A bit surprised by the position, but glad to see the offer go out. Thought he could be a really good TE, but if he has the frame for DL, he'll be a handful to pass over.

I think this kid is underrated as a :s::s::s:

He plays with good pad level for a 6'8'' kid and I was shocked by how athletic he is. Don't think he is a DE at a high level D1 but I think this kid could end up as a beast TE.

Still don't know if I think we should offer because there are other TEs who are definitely more talented but I could see this kid tearing up at Stanford.

Right on the money with that one....

At the very least, knowing they offered him as a DE, this can keep Luatua interested.

I don't think Lutua would be scared off or concerned with us offering anyone at any position, much less Nelson

I can't speak one way or the other on it and more or less agree with your side but still can't hurt.

Hopefully he becomes this guy:

Yes I stereotyped and tried to find a white defensive end

Nelson's got a 3 inches on JJ Watt. Margus Hunt was the best I could think of that's north of 6'6. I see your point though

I like that comparison. I'll take Margus Hunt! He destroyed Fresno State during the Hawaii bowl. I had no idea who he was until I watched that game.

Mike McGlinchey, Corey Robinson, and this kid get off a bus. What sport are we playing again????

I can only imagine what all these guys are going to look like in 2 years. Absolutely monstrous young men we are looking at, and versatile athletes to boot.

Tate Nichols got HUGE during his couple years in the program. It is a shame he could stay healthy, because he was a MonStar.

So I guess we're not done at DE? I thought we were looking for DT's now with Hayes and Trumbetti on board already.

From everything I have seen we are looking for 1 NG and 1 other guy, who is either at swing NG/DE or DE with flexibility to move.

Is he looking to play the process out or is he looking to commit when it feels right?

I am surprised he got an offer, I wouldn't think he would get an offer unless we missed on some bigger fish. But I guess if the staff wants him then we should all want him

This is the kind of kid who ends up at Stanford with no fanfare and 3 years later you're going "who the hell is this 6'8" ginger MANBEAST dominating everyone in his path???"

If the staff likes his upside on the DL... well, let's see what happens.

Jake Brown from II, said that the staff is wondering if they can get him up to 300lbs or Tuitt size.

Thats a little big IMO, Margus Hunt is 275 FWIW. Springmann is sub 300 I believe (listed at 300 but said he isn't that much IIRC)

I believe that we can all let our uninformed speculations have a rest here. The staff just personally evaluated this fellow. They were assessing a whole bunch of things which we have no clue about. They know that OT, TE, and DE are possibilities and the staff picked DE over TE and OT. Hedging bets, Kelly probably explained what being recruited to "Power" means. We'll see if the young man liked what he heard.

I mention this only because a few people are dissing someone who Kelly thinks can play for Notre Dame [and could probably break them in half as well]. Some "cautious honest inquiries and concerns" on our parts are in the spirit of IE. Excess dissing of active recruits is a bonehead play no matter how you cut it. Are we loyally with this staff or not?

275 at 6'8" is nothing. That's basically what lebron james is. Hunt can play at that weight because he has world class strength, but there's even talk about Hunt being unable to play 3-4 end in the pros bcuz of his size. 300 sounds about right for a run/pass threat at 6'8".

When a 6'8" dude gets his hands up in the passing lane, what exactly is a QB supposed to do?
Though, frankly, I also wonder how a barely 6-foot QB is supposed to throw over those towering o-linemen we recruited last year.
Basically I'm just floored at how tall the kids today are.

Remember, it seems like you can subtract anywhere from one half to 2 inches off most recruits "stated height"

yeah that's pretty much just the same size as one of the most freakishly built athletes ever no big deal

Iowa, Iowa state, Nebraska, and Standford are the competition. Wants to make a decision at least before season is over. IMO, he does it this summer. He made a point to tell II he wants to commit to the school he likes before spots fill up. Standford likes him at OLB, us DE for now, and everybody else TE.
