Vanderdoes will never play for Notre Dame. As a coach you work your *** off building team chemistry. You want your players to have each other's back during times of adversity. Does anyone really think the Notre Dame team could trust Vanderdoes to have their back? Would the university want 4 or 5 more years of dealing with Vanderdoes's parents? I think not. Good-bye and good riddance.

The only issue to be resolved is whether or not Vanderdoes is going to face the consequences of transferring, because that's what it really is. There are rules that everyone is expected to follow. You sign with one team and you are expected to live up to your commitment. If you bail out of your commitment, you are supposed to lose a year of eligibility as the consequence. It's time for the Vanderdoes family to follow the same rules as everyone else and accept the consequence for their indecisiveness.

Coaches could put an end to this load of **** by refusing to offer scholarships to the offending players until the intent of the rule is enforced. It will never happen, but that's the way it should be.

End of rant.

If he bites the bullet and shows up for camp, I bet he'll stick around. He picked ND for a reason. We just need a chance to remind him why.
Until Bruin Steve's arrival, I was avoiding posts on the Vanderdoes thread. The conjecture and hazarded opinions just weren't going anywhere. The clever, informative retorts by Whiskeyjack and IrishLax have given the LOI controversy a wholesome debate. It has certainly gotten my attention. Keep up the respectful repartee!

To further the point, what teams, Steve , make up the bulk of their roster from JUCO's and transfers anyway? Yeah, I'll bet ucla builds their roster mainly through high school recruiting....just like every other team in the country. JUCO's and transfers don't have the amount of bodies necessary anyway to fill up rosters for D-I teams. Plus, would you rather, long term, have a kid for 4-5 years that's all yours, or a kid for 1-2 (maybe 3) years that you have to integrate into your system and style? That's why schools don't have 50 kids on their roster who were transfers or JUCO's.

Please exclude a K-state reference in a response-- I'm well aware Snyder went out and signed a bunch that one year. But so do lots of coaches when they take over a team and/or a roster is in turmoil. It's a quick fix though. They don't sustain the practice.

Is this a repeat of the Greg Olsen situation?

Is this a repeat of the Greg Olsen situation?

Greg Olsen was on campus prior to his freshman year @ ND and left before classes started - in time to enroll before classes at Miami. Is it safe to assume that Tyrone chose not to block his request to leave (as Chris was also leaving for UVA at the same time)? I don't recall Greg losing a year of eligibility while sitting out as a freshman at Miami. His Miami bio indicates he redshirted but it seems he was on the scout team and an injury forced that redshirt. Is Eddie V. hoping to join the 7th floor crew on the west coast?

If he does show up, not allowing him to play would guarantee his transfer at the end of the season. Like another poster said, there is a reason EV committed to ND. If he does show up weather he is is being strong armed or not, I say let him play, let him feel the atmosphere and build the comradory. If after all that he still wants to go to UCLA, then we don't want him anyways.
