IMO, a guy who can be your best player on either side of the ball is a 'must get'.

See I consider that more of a want. Throwing around label's like 'must get' imply their will be negative repercussions for not getting that singular individual. I simply don't see that as the case for a lot of people initially labeled as 'must get's by some posters here. I think the staff has done a great job moving on from such ideology which unfortunately permeated under Weis.

Jaylon is different IMO because he his a generational talent in our backyard who is the type of kid that ND wants (see RKG) and appreciates ND for everything it is. I don't like labeling anyone a must get, but if there ever was one, Jaylon would be it.

I completely understand what you mean now, thanks for the explanation. I agree with you, one player doesn't make or break a recruiting class or a team.

All I was saying was that this is probably the #1 player in the country and I would love for Brian Kelly to give it his best and see what happens!

Definitely agree with you on this. Jabril is my #1 want for the '14 class, and I really hope we can get him on campus this spring/summer. Who knows, maybe not getting AQM could be a blessing in disguise.

Well from everything I read he is one. I mean look at his top 5 he only one school in it that doesn't give you a pretty good degree.

That's true. Wouldn't label him a "must get" but the number 1 want. I feel like Diaco should be able to go into NJ and get this kinds of kids.

This x1000. It's not like I would hate to have AQM but I think it helped get EV to ND and it will avoid the PC/DB beef.

Sounds like we will striking out in this department.

Sounds like its March 18th 2013 and signing day 2014 is 11 months away.

Haven't we all learned anything from the past few classes and how BK's staff closes?

In the immortal words of John Rambo, "NOTHING IS OVER!"

Still though, not good that we are sliding down his list. we closed so great last year partly because of a undefeated regular season, we should have a great year again but I don't know about that great.

i know that our coaches do a great job recruiting, but i feel like that we haven't taken advantage of our momentum the way we should after such a great year.

I admit that I haven't been able to read this board and keep up on recruiting as closely so far this cycle, but I'm sensing a lot of negative vibes here with respect to how we've started. I guess I should be used to fans looking for any reason to show off their neuroses, but given that it is March, the staff has continuously demonstrated their competence and the class is nearly about a quarter full with 11 months to go, I guess I thought maybe we (meaning us on this board) would be doing a little better.

Let the spring recruiting period come and go and then let let's see where we're at. I don't think there is much of a reason to panic at this point.

To be fair, I think some of the "negativity" is simply a recruiting hangover after the '13 class. That class was epic, from the rock-solid studs that were committed solidly so early to the epic close with Eddie V., it's going to be hard to get hyped for a class in the same way (at least for me, personally).

I think the negativity stems from the belief that the coaching staff isn't staying on top of the biggest recruiting battles (ex. Peppers). I did read on II that they're probably scouting QB prospects, which can be part of it. They've also got to continue to scout and rate the rest of the players on their board - decide if guys like Reilly Gibbons will get an offer. But seriously, Peppers should be getting mail every day. He should be getting email, phone calls, instant messages, texts, etc. That's what Bama is doing. It's what Michigan is doing. It's what USC is doing. Anytime you rest on your laurels in recruiting, is ground you're losing to other schools for your top guys. I'm not in panic mode, but I'm definitely in 'really guys?' mode....

Right, I'm sure the staff has forgot all about recruiting. It is a good thing we are here to remember it! Maybe one of us should remind them??

Nobody has said they aren't recruiting. But it's evident from interviews with a lot of top guys recently that ND isn't maintaining consistent contact - at least as much as numerous other top schools.

I know ppl wont want to hear this but Peppers isn't a need for this class, he is a luxury. There are plenty of elite guys at positions of need that I would be 10x more dissapointed if we missed on them than Peppers

The staff can't be in constant contact, recruiting every prospect the hardest of all the schools.
