It is a long time til signing day.
We are looking for a different caliber of recruit, than we may have been during the Willingham years, (kidding!)
The kids in this pool of recruiting talent are going to be a little more like Keil (higher frequency) where they jockey for position, and less frequently like Bryant, where they love the challenge of competition.
We can talk running back, and sign this guy and that, but everything related to the signed running backs in the Class of '14 will be dictated by a few events that take place. Will GAIII and CMcD have breakout years? Will Amir have a good year as a (2nd RB)? Will ND have a couple of 1000 yard rushers? What will ND do with it's offensive configurations? What will be the overall success of ND's offense? (Another low powered or low scoring affair would not bode well.) How will the underclassmen on the roster shake out? And finally, will ND continue rolling along?
I think it is a bit naive to expect a lot of top talent, other than the guys that just plain want to go to your school, to commit, before they have a lot of these questions answered. We talk about how good of a talent developer Kelly and staff are, so we are at an awkward stage; people see how full the roster is with capable performers, but we only have one full year of big time wins in over 20.
And, for better or worse, Kelly hasn't won like Meyer. So we don't quite have the siren's call that a Michigan, Ohio State, Florida, and Bama have. A good example of the veracity of my claim is SC; even with last year's dumpster fire and Numbnuts Kiffin, they are still bringing in some top talent like it is automatic.
With there past success it will take a few more years of bull shiit to cut off that flow. Heck fire, after getting screwed, blued, and tattooed, Kyle Fitts still wanted to go there until the last minute! How many of us shook our heads at anybody that wanted to go to SC in this last class? And how many of us see how full things seem to be getting at ND? This revolution in the program is going to have some growing pains, and I believe we will see them in recruiting. The good news is we have one of the best player developers in the country!
