i'll prolly take some heat, but in all honesty i'm over this kid already. would be great to get him, but we are loaded at RB and can focus on other positions of need should he decide to go elsewhere

I hear that and kind of agree with that, especially if we get Starks. I still think this kid ends up at LB in college and I would love for him to be a LB at Notre Dame.

I truly can't believe the negativity on this board about a kid who has consistently listed ND as his number 1. Especially after he has gushed about other schools after visiting them.

Its a marathon, folks.

per UNC guy at 24 7

Things looked to sway UNC's way per 2 sources and Elijah is now favoring UNC. Parents want him close to home!

Let the kid go to the school he wants assuming it is Notre Dame and he will pay for your plane tickets to go see him play every NFL game after being drafted in the first round.....duh/gosh.

(I will not acknowledge decommit Gio)

I could see us developing a pretty nice rivalry with North Carolina in the near future.

Both on and off the field.

Not going to lie. i hated losing him but looks like it worked out which is OK in my book. Glad he made a choice that worked for him. Now if Hood could choose ND and be the same...

If the family only wants to make a 3 hour drive or so maybe it's time they move to Muncie, Indiana. :)

We've got a rising football program out in Parker City that I coach for. Elijah could sure as heck be a part of our team. haha

It is a long time til signing day.

We are looking for a different caliber of recruit, than we may have been during the Willingham years, (kidding!)

The kids in this pool of recruiting talent are going to be a little more like Keil (higher frequency) where they jockey for position, and less frequently like Bryant, where they love the challenge of competition.

We can talk running back, and sign this guy and that, but everything related to the signed running backs in the Class of '14 will be dictated by a few events that take place. Will GAIII and CMcD have breakout years? Will Amir have a good year as a (2nd RB)? Will ND have a couple of 1000 yard rushers? What will ND do with it's offensive configurations? What will be the overall success of ND's offense? (Another low powered or low scoring affair would not bode well.) How will the underclassmen on the roster shake out? And finally, will ND continue rolling along?

I think it is a bit naive to expect a lot of top talent, other than the guys that just plain want to go to your school, to commit, before they have a lot of these questions answered. We talk about how good of a talent developer Kelly and staff are, so we are at an awkward stage; people see how full the roster is with capable performers, but we only have one full year of big time wins in over 20.

And, for better or worse, Kelly hasn't won like Meyer. So we don't quite have the siren's call that a Michigan, Ohio State, Florida, and Bama have. A good example of the veracity of my claim is SC; even with last year's dumpster fire and Numbnuts Kiffin, they are still bringing in some top talent like it is automatic.

With there past success it will take a few more years of bull shiit to cut off that flow. Heck fire, after getting screwed, blued, and tattooed, Kyle Fitts still wanted to go there until the last minute! How many of us shook our heads at anybody that wanted to go to SC in this last class? And how many of us see how full things seem to be getting at ND? This revolution in the program is going to have some growing pains, and I believe we will see them in recruiting. The good news is we have one of the best player developers in the country!

There is not a lot to disagree with here. I really think we are gonna have to wait for the long haul this year for several reasons, most of which are stated above. Kelly has stated several times he is styling his team after a top tier SEC Team. He went so far as to mention Alabama fielding 11 starters on Special Teams during the NCG, which I am assuming we did not. He wants an SEC defense and is close there too. Put that with his offense and when it all comes together, ....... look out.

ND has not fielded a "complete" team since the Holtz era (which I was later schooled on Vinny Cerrato's influence there). We are at that precipice this year.

I think we get there this year.

Previously, special teams at ND has been dominated by players at or near the bottom of the depth chart, or freshmen. There was a celebrated case of a really good player who lost a year of eligibility for playing on special teams as a freshman, but I cannot remember who, for the life of me.

Last year Kelly lamented twice, and actually got a little militant, about the fact that special teams was being manned by walk ons and that something was wrong when freshman wouldn't even take the spots!

Anyone able to read the update from Sapp?

*Notre Dame is still his leader
*He's leaving it like that for now
*He's not committing soon
*His parents are involved but not influencing him
*He'll decide in the summer

He wanted to commit to ND but his parents told him to hold off.

Parents have a great relationship with the UNC staff and haven't ever talked to the ND staff

Welp.

Reading between the lines, it kinda seems like our staff isn't pushing for him. We don't need more than one RB in this class, and maybe we're waiting to see where we end up with Starks or other targets? Or maybe just planning to wow Hood and the fam on the visit. Or I could just be misinterpreting ... but if so it's strange our staff hasn't developed a relationship.

Tom Loy of UNC 247, who spoke with Hood last night, just posted some additional thoughts on Hood on BGI:

he gets the feeling that Hood favors ND, but his parents don't.

Doesn't understand why parents haven't spoken to ND coaches; he wondered if the issue is that the parents DON'T WANT to speak to ND coaches.

He emphasized that Hood could easily have said that he doesn't have a leader, but he was adamant that ND remains in the lead.
