregon take some blows, Mora heads back to NFL like expected, You really don't think Stanford can compete in the West with Cal, Washington, Arizona?

They have some big big boys upfront on the o line and they got a very very good runnning back in Sanders Jr. I don't see them being a cake walk anytime soon.

Stanford has long-term issues recruiting...
Admittedly, it is even tougher to get recruits admitted there than to UCLA...
Stanford maintains the toughest standards for admission of recruits of any school in the country...
Hence, they end up passing on a LOT of potential recruits...

They had a pretty good streak going with Harbaugh as coach...Harbaugh was a very impressive and charismatic guy...The new coach, Shaw, has been riding a bit on Harbaugh's coat tails...but things are working well for him...Chip Kelly leaving Oregon helps him a bit with the Northern Division (though, in the North, you are still working a bit against Oregon's Nike money!)...Washington is a team most of us discount a bit...because Sarkissian isn't all that good a coach...Oregon State has the better coach, but has trouble attracting talent...

Colorado? They can ONLY go up...
But they have a long way to go up just to get into NEXT-TO-LAST...
Not only are they BAD, their recruiting classes have been laughable...

The way I look at this whole situation is the only thing we are losing if Eddie leaves is his signature on a piece of paper. The kid is a five star, highly rated recruit, but has never dressed in THE uniform yet. We are basing emotions of what could be. I would be more peeved by losing him if he had been great and then decided to leave (ala that guy). I will miss the potential greatness he could provide to the Irish, but I wish him the best on whatever endeavor he pursues. In closing, who gets his scholarship opening next year? Maybe someone better.

Stanford? "HORRIBLE"?

Only to a casual observer.

They finished #63 on Rivals because they only took 12 recruits. Their average star rating was 3.33 which ranked them #17 on that basis, behind UGA, A&M, MIA, and So Car and ahead of UW, Clem, OREGON, VT, UTN, OU, and the Huskers. They were in good company.
