Who is lighting it up that we have lost?

Seriously?

They haven't been able to play. You know that. But are you going to sit here and act like losing Lynch, Devonte, Tee, Greenberry (sorry but I count it when it's a five star WR that goes to a conference USA team on signing day), Kiel, and now EV hasn't hurt the overall athleticism of the team? I call that being stubborn.
I'm not saying our coaching staff isn't doing a great job, because I think a lot of these kids would've never even considered us beforehand and the team is obviously working it's way up to being a dominant force, but if you can't admit these losses haven't stung/slowed-down the process then you're either stupid/stubborn or just trying to be argumentative with me.

Besides being premature, your question is nonsensical. There is a big difference between how a kid does at ND, with this coaching staff, versus how he would do at another school. I don't know how well Lynch would've done here last year, but something tells me he would've been a decent contributor on 3rd downs. (I know, I know, "He didn't play assignment football", "he was a liability on running plays". Sorry, but that sounds like sour grapes to me. We were all singing his praises before he transferred and it looks as though his athleticism hasn't gone unnoticed judging from his appearance in multiple first-round draft boards.)

Shrug...he is a 17 or 18 year old kid who is graduating hs, going to his prom and in two months will be halfway around the country from home. It happens, i'm not worried.

I'm siding with this as well. I remember when I was graduating high school and prom season. I didn't want to leave or didn't want anyone to go.

Guess i'm stupid..

"They haven't been able to play"...check..so..not lighting it up....have not proved a thing

"Slowed down the process" Ummm. i think we were in the NC game last year, if my feeble mind remebers correctly.

Team chemistry is more important than "stars" any day of the week

“@SacBee_JoeD: I did get this from Vanderdoes family: grades, eligibility or conduct/character "is not and has never been an issue."”

This is the guy you're gonna want to follow for info

So how far do we take it under your logic? At what point are "stars" important? What about if Cierre decided he wanted to be with his little girl? What if Golson didn't want to redshirt and leaves for the ACC? How about if Tuitt missed his girlfriend in Georgia and left?

Would I be allowed to admit that those losses "stung"? Or am I still not allowed to say that they were good players that I'm going to miss because they hurt team chemistry?

I'm not saying the sky is falling and that this team is not good. I'm saying exactly what I said in my first post on the matter, we are hemorrhaging top-flight recruits at a rate of 1-2 a year. That hurts any team, and I hope we are able to stop the pattern.

I wish every 5 star loved ND and had the grades, but that is not reality. We got 3 other 5 star s coming in if star ratings are most important to you. I will go out on a limb and say there will be 3 others in the class overachieve them.

I thought the sky was falling when lynch left but I learned we are much bigger than that. Kelly and staff have developed a culture here and we will be competing for the title every year. Go Irish!!!

I hate to comment when a situation is in flux, but I guess I'll try to make a couple of points:
1.) I am hoping this is just a case of nerves and doubt which can be very natural at this crossroads in life. Hopefully Eddie will face this and get on the plane. If he does and comes with the mindset to make the best of things I feel very confident that he will realize that by choosing the road less travelled, it will make all the difference.
2.) I am curious how, short of an admission, does one prove tampering, and who would have to report suspicion? Has it ever been proven? What were the consequences? How long did it take to rap that up?
3.) Finally, I think it would be wise to limit the talk of consequences to Eddie, although there may be some, if he opts to not report. Like I said his feelings are probably pretty normal for a lot of graduating seniors and he is part of OUR team and OUR Irish Family, until he isn't.

No need to get your thong in a wad.

No..

..and?

How many other teams made it?

I'll take the high road and avoid the smart *** comments.

The gap between ND and a championship is still sizable, as evidenced by the NC game. We need to continue upgrading the talent on the team, especially on the D-line. This is especially important, as it's possible that both Tuitt and Nix will leave after this season.

Stars absolutely do matter in college football. You have to be blind to not see the correlation between recruiting and on-field success.

Additionally, I think that it's premature and unfair to suggest that EV would disrupt team chemistry. He's still trying to figure out his future, and I understand that it's more difficult for some. Let's see what happens before we start attacking his character.

The problem with your argument is that when these guys have left us we haven't been able to fill that spot with anyone. It would be different if the situation was one in which we were choosing between a more-talented-less-committed-headcase-player and a less-talented-more-committed-ND-man. But we aren't choosing. These guys had one of 85 scholarships available to the team and when they leave it kills our depth. See the national championship game
