So basically all that happened was:
Weishar-NW
Helm-Michigan
Bunting-ND

Went to:
Weishar-ND
Helm-Tenn
Bunting-Michigan

I guess I missed the commercial for today's episode of Wife Swap: TE Edition.

The real question is who was the first domino that set the others in motion?

Not to be down on any (potential) future member of our Irish, but I don't understand taking a non-elite TE this early in the cycle in a down year for TE's when we've already got Niklas, Koyack, Welch, and Heuerman, and Smythe coming in. How much TE depth do we need?

I don't think anyone could strongly disagree with your opinion.

For those wondering, Helm was the higher rated on Scout and Rivals. Weishar was the higher rated on 24/7.

Not sure if you have seen his offer list but...

Seems to me that, with Koyack playing so much slot this spring, we are fast becoming a two-TE team, with the second TE replacing the Davonte Neal-type slot. This guy is a PERFECT "big slot" (a term I just invented). Or "flex TE" if you like. He kind of reminds me of Eifert in high school (I know, not fair to compare him)

I noticed he's born on September 19, 1994... meaning by the time he'll wear the irish uniform, he'll almost be 20 years old

just find that interesting... was he held back two years or something? or started a year late and was held back a year?

Remember Tyler Eifert was a 3* and turned out to be a great player. Welcome Nic! Kelly and company must see something in him that they love so I am excited he is Irish!

This kid is elite - check his offer list. Was offered very early by ND and was identified as a target they would take whenever he was ready to pop.

If he is truely only 200 pounds, I think it's 50/50 for if he is a TE or WR.

On the flip side though Schultz favors Stanford and we could certainly lose out on Luatua. Then where do you turn? At least he can be a big bodied receiver after adding a few lbs. if Luatua chooses the blue and gold. Solid pickup although its not going to be one that shows for a few months.

Luatua is being recruited as either a LB, DE, or TE.

I agree with this. He brings quality depth to a postion that like Emcee pointed out has become crucial in our offense.

he's a high school JR. 3 of the sites list him above 210, he has plenty of time to fill out before he sees the field for ND.

He's a jr in high school. He could easily be 230+ by time he sets foot on campus.

Oh yeah for sure, but lets say he peaks at 220. I wouldn't mind having a two 6'5"' receivers on the field at the same (Nic and Corey).

some ppl on either the rivals or 247 staff like Lutua as a DOG more than as a TE, maybe the staff does too. We could use an elite DOG prospect in this cycle

I think TE has been so important the last couple years because the talent has dictated it. We've had great players at TE (I don't need to list them), and the coaches have taken advantage.

I'm not going to criticize Kelly, Martin, etc. because it's completely up to them. It just seems like we have enough depth at the position, and it's not completely necessary to even take a single TE this year.
