F this shits. Why is drama becoming the norm with ND recruits?

People have been calling for exceptions to get Elite Talent into ND...Kids defecting is one of the negatives of exceptions. NOT speaking of EV directly. But you bend the rules, and you take to consequences of not having a kid that has the drive/motivation/will to succeed at ND. You take that chance that the kid will adapt, but you run the risk that he wont. Once again NOT speaking about EV but to your question.

ND is different. Thats what makes it so damn special.

As soon as I come on and see a top recruit has the most recent post, I know something is terribly wrong. My stomach drops every damn time.

The whole coaching staff should be outside his house right now. Jaylon Smith could be there too

I would agree, but I've been here long enough to know better. It is what it is! I will say that if we do lose him it would hurt our future depth big time. I really like this kid but things do happen and you have to understand that things change especially when you're dealing with 17-18 year old KIDS. I've been nosing around for years and have seen alot of major disappointments. I'm just praying EV sticks. He very well might be that glue to a recruiting class that truly jumps this team to the next level to success. I'm saying he is a key ingredient to our success in getting past the SEC to win our NCG. We need him and guys like him to get past the likes of the Alabamas.

Hope it works out-enjoyed having this young man sign his LOI, but would really love seeing him on the D-line destroying opposing offenses.

EV-ur wanted here!

This has nothing to Do with Notre Dame but he could start right now at Ucla as one of their top Ends went down. It looks like Kylie Fitts will start as a freshman.

He has to sit out a year. That is non-negotiable UNLESS Notre Dame lets him out of his LOI, which they would be stupid to do.

Notre Dame should not let any recruit out of his LOI unless a change in family circumstances such as a serious illness establishes the recruit should be closer to home. Once a recruit signs a LOI, Notre Dame is committed and is relying on the recruit to honor his commitment. Signing a LOI actually has to mean something or the insanity of college football recruiting will get much, much worse. Tampering will become widespread because signing the LOI will become meaningless. The recruit is free to choose whatever option he decides he wants - after he complies with the requirements the NCAA imposes on him because he voluntarily signed a LOI.

If the recruit decides ulitmately he does not want to be at Notre Dame, the issue of which schools Notre Dame will not contest a transfer to is an entirely separate issue. I would be amazed if any recruit who signed a 2013 LOI to enroll at Notre Dame is playing college football at any FBS college or university other than Notre Dame in 2013 unless there are exceptional family circumstances justifying releasing him from his LOI.

I would be embarrassed if ND denied a student/athlete's right to transfer (right to get out of their LOI).

Which school they transfer to and preventing the player from going to competitor, sure-but to keep him to his LOI and prevent him from playing period-not good IMO.

I should not have to explain MO as they seem obvious, but guaranteed somebody is going to cry foul.

No one gets let out if an LOI unless there are extreme circumstances. The only one I can remember is Seantrel Henderson when USC got hit with the sanctions. It is an unwritten law that you don't let kids out of them because it is a very slippery slope.

i guess this is the risk you take when you aim high. its gotta be like this, you can't win a NC with a bunch of chicagoland kids from catholic schools.

I feel we're being Anzalone'd. I hope I'm wrong.

Probably somewhere more along the lines of Lynch'd or Tee'd. Or maybe just Nix'd or Ishaq'd and he gets through his misgivings. Unclear which. Let's be patient, yes?

Also, as VMGSF said, there's a big difference between letting him out of his LOI and letting him transfer.

The LOI is essentially a one-year contract to attend a school. He signed his in February. We shouldn't let him out of that, or the whole recruiting process becomes meaningless.

But once he's sat out a year, if he hasn't changed his mind (or resolved whatever other issue there might be), we absolutely should let him transfer. Maybe not to a future opponent like USC. But UCLA, sure. Very uncool not to, and it helps no one.

Either way, by all accounts young Eddie has long been a class act and a high-character kid. Can we cut him a little slack and see what happens? It's his life.

Why embarrassed? ND invested in a scholarship in a kid and filled a spot they could have taken someone else with. A 1 year penalty is suffice imo.

Regardless if he comes to ND I will always be expecting him to leave if some adversity hits.

But you wouldn't be embarrassed lining up with me for the earlybird special, me with my Golden Buckeye card, at the local Bob Evans?

And not just that. Historically we've had challenges keeping kids from Florida and California. It's weather, culture, distance, good options back home. Unfortunately, as someone pointed out, it's hard to win a national championship with a team full of nice Catholic HS grads from Chicagoland. Hope this works out.

Nix is probably the only person that could convince him that if you stick it out, it will be worth it given what he went through his Freshman year and questioning his decision. I don't think anything the coaches or Jaylon would say would make much difference at this point.

Nix has an engaging personality and is someone who Eddie looks up to. Hopefully he can get him to see that he went through similar feelings, stuck it out, and it was the best decision he ever made. Nix is our best hope.

Really? So because Notre Dame is "Notre Dame" that doesnt give them the rights that any other university has? Look man i respect your opinion but i strongly disagree with this. Why is it ok for florida state to hold a kid and force him to honor his LOI but its so wrong for ND to do it?

At ND, we guarantee the player a 4-year scholarship, regardless of production, injury, or depth chart issues.

ND owes it to itself to at least make a player who signs their lOI to sit out a year to respect what we offer.
