Michigan has one of the most, if no THE most beautiful stadiums in the country. Their colors are vibrant, and you can imagine what 115,000+ looks like. They're also shown that the student-centric atmosphere is #1 on the priority list with the videos they play and the pom's handed out at every big home game. Really wish we'd make some progressive changes to our stadium. Not saying it's why Michigan is so successful in recruiting, but that stadium REALLY helps. If I didn't hate them, it'd be my #1 stadium I'd want to see.

I think part of it is Michigan is "cool" right now. one thing I have noticed, Denard Robinson seems to be one of the features of their tour every time someone big visits.

Their stadium is across the street form a high school. And most of the town is decked out right now because their basketball team is still in the mix. Don't get me wrong, I am bias, but their campus isn't that nice. The stadium is about all they have that special.

About the fans... There's a reason why Michiganders have the saying "Walmart wolverines" most Michigan fans are people that are lower class blue collar people. It's hard to explain in words so here's a video...

I went to the first night game two years ago, and despite the outcome, the experience was unreal. I think it certainly beats our stadium atmosphere (having a 35000 size student body helps too).

I think you nailed one big part of it. The town. AA is a pretty sweet place and the town is very supportive of the team. It's clean and safe for the most part. South Bend is getting better, particularly the addition of Eddy Commons, but it has a long way to go to be anything like AA. That being said there are MANY college towns that are much better than AA IMO.

While NDs campus is hands down one of the nicest I have been on, UM is not that bad. The thing that sells quite well is Ann Arbor itself. Its a beautiful area.
