Just offering a different option, but it could be that his parents have only talked to Fedora and the UNC staff because they have gone with him to campus. The whole, "making his parents a priority," I think was just hyperbole added by the writer. They like the NC staff because they met them, and are unsure about the ND staff because they haven't. These kids all have cell phones so it automatically removes the parents from the line of communication, unless the coach asks specifically to put the parents on the phone.

This all could be far fetched and more likely that they just want him to stay close to home so they have no desire to invest time in getting to know the ND coaches.

Reading between the lines, it kinda seems like our staff isn't pushing for him. We don't need more than one RB in this class, and maybe we're waiting to see where we end up with Starks or other targets? Or maybe just planning to wow Hood and the fam on the visit. Or I could just be misinterpreting ... but if so it's strange our staff hasn't developed a relationship.
I believe Elston is Hood's lead recruiter. The late, successful recruitment of Bryant, Redfield, Folston, and Vanderdoes has me thinking the staff can be patient, and wait for an exceptional RB in this class. I think Hood, and his parents, are feeling more enthusiasm from North Carolina and the other programs recruiting him. This fall, Notre Dame should have a great deal of success running the ball. The staff can afford to be selective with a recruit that wants to run behind a dominant, smash mouth offensive line.

I don't think we are slow playing him though. Even if you don't believe his parents were the ones that told him not to commit, BK did give him the personal tour of ND and the staff is agressively working on a date to get him back on campus. Both Hood and Starks are not strictly RBs, they can play defense as well. To say they are "holding out for better RBs" is a little far fetched IMO. These two guys are elite athletes.

You are right, until this article it never seemed to me that we were slow-playing him. The other possibilities (parents don't want to speak to ND, or just haven't had a chance) seem more likely to me, based on what we've heard about ND/Hood contact up to this point.

As for Hood, I just don't really understand what's happening. It makes no sense that we haven't even talked to his parents... and it's really not plausible that if our coaches had tried to that they would say "no" and be rude. People don't do that... unless you really hate/dislike the person, in which case I reallllllllly doubt they would've sent Elijah on a trip.

My theory? ND thought they had this completely locked up. And now they don't. So they're going to have to try harder. A lot harder. To this point, they obviously have not been going balls to the wall. At the same time, if they have a really good feeling about Starks they might only want to take 1 guy. Completely different players and I would want both, but with tight numbers and the RB haul next year who knows. A lot of people said initially that we might completely pass on RB in this cycle... and the only thing that has changed that is the quality of guys we are in on.

Update from Elijad on BGI. He said that people who are claiming that his parents don't want him to go to Notre Dame are "ridiculous." His parents have actually been in contact with the staff but they want to meet the staff in person. We still lead and he is setting up a visit for April.

very confusing, but i guess from the horse's mouth is a good thing

Both were quotes straight from Hood.

I think in the last update when he said something like "my parents haven't even talked to Notre Dame" in person should have been added to the end of that.

how do we know he didn't word it like that? a good reporter uses pepper editingofwoes in order to create buzz and attention. they don't stay in business without Web hits.

And this is why we shouldn't make dumb assumptions about parents...

Not being a sm@rat@ss but is that good?

It's pretty good, not elite but good, he wouldn't have earned the invite if his SPARQ Rating wasn't good. The top performers at the SPARQ Combine at The Opening last year had around a 140-155 Rating

Sounds like someone who is tired of answering the same questions again and again and again and again..... and then having people twist his words on top of that.
