His teammate, Kyle Berger, committed to Ohio State today.

I hope Jimmy Bryne has totally shut down recruiting. Urban has a way of prying kids away.

Somehow I worry less about OL recruits. They seem, in the few short years that I've now followed/obsessed over recruiting, to commit early and stick, Urban notwithstanding.

Were you around for Chris Little?

Haha, nah, 2007 is old school for me as far as Notre Dame recruiting drama goes :) I just started grad school here in 2011.

Although, now that I'm thinking about it, I forget about Taylor Decker. To Ohio State. I was definitely here for that.

Ahem.

I go to school with him. Word on the street is that he's very solid to ND. Nothing groundbreaking, just thought I'd offer a source on the ground.

He kind of got eaten alive there. He's carrying extra wait. Wait until Longo gets a hold of him.

Welp.

Cavenas goes to Mahanoy Area, a town over from me. Actually the MAJOR rival of the school I substitute at, Shenandoah Valley. Very big kid, very physical in basketball. All things I have heard/seen for football is he can get soft at times despite playing in a small school league. Should be interesting to see how his senior year goes.

These drills are kind of stupid in my opinion. Really tough to get a read on kids in a one on one pass rush situation w/out at least helmet/shoulder pads. Get a good look at athleticism, but that isn't everything for o-lineman, definitely favors the d-line.

^This. Plus it's hard to read when a guy goes inside if he just might be washed and passed on to a guard or the center. Certainly favors the defense, but you can tell who has heavy feet and who is more agile.

Also keep in mind that Byrne is going to be on the interior so a kick step and playing in space will not be something he does at ND. Combine that with how tough it is for Olineman during these drills and I was happy with it. Not sure exactly how it works but I have heard scouts mention that if the Olineman wins half the reps its good.

Kuehnja, you have to be one of the most stubborn SOBs I know. What do you gain by trying to convince people Byrne isn't worthy of an offer?

Byrne looked fine in that clip to me. Example: one interior rush was "guided" well past the orange towel QB target. I thought only one incident might have been a DLine win. It would have been more definitive if we could see their feet all through the exercise.

Once again, unnecessary negativism based on no adequate data.

Byrne looked like he was a few reps away from getting into a fisticuffs with that last guy he went against. He smacked him in the head a few times.

Regarding the video, I didn't say anything bad about Byrne, I only provided the profiles of his competition, so I'm really not sure what you're talking about.

But since you bring it up, yes, it is my opinion that Byrne is going to have a tough time at ND. Can I have my opinion or do I have to love every commit and be convinced they're going to be solid players? Lol.

IIRC, Jake's low opinion of Byrne originated with this photo:

A single unflattering picture (in which Hayes is standing on his tip toes). He certainly doesn't look soft to me:

The "eaten alive" comment and the "welp" were about all you needed to say to sound negative.

You're allowed to have your opinion, but everybody already knows your stance on Byrne.

I didn't say anything negative about him, just pointing out what everyone will see when they see the video. Was I wrong? Besides the time he held, he barely got a paw on two, unranked players with a combined two offers. I understand this drill is easier for the DL, but he looked outmatched.

You like him, I don't. Let's just leave it at that.
