Maybe he transfers, maybe he doesn't. Either way if he stays for spring ball it's good for all involved. Gives Kelly more time to evaluate him, gives gunner a chance to prove himself more, puts pressure on golson to bring it every day.

Is this the same Sam Young who was a Freshmen All-American at ND only to be drafted in the 6th round and the waived by Cowboys....?

This is what wiki has under professional career:

"He had a disappointing training camp in 2011, and was reportedly beaten often by defenders in practice.[3] He was waived on September 5, 2011.

On September 6, he was claimed off waivers by the Buffalo Bills."

That would be the same guy. As I remember he was a top five recruit coming in. Number one lineman.

Young was 6'8" 310lbs 5 Star Lineman from Saint Thomas Aquinas in FL..dude had everything going for him but things just never clicked i guess. Alot of people blame the coaching and say he never developed in his time at ND..

I blame CW for a lot of that, but that is me. I know he brought out a lot of Quinn and the Shark,..... but a bunch of talent went through there and never panned out. There are several players I thought were sure fire home runs and they fizzled like cheap bottle rocket.

toledo would be sweet...they're coaches are always very welcoming to high school coaches to come watch practice. if that were the case i'd have to check one out.

That is good to hear; I really thought when they got Campbell and were able to get rid of Beckman, that was really good for the program, but this kind of verification is awesome.

Per TV, Gunner told BK he wasn't happy at ND, after some questions Gunner said he wanted to be at a school where a a senior was the starting qb, not sophomore. He then cleaned out his locker.

Kelly also told Rees that he already knew what Rees brought to team, so Gunner was going to get more work in the spring to showcase his talent more. Tommy had no problems with that.

Sapp also mentioned that anything can happen at this point, including a tidbit about Chris Stewart going through a similar scenario, but at this point Gunner isn't expected at spring outside.

? Come on, Gunner. You had to know this was very likely. Why come here in the first place.

So 'he gone'? Or was the cleaning out of the locker prior to his talk with Kelly?

Sorry, left part of it out as I'm doing this from my phone. Kelly replied to the comment about senior/sophomore by telling him there is competition everywhere, and then locker was cleaned out.

He would have battled out Mettzenberger (sp) who left Georgia to play at LSU for the starting role this year. LSU fans hated Mettzenberger all year. I don't know what to think about that part of the statement. Scared of competition it seems to me.

Like I said before this has Mitch Mustain all over it. We may never hear from this kid again after this year.

Man, this really looks bad. So Gunner knew he was going to get every opportunity this spring to show what he can do, to the extent that other QBs were going to get less work, and he still insisted on leaving? He must be really unhappy.

I've always thought that it was unfair to question Gunner's maturity based on his previous flip-flops, but based on this intel, he really doesn't look good. Does the senior/sophomore comment mean that he thinks players should be promoted in lockstep? Seniors should play over underclassmen regardless of any talent/production disparity? I don't know what kind of way that is to run a program, or business or any organization that is going to be successful. If you don't produce, you lose your spot to a younger, hungrier guy who will. Best player plays. That's life. I mean it -- it's not like that principle just applies to sports; that's just life. I've seen it in my professional life as a lawyer and everywhere else. Hopefully Gunner's family will explain that to him this week.

Now, maybe I'm misconstruing and all Gunner meant is that he feels like the job at ND isn't available till Golson leaves and he doesn't want to wait that long. But it really doesn't look good.

I can't think of any plausible interpretation of that comment other than Kiel wants to the job to be handed to him as heir apparent. Definitely doesn't look good.

Yup. Maybe those Les Miles comments are looking more credible than just sour grapes. Definitely sounds like the heir apparent did not get what he wanted.

Only if he has the money. Don't Ivy League schools meet 100% of financial need?

But your point remains. If you can get a great education for free at one school, you may not be interested in paying to go somewhere else, even if it is Harvard.
