ND & Michigan done after 2014

I'm pretty sure they ended the series first right? We just accelerated it.

To my knowledge, Swarbrick notified Michigan as soon as we beat them last year (might have been right before the game, not sure) we were ending the series of a rolling contract ( renewed in 2007) with 3-year prior notice opt out clause.

Brandon said that ND ended the series not Michigan and that it was a surprise.

I have also seen an uncited source that said the 2007 contract renewal was never signed and they both agreed to play each other under mutual agreement.

IDK.

Who gives a sh!t what Fred Flin....I mean Brady Hoke says. He could have said "mmm aaahh, half off, mmm aaaah, cheeseburgers, mmmm aaaahhh, at McDonalds!" and those fans would have given him raging round of applause, they are scUM fans!!

Notre Dame doesn't schedule MAC teams and Division II teams. We regularly play 8-9 Bowl Qualifying Division I teams per year. So who's "chickening out"? Hoke ought to show a little more respect and class. He is quickly realizing that ND has a national recruiting strategy, and its a strategy that doesn't benefit from playing all its games in the midwest. Play for Notre Dame and you can play all over the country, and no matter where you live your parents will be able to see you play somewhere near home. And that doesn't even include TV coverage. Michigan's a regional team. There's no upside to keeping them on the schedule when we can regularly play FSU, Virginia Tech, Miami, Southern Cal, etc. East Coast, West Coast, Gulf Coast. We got the nation covered.

From September of last year after the Michigan game
Notre Dame Fighting Irish opts out of series against Michigan Wolverines - ESPN
Notre Dame and Michigan announced this summer that a two-year break is coming in the 2018 and 2019 campaigns, but that they intended to resume the series in the years following.

"Our contract with Michigan has an automatic rollover provision -- with a year being added each time a game is played," Notre Dame senior associate athletics director John Heisler said in a statement. "We needed to avoid the automatic addition of additional games until we can get a better understanding of our available inventory in those years -- an understanding that will develop as we implement our five-game scheduling commitment to the Atlantic Coast Conference."

Swarbrick handed Brandon the letter before last years game and Brandon did not read it till the next day.... Who knows.... who cares....Looks like Swarbrick got the jump on them. Hoke is just pissed his SOS just got worse.

How are they "chickening out" when it's been said that they want to continue the series at a later date? And for that matter, FSU and Clemson are definitely better than scUM, so we're not exactly dodging competition. F*ck scUM and f*ck that Fred Flintstone-looking fat twat. This would be one of my favorite rivalries if scUM wasn't so convinced they were the greatest team in the country.

State fans suddenly feel more important now that they are the #2 rival.

If Minnesota kept Glen Mason, who knows....they could be #2 now.

They were a pain in my *** from 2003-2006.

Wait, what??

ND dropped MSU also???

I missed that... anyone?

They aren't on 2014 or 2015 schedule, and with Big Ten moving to 9 game conference schedule I think anything 2016+ is very up in the air at best. Tentatively, they were schedule to be on the schedule from 2016-2019 but I don't thin kthat will happen.

From my understanding we have a contract with MSU until 2032 with four games on (home/away) and 2 years off. That will start in 2016. We have a two year break in 2014 and 2015. That has not changed with the ACC scheduling.

It almost certainly will though. Look at what's happening with Purdue struggling to keep us on the schedule with the move to the 9 game conference schedule. It's very doubtful that with 9 games stone cold (USC, Stanford, Navy, Shamrock Series, 5 ACC) that we will be able to keep any Big Ten teams... I know we'd probably like to keep 1 or 2 (MSU/Purdue) and maybe we will but it doesn't look promising. At minimum, it becomes a crazy difficult balancing act to coordinate our schedule with when MSU/Purdue have their 5 away game seasons.

I know you have the history of the 66 game and all that... but if it comes down to it (one or the other) I think you have to keep Purdue if it's a choice...

as much history and in state... I guess the case the other way is recruiting Michigan but yeah...

We don't play them every year though now... I am SO GLAD the UM game is over with... it's been such a wacky series with so much on the line every year it seems...

the years we have won i never feel fully statisfied as they are typically the years we are underdogs and honestly not the better overall team... or we win so ugly it's more of a frustrating win than anything... last season and 05 are good examples of that...

OR...

We are the ones with the better team on paper and they beat us...

It seemed like such a bassackwards series going all the way back to the 1980s... I'm glad it's over.

Notre Dame doesn't schedule MAC teams and FBS teams.

Every team Notre Dame plays is an FBS team. They have played MAC teams before, and when Temple was scheduled I assume they were a MAC team.

Also, I kind of find it funny for years, Big 10 fans have been saying that their teams should all drop ND because they won't join the Big 10, and then when ND drops them its, "how could they do this to us?"

Hate to break it to you bud, but MSU is your biggest rival. OSU has owned your asses except with the blip of 2011, and I don't expect that the change. MSU has beaten you, what, 5 out of the last 6 years or something?

Doesn't matter what is said. What matters is who wins the remaining games. Hokes braying means he's excited to play us. I'm excited too.

Isn't that the truth. With the topsy turvy world of conferences and schools changing every five minutes I don't think anyone knows 100% what their schedules will look like after the current season.

Okay Gary Moeller. That's what he suggested when Michigan went 5-0-1 against ohio in the 90s. I miss good ol' Cooper. 10-2-1 was the most fun I had in a long time.

The only dominance they had was when the village idiot was coaching here for those 3 agonizing years. Lloyd vs vest were all close games save 2004 which still makes me scratch my head to this day.

Rivalries have trends. Look no further than yourselves. You had the little streak from 1987-1990 that made me want to blow my brains out and then Michigan returned the favor from 2006-2011 taking 5 of 6.

If anything, the B1G is going back to the trend of old with the Big 2 and Little 10....or in this case the Big 2 and little 12.

Playtime is over with state. Just look at the way recruiting is going. Hoke owns this state, he flipped two of their guys to commit here (who both had ohio offers, one who flipped from ohio to Michigan).

And with that meat grinder of a division coming next year? state doesn't have a prayer. Peds State is barely suffering from the NCAA sanctions, Michigan is Michigan, ohio has urbz and Rutgers is not that bad of a team. They could possibly do some damage in this crap conference.
