Yay! Another thread filled with 40 yd dash talk....awesome. What that saying about a dead horse?

But what about his bench press (cone drill time, GPA, foreign language credit, etc) ? That's what I am worried about.

damn, Beau, you beat me to the ban. Maybe I can ban the inevitable follow up account he'll create.

I didn't even make it a permanent ban. Am I being too nice by giving him a 1 month timeout?

probably, but I doubt he'll come back in a month anyway. if he does, it will take about 3 minutes to get himself permanently banned.

Yes. His sole reason for coming here was to **** people off.

I got the feeling immediately that he was actually here to discuss recruiting, but with the demeanor he would use on 11Warriors. That **** won't fly here.

I actually like alternative viewpoints and info from the "other sides," but I regard 11Warriors in particular to be about as douchey as it gets.

Deleting 11WBuckeye's recent posts. Banned him for being a disrespectful jackass.

Wow color me surprised!

Anyone know why the distance 40 yards was chosen? It was the net of a good punt or quick kick. Coaches wanted to find the player that could reverse this field change, on the ground, as quickly as possible. They wanted a 40 yard man.

(Psst, historically it goes back to the day before the forward pass was as prevalent.

As far as Mr. Andrews,

Can he catch as well as it looks on film?

Can he block (particularly down field.)

Are his measurables accurate?

If these are all yes, ND could sure use him.

Over the next couple of years with Heurman, Smythe, Robinson, etc you are going to see big bodies all over the place.

According to his coach (who also seems to really like ND) he ran a 4.7 40 (electronic not hand time) recently and is up to 235 lbs.

He also likened Allen to AJ McCarron

Drake Harris just ran a 4.7 electronic 40. Andrews has almost 50 pounds on Harris

When are people going to realize that these 4.3 and 4.4 forty times are mostly BS. I love how sophomores in HS runs a 4.4 but after get stronger, quicker and faster in college to go along with better technique yet at the NFL combine they are still running a 4.4 or a 4.5.

4.7 electronic is about 4.55 to 4.59 hand.

anymore with these inflated/fake 40s I don't mind seeing a 4.7 laser timed 40 from a kid going into his sr year.

They're not BS. They're one of many attributes you use to evaluate a player. Speaking for WRs, other things include size, vertical, hands, blocking ability, route running, strength, etc. All things equal, the 4.4 guy beats the 4.5 guy every time. Speed CAN kill.

Mike Wallace is an above average WR if you take away his straight line speed. However, given his elite speed, he's a top 10 receiver and is paid accordingly. He creates space for everyone else on offense because no matter if he's thrown to or not, the safeties have to pay special attention to him every play.

I think he means the times they list are BS....or guys inflating their 40 times to look faster than what they really are

That's definitely true, I read that wrong. It's incredibly rare for the 'measurables' of these kids to be accurate. I wish there was a combine ran like the NFL combine for all prospects to go to before their senior year. That'd be very interesting.

The single best thing about The Opening is that they have all the kids run 40s under the same conditions... so even if the times are off, you know how someone stacks up relative to other players in their position group. And that's all that really matters.

This is exactly right. If 1 guy is saying he runs a 4.3 and another saying he runs a 4.5 and the 4.5 guy beats the 4.3 guy at The Opening, then you get a better idea of who is inflating their 40 time and who is not. And even if it wasn't an intentional inflation (i.e. hand-timed vs electronic timed), you still get a good picture of who is the fastest with all conditions being equal.

I get your point but as a steelers fan Mike Wallace is not an above average wide receiver without his speed/athleticism (assuming you mean among starters because if you mean all the ones in the nfl then all starters are above average). He doesn't have good hands when considering elite/even good receivers and he wouldn't be a Wes Welker or maybe even a Bess if he lost his speed since he's not big either. He's a very good wide receiver but without his speed he isn't above average.

But since Andrews is 6'5 and over 220 he can definitely be very effective even if he isn't the fastest WR. Look at the Pitt receiver (Shanahan?) who is likely less athletic than Andrews but still very productive.

That is the best way to judge these guys.
