Really excited to see Elmer at ND (only ND recruit ive ever seen play in HS). I think hes going to be a beast and a future captain. Reminds me a lot of Zach Martin in many ways.

reminds me of Jahn Hanna (even looks like him)

yes i am that old...

Wow....you are old. I've been thinking Elmer reminds me a lot of Jumbo Elliot.

I might be crazy, but I think Steve will make the two deeps after summer practice. He is physically ready, and I think he is a very smart kid who will pick up the offense very quickly. Some RT experience in 2013 with a future move to LT in 2014.

Plus, I think cross training our tackles on the left and the right will be helpful should MZ see significant snaps (in 2014 and there after, hopefully).

I've said it before and I'll say it again. The 2013 class began with Steve Elmer. He was our first commit and never waivered. He helped to recruit and hold together the rest of the class, especially the other four offensive line studs.

His name will be one we talk about in both the near and distant future. Ten, twenty years from now Notre Dame fans will be calling new offensive line recruits "the next Steve Elmer".

A) NDBoiler and Dublin, good pickup on the left-handed QB issue.

B) Depending on how you look at things, Elmer could start out in the two deep. We are scary thin on the o-line. That is why I move Lombard to guard now, and Stanley to tackle with Elmer backing him up.

That puts Elmer in at left tack and keeps Stanley at right when Malik takes over from Everett. Because I believe Stanley got a red-shirt, and this year would count as a medical also, if need be.

Some would argue that Hanna was the best OL ever. If Elmer plays like Hanna, too, we'll all be very happy.

Elmer's dad just posted on BGI in a thread about Tommy Rees:

"Said it before and I will say it again - TR is my second favorite player!"

ha

EDIT: this should totally have gone in Tommy's thread ... my bad

..... but since Elmer's thread has been bumped, might as well say this: in a season of relative disappointment so far, Big Steve is none of that. Elmer is showing us the arising of another Notre Dame All-American.

We DO have a number of elite players on this team, and the big young'un is one of them. Sometimes one can get some satisfaction out of a punk offensive series just by watching a great old-timer like ZMart, or a coming-to-be great rookie like Steve, even when what else is happening is not too stellar.

It is the Steve Elmers of our team who give me hope for a good team next year and maybe a great one in 2015.

Also, was there any reason given as to why Hanratty replaced Elmer in the Pitt game? Was Elmer hurt, or ineffective against Pitt's "stud" DT?

I thought Kelly said in his presser the Elmer was being a bit too aggressive? That comment through me when I read it and I meant to ask about it but got busy.

What does that mean?

I will look for that quote.......

edit - here it is .....

Yeah, I guess Steve was being too aggressive and getting ahead of the play. I think that was the explanation.

I knew about Corey Robinson, and have said so regularly. But, Steve Elmer, he is turning out to be another "great one!"

He's going to be a stud wherever he ends up on the line. Versatility is important when the team is recruiting so many linemen. Where has he been practicing?
