the story:
Finestpreps.com was the FIRST to break the news about Pitt running back Rushel Shell’s possible transfer out of the University of Pittsburgh. The story is still not set in stone but here is what we know from multiple inside Pitt sources
Pitt fans have not had very much to celebrate for the past few years with the Panthers football program, but fans could see the silver lining when the Panthers hired Head Coach Paul Chryst, who is set on restoring the Panthers back to former glory. After breaking news last night that star running back Rushel Shell is set to transfer out of Pitt, that silver lining seems to be fading.
This all started when Shell had multiple disagreements with Head Coach Paul Chryst and his staff. Shell has said that apparently Chryst and his staff possibly have been talking about the players behind their backs. It all seems like things escalated very quickly and came out of no where, but it looks looks like Shell might just be as good as gone.
We were contacted by some of our Inside Pitt sources yesterday night about the news. Shell did not practice yesterday supposedly because of an “Excused absence” but in actuality Shell came to the UPMC facility and asked for his transfer papers, then proceeded to get on the Pitt players shuttle bus and go back to his dorm. Later that night, Shell addressed some of his teammates regarding his situation. As of last night Shell is set to transfer to a school in either California or Arizona.
Another source we spoke to last night, spoke to Shell’s family and said that Arizona State could possibly be the program to land Shell. As we all know Arizona State is coached by former Pitt Head Coach Todd Graham. Graham was the coach that recruited Shell to Pitt so this might not come as a surprise that ASU is a top potential team. Shell also stated that teams like USC, UCLA, California and Arizona are also in the mix the land the highly touted running back.
Shell is having a sit down meeting with Head Coach Paul Chryst sometime today regarding his possible transfer. If Shell does actually transfer the Panthers would seem to be a bit thin in the running back department as Isaac Bennett and Malcolm Crockett would take most of the carries.
