Well there are high profile transfers every year. But it seems we have a 5* recruit transfer every off season. That's not normal.

true but ND isn't like everywhere....hard work on field, in classroom...easier to not be playing but not having to also bust ur @ss and feeling like you are fighting an uphill battle the whole time when you have been at the top for so long......it's what separates the men from the boys

Except it is normal. It happens to every school - for example, see USC, Florida and Florida State for examples.

I think the issue for ND fans: we went a long time with not bringing this type of talent in. But with top talent, transfers happen.

Quick question, do you think the recent string of commits not honoring a scholarship has more to do with the coaching staff or the society we live in today that makes these kids think they don't have to honor a commitment?

I honestly think its an issue of society changing over the years and our way of pampering our kids too much. This is a much more different world than when I was growing up. But hey, that's just my opinion. I think kids nowadays have a higher sense of entitlement and they are coddled way too much.

There are tweets, message board, posts, and blogs parsing the rumors.

Allegedly he filed an appeal with the NCAA to void his LOI but I can't find a cite. Finding a cite on any of this is difficult. A Sacramento Bee blogger listed a quote from the father that the issue is not academics. The HS coach chimed in with his academics are OK for Placer HS and the NCAA (which may only mean he as a HS diploma and a GPA/Test score which meet NCAA minimums).

Next step NCAA decision. Once the NCAA denies his appeal to release him from his LOI. Reality will set in. Smoke will clear. Choices other than honoring his commitment - formalized and signed by him in his LOI - do not look as "appealing." It will be interesting to see what happens then. No predictions.

This is where I am at honestly. I think there is a real possibility that they have thought this whole time they will be able to get out of the LOI and he will be able to go elsewhere. Have they really considered the harsh reality of the alternative at this point? Surely it has been communicated to them but my guess is they thought it would never get to that (that being choosing between sucking it up and going to ND or sitting out a year and losing a year of eligibility).

Maybe he is just so pissed that it doesn't matter. Hopefully the drama ends soon.

Agreed. Unless there is something serious here, no way the NCAA can approve his request. It would open the flood gates for the future. I'm sure the NCAA would like to avoid that...

Does anyone know why they're so pissed? I can't even begin to speculate what could've happened that caused him and his family to be this upset. Sure the NSD fiasco could've rubbed them the wrong way, but it seemed like an honest mistake on ND's part. Not to mention it was a long time ago. I'm wondering what's happened since then.

From what I understand he loses a year of eligibility as well so he would have 3 years to play 3 years.

From my understanding he loses a year of eligibility as well so he would have 3 years to play 3 years.

Theres a ton of talent coming in 3 weeks to add to our talented roster. No sense in posing the stuff i have read in this thread bc whats the point of it? You guys trying to make yourselfs go crazy over something that is out of your control and you dont know the details of? We got a great staff and great kids, comin off a 12-1 year, dont let a 18yr old distract you from what is abt to happen this yr.

Sure, but if you learned anything from the BCSNCG is that if you are not strong and able up front, you do not stand a chance with the big boys. The Alabama game exposed the chasm in talent with the top tier of the SEC, and situations like this, where you're bleeding recruits and signed talent, is not good for your depth and program. Sure, EV does not make or break a recruiting class, but the overall issue is being able to continue to sign and retain these athletes, and then develop them to their maximum potential. The gap isn't closing, especially when you consider the talent that SEC schools have and continue to stockpile. If you want to realistically compete with the big boys, you have to sign and keep athletes like this.

Right, but those were all addressed during his recruitment. I'm not sure why the sudden backlash from EV/family.

Those two examples are actually pros, imo. He can play DE (which is what he wanted) as well as learn the interior (who wouldn't want to expand their game?). And there's PLENTY of PT for a kid like him along our DL. Neither of those warrant a freak out. But that's just me.

Does not change the fact that he doesn't want to be in South Bend......you, me, the coaching staff cannot change that fact!!! I wish to hell people would stop bitching about this and gry over it......the staff does the best job possible, and there's no denying that fact. If a kid doesn't want to be Irish, its his decision. He signed his LOI, therefore he pays the consequences, end of story, period....

1. We were star struck and got rattled when two horrendous calls went against us.
2. We were not as big or physical as Alabama, BUT...our technique was the problem. I remember watching Greg Lloyd get demolished by the cowboys ol in the Super Bowl. Was the Eric Williams that much more dominant? No....Lloyd was star struck while Williams had been in his third Super Bowl. We got ran over from the neck up IN THE FIRST HALF. We played even the second half.
3. Our depth was a bigger issue than the size of players on our roster. Especially on the OL.

Call me cooky, but if we stay healthy, we can win it all this year.

Seriously? "bleeding recruits and signed talent"? The coaching staff has put together back-back-to-back Top 20 recruiting classes, including 2 in the Top 10, and we are "bleeding" recruits? I'll take that situation all day, every day!

Like I tried to explain before...and got hammered for questioning BK...Maybe BK and the staff sold him on something and then couldn't deliver? If it's so asinine to think it's about grades or the signing day deal...then what is it?


Unless UCLA is telling him something he wants to hear...that's another can of worms
