Gruden made the point about learning from mistakes. He didn't comment on the DC being had by the OC.
Yep. I don't think anyone learned more that night than Bob Diaco. The good thing is that he's coming back haha

When you are playing Chess with just pawns you have limited options

as we have seen though Diaco is still an apprentice.
No disrespect to the ND defense of 2012 but they were outmatched in the NC.
Exactly. The comments immediately made me think of the 2010 Navy game, too. Diaco is a great guy and coach, but certainly has a ways to go.
Well, the nice thing about it is that Diaco has displayed quite an ability to adapt and to learn from his mistakes. Compare the Navy 2010 result to the 2011 and 2012 games. He is relatively young and inexperienced, but I do think he has great ability and I'm as excited to watch him progress as I am the players we have on defense.
If we should happen to meet Alabama again in post-season play, I'd be confident that we'd make a much better showing of it, even with the loss of a great player in the middle of the defense (just trying to keep it tied in to the thread topic: Manti).
Agreed.
He is not the wizard we thought he was though. He is learning. While he wasn't the A+ DC we wanted to believe, I'd still give him an A-, easily. He will be a boss in short time, if not starting in 2013.
Nobody talks about Nick Saban at Toledo or Michigan State, you do have to learn a bit before you're the man.
I have never, for a moment, thought that Diaco was a defensive wizard. What he seems like to me is a good defensive mind, with an increidble and infectuous passion for the game, an intense work-ethic, and a real attention to details and fundamentals. He has brought our defense a long way, but I never expect him to out-scheme anyone. He seems to do the exact opposite.

That said, Nick Saban--who is a defensive wizard--would not have won the NC against ND, if you switched the rosters. Our secondary inexpereinced and paper thin, our overall defensive depth was 2nd tier, and our DLine was hobbled. Alabama's offense was a machine once McCarron got the passing game going. We were not going to stop it with what we had: an excellent bend-don't-break defense that was punctuated with a few real stars and really capitalized on mistakes.
My read on Diaco is that he is 100% about fundamentals and will force any team to nickel and dime you down the field, which is very difficulty to actually do. It's very effective. His game plans have been a B+ grade, from my view, but his halftime adjustments are an A. Yes, we didn't like the second half of the Champs Sports Bowl, but I've seen a dozen games in which a team is having success exploiting X and the defense completely takes it away in the second half. I think he's an A- defensive coordinator. Nick Saban is an A++.
Manti Te'o says one game shouldn't define his draft stock
Good for Manti in sticking up for himself.
I want to tell everyone telling me every day that he will flop in the NFL to eat crow SO BAD.
Manti Te’o: The Alabama Game Doesn’t Define My Career
Un******* believable. I'm only posting this b/c it's the offseason. But what a bunch of morons. They seriously think he wouldn't start for 6 teams in the SEC.
I wouldn't pay much attention to the fan base that inspired Cletus Spuckler.
will wear #51 for the Bolts
Anyone order a Chargers Te'o jersey yet?

Having my powder blue (waddup Philly) Tomlinson jersey restitched to a Manti one. It's cheaper
