WOW 2 minutes of his junior tape was all I needed to see. Love this kid. Not quite Jaylon Smith, but he did remind me of Michael Hutchings from last cycle. Really good coverage linebacker with a lot of quickness. On one play he showed great lateral movement coming off a block and making a tackle. On the very next he faked a blitz and then was in coverage 7 yards beyond the LOS in the blink of an eye ... the QB had no idea where he was and threw the ball right to him. Also looks great getting behind the LOS and getting after the QB. He's all over the field. He has some bulking up to do but DO WANT big-time.

But he runs a 4.7 hand timed 40... that means he totally sucks and will never amount to anything.

Notre Dame hosted one of the top 2014 running backs in the country last weekend in Elijah Hood and the Irish also hosted one of the nation’s top 2014 linebackers recently in Dante Booker Jr.

“He visited on Monday,” St. Vincent-St. Mary (Akron, Ohio) head coach Dan Boarman said of the touted linebacker.

Booker Jr. holds offers from several big-time schools including Notre Dame, Ohio State, Michigan, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Illinois, Maryland and Indiana among others.

“First of all, it’s just his athletic ability,” Boarman said of the attention Booker Jr. is receiving.

“He’s 6-3, 220 pounds and he can run. He moves extremely well, his lateral movement is excellent. He’s got the kind of frame on him, he’s only going to get bigger. You could see him blowing up and getting much bigger.”

St. Vincent-St. Mary is known for its basketball program, which produced LeBron James. Booker Jr. is currently playing for the Irish in the state tournament.

“Dante hasn’t played basketball, but came out this year and he’s starting,” Boarman said.

Notre Dame has been in on Booker Jr. heavy, but that isn’t surprising.

“Everybody in the country has been in on him pretty heavy,” said the coach, who hasn’t spoken with Booker Jr. since his trip to South Bend.

Booker Jr. has also made trips to Ohio State and Michigan while Tennessee, UCLA and Alabama are among several other programs showing serious interest. He’s also a standout away from the field, according to his coach.

“He’s just a great kid,” said Boarman. “He’s a hard-working young man. He’s really quiet. He’s much more mature than his age. He knows what he wants and he’s going to take his time.”

The talented 2014 prospect isn’t going to rush his decision, but could have one relatively soon.

“We’ve talked and I think he’ll probably make a decision by the summer,” his coach said. “He’s playing it right. He’s leaving his options open. He wants to make sure that he makes the correct choice and picks the school that’s best for him and best for the university he goes to.”

A few factors will come into play when he’s deciding what school is best for him.

“The academic environment is going to be very important for him, but I also think he wants to make sure it’s the right fit for the particular skills that he has,” Boarman said. “He understands the recruiting game. He understands everybody is patting him on the back and telling him how great he is, but he also understands that once he makes his decision, it’s a little bit different.

“He does want to make sure it’s the right university for him. Having his parents see him play, that’s going to be important.”

Something must be going on behind the scenes (thats positive) because this is his second visit with really nobody knowing prior to the actual visit.

That would be a nice development, haven't read the whole thread but I am assuming he would be a DOG, huh?

OSU has been viewed as the lone leader for some time but I would think this makes us a definitive second with a chance to make a move. Not sure how many visits to be exact but more than ND. On position, Dog LB seems to make since but I have been wondering if we aren't talking or thinking ILB. Less depth and very similar frame to Grace and the prototypical ILB the staff wants. After hearing what TJ on II had to say about what we look for in ILB, Booker fits that profile pretty well.

That is why I asked, with the development of Council and the arrival of Jaylon, was wondering if the staff might consider a move inside for this young man he has the length and would probably add a measure of speed that Carlo and Dan don't have opposite Grace.

ILB actually seemed like the best fit when I first saw this guy. He may have the skills for DOG, but from a depth perspective, we could use that skill set much more quickly if he were to train at ILB.

Definitely a good sign. He has kept his recruitment very quiet so while everyone assumes he is a huge Buckeye lean, who really knows?

I am starting to think he might be the lone guy out in the Buckeyes LB numbers crunch. Urban already took Kyle Berger and Sam Hubbard (both of which are better HS players than Booker right now) at LB and OSU looks very good for Raekwon McMillan of Georgia.

You think Hubbard is better than Booker?

Hubbard is a star. Booker, a LEO. IMO Booker is better than Hubbard right now, so I disagree with TomHaverford. Booker might end up with his hands on the turf in Urban's defensive system.

Rather large assumption on your part, ant. Given your recent track record I'll take that as a good sign for ND.

Hubbard is not a better HS player, his potential is through the roof though.

Booker is a better LB than both Berger and Hubbard. His dad played in the SEC and he plays at a place where OSU is starting to build a pipeline. I was told earlier in the process that Booker is a OSU guy but his dad wants him to go through the process. He won't let Urban push him to commit earlier than he wants to. He is the better prospect IMO.
